The home was very beautiful. It was very clean, spacious and all around a nice home away from home. My family couldn't have asked for a better vacation . Will definitely be staying again!
Trip to the mountains
This ranch house had ample accommodations in an idyllic setting. House itself was quite charming and was easy to imagine the original owner sitting at one of the many picture windows overlooking lakes and pasture. 10 miles north is the Elizabeth furnace state park with hiking trails to accommodate all skill levels along with a mountain stream for summertime wading, picnic tables, bathrooms and a reconstructed log cabin. We made the short trip to Luray caverns in the south then on to the Skyline Drive heading north where we stopped for ice cream in Front Royal and then back south on 678 to Seven Fountains. I have traveled extensively and you would be hard pressed to find any more beautiful scenery than this loop. The children were able to cross the road and call for Happy and Mick, two horses who will come running (with billy goats in tow) for a pet and a handful of clover. The paddle boat was a nice extra and kept the children (and adults) entertained for hours. There were about 40 geese who would visit the lake and then the pasture in the morning and evening. We ate breakfast and supper on the ample back porch (comfortably seats 8). My only disappointment is that we will not be able to return this fall. Nestled between two mountain ranges fall colors would be spectacular.
So glad that you enjoyed your stay. We hope you and your wonderful family come again soon!
Relaxing stay. Beautiful Surroundings. Owner was very helpful.
Nice country home.
I would recommend this place. We had a great and hope to come back again. We enjoyed hours of sitting on the deck at night and playing cards. A great time had by all.
This property has a beautiful view and is big enough for a family of 10. It is within 30 minutes to Luray Caverns and a good base of operations.
It is NOT close to any restaurants or grocery stores. There is a convenience store nearby for ice and beer and an emergency but that's it. So plan accordingly.
There are a gazillion flies - which is a farm thing - and for us, everything out of the cabinet or pantry had to be washed. There is no logic to where things are stored in the kitchen or pantry so look everywhere. The kitchen is well equipped but you have to find it!
There was plenty of toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, dishwasher soap, and linens but bring extra paper towels, laundry detergent and kitchen garbage bags.
The lake, pedal boat, and animals were a perfect afternoon lifesaver. It was hot and post-naptime and a great way to spend an hour or so. The firepit is great for marshmallow roasting but sticks and wood is on you!
Luray caverns was worth the trip! Be sure to include that in your plans. Dinosaurland was hokey but fun for the kids.
Overall, we had a great family weekend. David was easy to work with and the house was a great size for our extended family.
The property was really beautiful and the owners were very pleasant to deal with and very responsive to questions.
