Volcano house description

Lava Tube Hale has been a magical retreat for adventurers seeking to experience and explore the Volcano area

After hiking one of the 150 trails the park has to offer nothing hits the spot like a soak in the hot tub/whirlpool under the covered lanai. Situated in the rain forest the lanai and house are very private with no neighbor in sight. Guests have the option of showering inside or in the outside shower under the stars.

Lave Tube Hale (house) is well appointed with full kitchen for cooking or reheating meals from one of the many wonderful restaurants in Volcano Village just minutes away. We provide you with bottled water, coffee, teas and cocoa. When you arrive there will be an island welcome basket with bananas, papayas and a pineapple. To make is easy to slice your Pineapple we even have a Pineapple Slicer

Kick back, read or lounge by the fireplace. All are encouraged in the living room as well as playing board games with family and friends. Music/CDS and books are here to enjoy. Complementary WIFI is available for those who wish to keep up with social networking. A good old fashion telephone also is available for local calls.

The guest room has two twin beds, TV with DVD player and movies. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a thick memory foam pad to ensure the most restful sleep, plenty of comfortable bedding and linens throughout.

Kids and adults enjoy exploring the backyard rainforest complete with its very own lava tube!

Why Bernadette Boteilho chose Volcano

Michael and Kerry fell in love with the magic of Volcano and the rainforest so much that they bought this hale. They use it as a place to enjoy nature with family and friends. This special get-away spot is like nowhere else on earth and has been a retreat for them, as well as for folks from all around the world. We hope you´ll find some time to experience this incredible place in Volcano, home of Pele, and share some highlights about your stay at Lava Tube Hale with us. Aloha pumehana!

Guestbook comments from the manager

This enchanted cottage helped us enjoy a perfect family holiday and volcano experience. Our grandchildren (age 8 & 10) loved the jungle and the lava tube—and everything else about our visit.

Fantastic little retreat so close to the volcano

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing four nights at this beautiful little house. It was everything we had hoped it would be and more. So lovely coming back to the hot tub after days of hiking, it was so peaceful.

Beautiful, comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

My fiancee and I stay here for three nights in October 2016 and had a wonderful stay. The home is easy to find and was conveniently located near Volcano National Park (~5-10 minute drive). We made most of our meals while there, and the kitchen was well stocked and easy to work in. Our favorite part was sitting outside on the covered deck to eat meals or read while it was raining. Between the beautiful location, the hot tub, and the fireplace, the house was exactly what we needed for a few days to unwind. Thank you again for the wonderful, welcoming stay - I would absolutely recommend/try to stay here again the next time we're on the Big Island!

A peaceful retreat minutes away from Volcano National Park

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the Lava Tube Hale. The area is very quiet and secluded. As we sat in the hot tub, we got to watch pheasants stroll by looking for food. The house is very comfortable and cozy. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need to make a meal. Bernadette is a great host. Very communicative and she sent us information that helped us plan our trip.

If you want to explore the Volcano National Park, I highly recommend staying here. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Only wish we stayed longer!

  • 5 of 5

The only negative I can say about Lava Tube Hale is in the title up above. While on the big island we only stayed a couple of days in Volcano and a couple of days on the west side.

Bernadette has set the standard here for hospitality. Once we booked Lava Tube Hale we were shortly after mailed a welcoming packet containing helpful brochures, etc of the area and the island to help us plan.

The directions to the secluded and quiet get away were very detailed and we knew we had picked a gem once we entered. Upon your arrival there is a tray of fresh fruit, teas, sweet bread even macadamia nut pancake mix. Yum! The kitchen was well equipped and so was the rest of the house. There were "island books" to read to my youngest at night and games to play if it gets rainy in the evening. There were fresh tropical flowers and our pillows had Hershey kisses with a small dolly with a Hawaiian saying on them.

The jacuzzi was great after a day of hiking. Just slip on the robes and head out under the ambient lighting and enjoy yourself. If the sky is clear you are in for a galactic treat.

You are only a couple of miles from the volcano which is something definite to see at night. I overheard other people that took a tour from Kona and were headed back that night. That's a 100 miles one way and I knew we did the right thing to stay here. In the daytime you can see the volcano from a different perspective, walk by the steam vents and don't skip the lava tube in the National park which you can walk easily through. We lucked out as there was a free cultural festival and my kids learned how to make poi and weave their own bracelets.

There are a few restaurants right off the main road in volcano village which are easy to access.

We noticed that several people that signed the guest book have stayed here before. This will definitely be our first choice when we return.

This cute little house has all you need! Perfect for our family of four. Super close to Volcanoes National Park for hiking and exploring. The hot tub was great at the end of the day! Also, the house was super clean and they left a ton of fresh fruit and snacks. Highly recommend!!

Lovely property close to the Volcano

  • 5 of 5

If you like secluded homes surrounded by lush trees and foliage where you feel you're alone in the wilderness, this is the place for you. Unfortunately, my mom and I were too scared at night to sleep! It may have to do with the fact that we arrived at night and probably would not be able to find it were it not for GPS since it was pitch black. In the morning, we were able to see how pretty the area is. The house is very quaint and fully equipped with a beautiful basket of fresh fruits, teas, bread and pancake mix (yumm!). the hot tub is a nice touch. Plenty of linens and towels, supplies, etc... It is also within 5 minutes of VNP, so very convenient. Highly recommended. it will easily sleep 4 comfortably as there's a king side bed and two twins.
