About Anita Oerlemans
I was born in Dongen, in the Netherlands. My husband lived in Casablanca, Maroc, until he was 24 years old. We met at a festival in ‘s Hertogenbosch, were he visited his sister. Half a year later, we married and went to live in Veghel. That was in June 1993. Our son was born five years later.
Anita Oerlemans purchased this House in 2010
Why Anita Oerlemans chose Urçay
It always was our dream to own a house in France, but it seemed to stay a dream forever, as we didn't have the money to buy one. During the years of our marriage, we did build up some savings for the down payment of the mortgage on our Dutch home. But only after we inherited a small sum from my mother, the dream became more realistic. On our holidays, we visited many properties in various parts of France, but every time there was 'a little something about it:'. Until we found the Urçay villa. This was love at first sight and we said to eachother: “It's now or never, the Dutch mortgage can wait”. But the real-estate broker told us that the house was promised to another family. We were so sad the whole long way home! A week later she called us to let us know that they didn’t want to purchase it after all. You can imagine our happiness! With an additional loan, we managed to meet all costs and a month later, we went to France again to sign the property papers. Since then, we made many improvements to satisfy our guests. And we will continue to do so, as things can always be made even better!
What makes this House unique
L'Ocee is ideal for those who value peace, calm, privacy and nature. The friendly green hills of the centre of France and the Tronçais forest with its many lakes and art put a spell on us. We love to scroll the countryside and to visit the many picturesque castles and villages. Or to follow the river Cher or the Berry canal, by foot, bicycle, canoe or electric boat. Back home at L'Ocee, sitting on the terrace, viewing the birds and the butterflies crossing the green flowery field, feels priceless. After a swim in the private pool and a home cooked meal, we spend the evening playing pool, darts, air hockey or table tennis in the basement. The night comes as dark as you´ve never experienced it, with myriads of stars. The silence makes you sleep sound and deep....

Lovely Rural retreat with all amenities
This was our first visit to this part of France. The property is ideally situated for visiting Berry, the Auvergne, Burgundy as well as the local cities of Bourges, Nevers, Moulins and Clermont.
L'Ocee was exactly as described with so many amenities, to suit both couples and families alike. The house is situated in a very private situation with large grounds surrounded by fields and only a stones throw from the Troncais forest. The pool was an excellent attraction in the unusually good September weather however the range of games and facilities in the lower level are enough to keep any family occupied.
The property throughout was well maintained clean and comfortable, fully equipped and offered us both internet access and satellite TV.
Anita was very welcoming and helpful when we arrived, providing everything we would need to know about the property and let us know about the many attractions in the area, where we could go and the best way of getting there.
We liked Bourges, its wonderful Cathedral and welcoming city, The Puy de dome provided stunning views of the Auverge and surrounding countryside. Nevers was an interesting city and the nearby Troncais provided plenty of opportunity for quite walks alongside the many lakes and well situated picnic areas. Drevant has some fantastic roman remains but access was not available when we visited and the fencing around the sites is unattractive and prevented us from taking photos. There are many chateau and gardens to be visited and we would love to return again in the future.
A really lovely holiday and would recommend!

A very relaxing taste of rural France.
We have just returned from a very relaxing two week stay at L'Ocee. We were pleased with the correspondence we received from Anita before our arrival, and when we met her we were given a friendly welcome and tour of the property.
The house, pool and grounds were clean and well equipped. The kitchen in particular had everything you could need, including coffee makers, bread machine, blender and toaster. There were plenty of indoor entertainment options if the weather turned bad (which fortunately only happened once during our stay) including jigsaws, lego, marble runs, table tennis, pool table, air hockey, darts, strong wifi signal and satellite television with all the British freeview channels. But, who would want to stay indoors when you have such a large, spacious garden to explore? Our 3 boys (7, 9 and 11) were never bored, freely running around the grounds, choosing between the huge trampoline, swing, pétanque and the swimming pool. The pool was definitely the highlight, very clean, with an easy to operate cover. We were in it every day, often up until 7pm at night.
The location is a bit off the tourist track with very limited English spoken in the area. Everything stops between 12 and 2pm, except for the cafés and restaurants which we were very impressed with. St Amand Mont-Rond is a 15 minute drive and has all the large supermarkets, but don't forget to wonder around the smaller streets and market place to get a real taste of the local produce.
Urcay is very quiet. There are two restaurants, we had a superb meal in L'Étoile d'Urçay, with very traditional, local cuisine, though simplified for the children's taste. We couldn't find any local shops open, even for bread, though this could be because quite a few shop keepers simply shut for their two week holiday whilst we were there?
We visited a few sites nearby, including the impressive Roman amphitheater; hired an electric boat on the Berry Canal; walked around the medieval town of Montlucon; and drove the 1.5hrs to see the volcanos - well worth the trip! On the whole though we happily stayed around L'Ocee. If you are after a taste of the more rural France, and simply want relaxing, away from it all, family time, then I really recommend L'Ocee.
Great place to relax and really chill.
ideal holiday let for the whole family. Plenty of room well equipt and clean, lots of indoor entertainment for the children and adults.
If you enjoy walking its wonderful lots of lovely walks and all well marked.

Home from home
Last year our family groupo of six people, ranging over three generations, decided to book a break at L'Ocee as the entire group was in need of a relaxing, away from it all holiday. We were certainly not disappointed, the area was off the beaten track in rural France but not too far from shopping facilities to be able to stock up on supplies. Our day usually consisted of an early rise, sightseeing at one of the quaint villages or towns within an easy drive where we could relax over coffee and then lunch before returning to the cottage in the afternoon to chill out beside the private pool. This would be followed by preparing locally bought food and then the evening would turn into a session of reading with a few glasses of wine, or for the more energetic an evening in the basement using the many indoor activities supplied.
We enjoyed the tranquility of the holiday so much that we have re-booked for this year. The cottage was clean and tidy with more than adequate kitchen facilities, good sleeping accommodation, a really good array of indoor and outdoor activities and most important in our party's case a private pool in which to chill out as and when the heat and the pressure got too much.
All in all a very good value for money holiday and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.
An escape to the country!
We have spent the last two summers here and are to return again in 2011. We have 2 children under 6 and it's the perfect destination for us. The house has just changed hands but communications with the new owners have been superb so far. The house itself is superbly equipped, especially the kitchen. We pretty much ate in every night and it was as easy as cooking at home. The best part for us though is the pool. It is a good size and is very well maintained. The steps into the pool are gradual which are good for our youngest. The cover is easy to remove and to put back. The garden is huge and the new owners have said that there will be a trampoline for the kids too which should be great. They have also put in some games in the basement too which will be good evening entertainment when the kids have gone to bed. The area is amazingly quiet and if you like outdoor activities its ideal. The Troncais forest is on the doorstep and we ran, cycled and walked every day. There are swimming lakes too which are very popular with the locals. If you want a quiet get away from it all type holiday with lots of fresh air then I would thoroughly recommend it. One tip.....insect repellant for the forest!!
We invite you to spend your holiday in this lovely, perfectly equipped holiday home with WIFI. Enjoy its lush garden of more than 4300 m2 with picknick table, 18 m2 terrace, private swimming pool, swing, trampoline with safety net and pétanque area.
L’Ocee is situated just around the corner of the biggest European oak tree forest with several lakes, which is excellent for bicycle riding and long walks. Discover its wildlife and its art.
Within an hour by car you find several castles, lakes, spa towns, shopping centres, golf courses, racing circuits, vineyards, restaurants and picturesque towns and villages, for example: Bourges with it's impressive cathedral, Montlucon with it's medieval centre and castle, the castle ruin of Hérisson and the castle gardens of Aprémont-sur-Allier.
In St. Amand-Montront you find The Black Diamond (Gold Museum), the St. Vic Museum, the Balnéor leisure pool and a fortress / ruin.
You can also pay a visit to Drevant with it’s karting track, Gallo-Roman ruins and the romantic Berry canal, Athanor (a big recreation pavilion for children) in Montluçon or Le Pal (an amusement park/zoo), etcetera.
If you like modern art, pay a visit to the donjon of Jouy, the Noirlac abbey or the Grange-verrières in St. Hilaire-Lignières, an exposition of a glass artist.
When you take the highway for one hour and a half, you'll be in the impressive and entirely different landscape of the dead volcanoes of Auvergne. Enjoy the panorama on top of the famous Puy de Dome, which you can climb yourself or by train, or visit the infotainment park Vulcania.
Other Activities: canoeing, horsebackriding, fishing, swimming, cycling, walking, electric boats on the Berry canal.
