Tired of the fast pace and constant distractions of your everyday life? Would you like to leave your worldly cares behind? Come spend some time on beautiful Lake Summit and let yourself slow down to nature’s own speed.
Your first impression will be of the charming yellow cottage on the hill. The exquisite landscaping of butterfly bushes and hydrangeas (just professionally designed and installed) compliment the brand new stone pathways leading toward the home.
This home features Heart Pine flooring throughout and is a cozy mix of antiques and modern day furnishings. The kitchen has been recently remodeled with luxurious quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances and custom cabinetry. Both full bathrooms have also received new quartz countertops and custom cabinetry.
The main house can accommodate 6-8 people with sleeping for 2 more in the bunk beds at the boathouse. The front bedroom has 2 double beds, a chest of drawers and a bedside table. The middle room features an antique double bed, a twin bed, 2 chests of drawers and 2 bedside tables. The master bedroom has a large king bed with 2 chests of drawers and a bedside table.
Enjoy either the attic fan or the central air conditioning while you are in residence at the main house.
Plan on spending a bit of time unwinding on the wraparound porch of this cottage surrounded by the natural beauty of the North Carolina mountains. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the mornings while sitting on the porch looking over the lake as the morning fog rolls over the water.
Across the road is the fabulous waterfront area anchored by an extra large double boathouse. The boathouse is family fun central! The upstairs features a great room with a large sitting area for television viewing, glass top table with seating for 6, full kitchen with large counter top, refrigerator, ice-maker, stove, microwave, dishwasher and separate bedroom and half bath. The Pawley's Island hammock is also a must for an afternoon nap. Outside is a great deck where many kids and some brave adults jump off! It is also a great place to read.
Lakeside down below features an oversized Ipe deck with table & chairs plus chaise loungers for bathing in the sun. A boat slip is available for the renter's watercraft.
Per Google Maps, we are a twenty-seven minute drive from the Tryon International Equestrian Center. Being at a higher elevation and right on the water, the temperature at Lake Summit is ten degrees cooler than in Tryon, usually enhanced even further by a slight breeze coming off of the water.
This property was originally purchased a century ago by our Great-Grandfather, Adolph Vermont, who was a beloved professor at Converse College. At the time of the purchase, there were 2 houses and 2 lots. The cottages were used to house the workers who built the dam.
This home and the surrounding property are still in our family. My brother and I (who are now the fourth generation to trustee the home for the next generation) grew up swimming and skiing on the lake and now our children adore their summer time on the lake. As the children are growing up, we are no longer able to spend the entire summer on the lake so have begun to share this special property with others.
Temple Starr purchased this cottage in 1916
This special property was one of the original homes built on highly desirable Lake Summit. Homes here are passed down from generation to generation. It is a gentle, clean, refreshing mountain lake, built by Duke Power Company a century ago to power area textile mills. It is the home of Camps Mondamin, Green Cove and Greystone.
The home is a completely remodeled century-old house which provides the right mix between charming old and updated new.
Our family of 5 enjoys watersports, running, hiking, and cool mountain temperatures so we loved our week at Lake Summit! We brought our boat and 2 kayaks and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful clear mountain lake. The cooler temperatures were a welcome relief from the midlands of South Carolina during this time of year. The house is very nicely updated and very quaint and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and the grill works well. The gravel road around the lake is perfect for walking, running, or cycling. We spent some time hiking at Caesar's Head State Park which is only a short drive from Lake Summit. The views from the front porch of the house and the boathouse are beautiful and serene. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time at Lake Summit and we hope to return next year!
Our family has rented this wonderful house at Lake Summit for years! We have had the best family vacation memories here. The boat house is incredible, the location is perfect for a trip into Saluda or Hendersonville.
The owner could not be nicer and a pleasure to rent from.
This has been a Great Lake House for my family for four generations. We spend most of our days in the boathouse, in the lake, reading, skiing, doing boating activities and having fun. Even when it rains we have the huge tv to watch movies and games to play. There is lots to do in the nearby towns of Saluda, Flat Rock and Hendersonville. You have to eat lunch at the old soda shop in Saluda....best grilled pimento cheese ever! And husbands love to gather there for breakfast. The Curb Market in Hendersonville is a treasure trove of homemade goodies (especially Marilyn Horne's cakes...Yum!) and shopping on Main Street is great fun. Be sure to go to McAbee's produce off Upward Road for peaches and summer tomatoes! Do not miss The Wrinkled Egg (store and gift shop) or a play at The Flat Rock Playhouse, or the Flat Rock Bakery in Flat Rock. We sleep 6 adults easily in the big house, but if young children, you could sleep 7 children and 2 adults easily. The kitchen is modern and easy to get around in while visiting with others sitting at the bar or dining room table. There is a grill, which we use often, and a crock pot to fix it and forget it until supper time! There is a kayak available for your own use, but you will need to bring your own boat for skiing or taking a cocktail cruise around the lake (a favorite tradition for years!). Fishing off the dock is also a favorite past time of my husband's and our grandson. You also can go white water rafting or zip lining nearby. The neighbors are very friendly or you can tuck in and be by yourselves. Whatever you decide, you will make great memories!
Entertainment at this house is the waterfront. The Lake Summit Property Owner's Association allows renters to obtain a boating permit and to use the boat landing to launch boats. We have one space in our boathouse for a renter's regular size ski boat. We do provide a kayak and paddles. You can rent paddleboards and other water toys nearby. On the upper enclosed level, there is a full kitchen with a large counter area , cabinets, refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, ice-maker and sink. There is also a hammock, bedroom and half bath so you can enjoy your whole day lakeside! There are many bikers and walkers who enjoy the 14 mile long lake road. You may want to bring your own bikes.
