Historic, log cabin that has been lovingly renovated to provide a romantic getaway. This gem has been featured on the local log cabin home tour and photographed by Traverse The Magazine. Perfect for two people but will sleep four. Unique opportunity for horse people to do self care horse boarding across the road at Kestrel Farms and enjoy the miles of well maintained, nature trails at Good Hart Farms.
Paul and Sara Matthews are the owners of this cabin which is adjacent to their 200 acre equestrian facility. We have owned this property for 20 years and enjoy it with our two young children, 3 dogs and numerous horses.
Paul Matthews purchased this cabin in 1993
We are both natives of Northern Michigan and love community of Goodhart.
We chose this property for its size, beauty and the fact that it is surrounded by state land and Conservency.
The location to Northern Michigan was terrific as you are very close to Harbor Springs, Petoskey and Mackinac! The cabin is tastefully decorated, private, well equipped and clean. The stars outside on clear nights are incredible! Hope to be back!
This was our second visit and it was another fantastic stay. The cabin and property are beautiful and very comfortable. We enjoyed the beaches at St Ignatius church and Wilderness State Park. BBQ'ed for dinner. Visited Harbor Springs and the Oden State Fish Hatchery, which was a cool experience for our toddler. We couldn't have asked for a better trip. Thanks for everything!
Visited this cabin for a long weekend in July and enjoyed every minute of it! Paul has thought of everything that you might need during your stay and the cabin is well maintained. We enjoyed cooking and spending time by the fire. The location of the cabin is perfect! Close to so many great northern Michigan destinations, there is something for everyone.
The cabin is comfy and cozy with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Very clean and the bed was very comfortable. We hiked the Good Hart Farms conservancy next door and enjoyed that very much. We probably did about 3 miles of the possible 7.5miles of loop trails. There is a sportsmans club about a half mile east of the cabin where they were practicing with shotguns occasionally. Not sure if that's a seasonal thing or not but it was a little distracting. At night the sky is free of light pollution and loaded with stars!
My husband and I loved arriving and exploring this beautifully appointed original log cabin. Believe me this is not roughing it! Paul has clearly seen to every detail and provided everything you may need for a delightful stay. This area of MI is so peaceful and to have Lake MI and Sturgeon Bay a short drive away is fantastic. Take a walk with your coffee amongst the windflowers in the morning and at night slumber deeply after gazing up at the amazing ceiling in the vaulted bedroom, super comfy bed! Thanks Paul for your hospitality.
We hope to return!
What a wonderful all-around vacation spot. Don't let the "cabin" name fool you into thinking backwoods; this is a perfect blend of quaint/rustic and modern/equipped. All the wood details throughout are beautiful and nothing is missed. The reclaimed wood ceiling in the bedroom was my favorite. The kitchen and bathroom are stocked - towels, soap, TP, paper towel, dishes, cutlery - and so is the firepit area (cut firewood and lighters/matches are graciously provided). You will see the Milky Way on clear nights and hear coyotes in the neighboring field.
Even though we visited in July, nights were chilly and we were thankful for the gas fireplace and the EdenPure heater. The cabin is much larger than the pictures make it look - loft perfect for our two kids. The open porch is the highlight of the place. Make sure you traipse through the wildflowers all around the house.
We walked across the street to Kestrel Farms and were able to visit with the horses and dogs, and we met Paul's wife and daughter, both of whom were kind and welcoming.
Paul is a great resource for dining and things to do around Harbor Springs/Petoskey/Good Hart - a very nice man.
We recommend the Good Hart General Store for potpies and Michigan craft beer. The owner is a hoot! Also just down the road is St. Ignatius Church, surrounded by a Native American cemetery. It's a historical, sacred, interesting place to visit. Take mosquito spray!
Obviously, don't miss dinner and a sunset at Legs Inn in Cross Village.
Beautiful rural setting surrounded by conservancy and state land. Hiking and horse back riding trails galore! Lots of wild life and bird watching opportunities. Several nice beaches within 2.5-15 miles. Mackinaw Island 40 minutes and a ferry ride away.
