Volcano house description

Lava Tube Hale has been a magical retreat for adventurers seeking to experience and explore the Volcano area http://www.nps.gov/havo/index.htm

After hiking one of the 150 trails the park has to offer nothing hits the spot like a soak in the hot tub/whirlpool under the covered lanai. Situated in the rain forest the lanai and house are very private with no neighbor in sight. Guests have the option of showering inside or in the outside shower under the stars.

Lave Tube Hale (house) is well appointed with full kitchen for cooking or reheating meals from one of the many wonderful restaurants in Volcano Village just minutes away. We provide you with bottled water, coffee, teas and cocoa. When you arrive there will be an island welcome basket with bananas, papayas and a pineapple. To make is easy to slice your Pineapple we even have a Pineapple Slicer

Kick back, read or lounge by the fireplace. All are encouraged in the living room as well as playing board games with family and friends. Music/CDS and books are here to enjoy. Complementary WIFI is available for those who wish to keep up with social networking. A good old fashion telephone also is available for local calls.

The guest room has two twin beds, TV with DVD player and movies. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a thick memory foam pad to ensure the most restful sleep, plenty of comfortable bedding and linens throughout.

Kids and adults enjoy exploring the backyard rainforest complete with its very own lava tube!

Why Bernadette Boteilho chose Volcano

Michael and Kerry fell in love with the magic of Volcano and the rainforest so much that they bought this hale. They use it as a place to enjoy nature with family and friends. This special get-away spot is like nowhere else on earth and has been a retreat for them, as well as for folks from all around the world. We hope you´ll find some time to experience this incredible place in Volcano, home of Pele, and share some highlights about your stay at Lava Tube Hale with us. Aloha pumehana!

Guestbook comments from the manager

This enchanted cottage helped us enjoy a perfect family holiday and volcano experience. Our grandchildren (age 8 & 10) loved the jungle and the lava tube—and everything else about our visit.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This cute little house has all you need! Perfect for our family of four. Super close to Volcanoes National Park for hiking and exploring. The hot tub was great at the end of the day! Also, the house was super clean and they left a ton of fresh fruit and snacks. Highly recommend!!

Lovely property close to the Volcano

  • 5 of 5

If you like secluded homes surrounded by lush trees and foliage where you feel you're alone in the wilderness, this is the place for you. Unfortunately, my mom and I were too scared at night to sleep! It may have to do with the fact that we arrived at night and probably would not be able to find it were it not for GPS since it was pitch black. In the morning, we were able to see how pretty the area is. The house is very quaint and fully equipped with a beautiful basket of fresh fruits, teas, bread and pancake mix (yumm!). the hot tub is a nice touch. Plenty of linens and towels, supplies, etc... It is also within 5 minutes of VNP, so very convenient. Highly recommended. it will easily sleep 4 comfortably as there's a king side bed and two twins.

The Perfect Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Volcano getaway. The house was perfect & the hot tube made it even better. The after dark hike to see the glow at Kilauea was wonderful, then rested in the perfect bed. The daytime hikes near the house were also amazing. We will be back. Cheers

Beautiful home in the rainforest

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the Lava Tube Hale after spending a couple of days in Honolulu, and it was such a lovely place to relax, refresh and unwind. The area was quiet, the home was secluded, and the layout was perfect for our family (2 adults and an 8 year old). Our son loved playing outside, and we all enjoyed the hot tub after spending the day hiking various trails at Volcano National Park. The home was sparkling clean, and was well stocked with any amenities your might require. The fruit and bread provided was enough for breakfast for a couple of days, and the tea, coffee and hot chocolate was a thoughtful touch. We picked up our groceries at the Prince Kuhio shopping centre just outside Hilo airport, and we were glad we did as Volcano Village did not appear to have many amenities. We cannot think of anything that was missing that would improve this cozy vacation rental, and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the cooler, rainier side of the island close to VNP.

Volcano retreat

  • 5 of 5

A quiet, authentic Big Island experience. Lava Tube Hale was a perfect base of operations to explore Kileaua and surroundings. Not only did it have its own lava tube, it also had a fireplace and hot tub because at 3,500 feet it gets kind of cool in the evenings. There was a welcome basket of pineapple, papaya, bananas - so thoughtful. We shopped at the Hilo KTA and Safeway, and brought most everything with us because the amenities in Volcano are limited. The kitchen performed well, the hot water was practically instant and there was an ample supply of pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. The house is very clean. We appreciated the provision of bottled water for drinking. Once the hot tub got hot, it was just heaven to sit in it and listen to the birds and sounds of the rainforest. From the hot tub there is rainforest on three sides, you cannot see any neighbors or hear cars or other signs of civilization. We were not really seeking total privacy, but we got it (except for the outside shower visible from the road). In the morning birds come through the yard, the sun shines on the ferns, sit outside with your coffee and experience the non-tourist Hawaii.

Magical property!

  • 4 of 5

Wow, what a spot! We loved the lush green of the surrounding rainforest, the privacy it gave (especially for the outdoor shower and hot tub!) and all of the nice little touches inside. We are a family of four and would stay at the Lava Tube Hale again in a heartbeat! Another benefit is that it is less than 10 minutes to Halemaumau crater so you can zip over each night you are there to see the lava glow. We even saw the lava lake splattering above the rim one night! Unforgettable! Thanks Bernie!
