This peaceful gated community is on the Hapuna/Mauna Kea Resort property just above the hotels. Enjoy beautiful ocean views and sunsets from most of the unit. This unit offers the most privacy of any ground floor unit. It is perched above and to the side of the pool to enjoy beautiful views from a location with little to no foot traffic other than your own out to the wrap around lanai and grounds in front of you.
Available with your reservation is an extension of our membership in the popular Club at Mauna Kea Resort, which allows you to enjoy the amenities of both luxury Hotels located here – Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Hapuna Beach Hotel. You may choose this for a fee which is paid directly to the hotel with your guest registration that will be sent to you separately (see below) or you may enjoy the world famous Mauna Kea Beach and Hapuna Beach from the public parking access at no cost to you. Hapuna Beach has unlimited public access at the South end of the beach and Mauna Kea allows 40 cars per day at the public access parking lot at the South end of the beach. We provide you in our unit with beach chairs, beach towels, boogie boards, cooler, and plenty of beach toys for the little ones. A cabinet full of books and cookbooks is provided along with puzzles.
With purchase of the amenity package you have unrestricted access to both the Mauna Kea Beach & the Hapuna Beach Hotel facilities with keycard parking at the private access. Please note that Guest Registration Fees changed for all guests renting private homes and condos for reservations made after 8/1/15.
The Mauna Kea/Hapuna amenity package/Guest Registration Fee schedule has been revised per the chart below. Please note that this is a daily fee per home/condo up to 20 days and a flat per stay fee for designated periods thereafter. Note all fees are plus tax.

This condo sleeps 4. Master Suite has a king bed, TV, large tub, walk in shower and closet. Enjoy beautiful views to the ocean or walk out to the lanai. Guest suite has king or 2 twin beds made to your preference and private bath.
High speed cable with wireless is included along with 2 LED TVs (Great Room & Master Bedroom). A telephone is provided for local calls and free long distance to mainland USA and Canada!
Your kitchen is well appointed and fully furnished including many spices and items to cook wonderful meals. “Da Fish House” is only 5 minutes away where you can purchase that day’s catch and grill up on the grill on your own lanai. Plenty of fresh groceries are obtained at the nearby Foodland or enjoy the numerous fine restaurants on the hotel properties or nearby.
Washer/Dryer along with all products you may need are provided. It is fully air-conditioned and has ceiling fans in the great room and both bedrooms.
Besides the Club at Mauna Kea, Kumulani has its own private pool and hot tub.
This condo is located 30 minutes from Kona International Airport (KOA) with many upscale restaurants and shops either on the resort grounds or within a short drive.

Susan & Tony purchased this condo in September 2013. After many visits to all the islands we knew the Big Island was the place for us and we visit often. Activities abound and the diversity of the Island offers endless opportunities for exploration. Tennis is our game and there is nowhere more beautiful to play than the courts at Mauna Kea. We also love to snorkel and have found the beaches on the north end of the Big Island to be the most beautiful in all of Hawaii with the best coral and variety of fish. We continue to find secret coves all over the North Kohala coast for easy snorkel access. We hope others will experience what we have found: a place to restore your spirits, ease your mind and delight your heart.

We have stayed at the condos at Kumulani many times and at the Hapuna Beach Hotel - they never disappoint! No matter where we travel, we always know our favorite place is the Beach at Mauna Kea.
We had an amazing time in Kumalani I-2 and Kona Island. The condo was a delight to come back to after a day exploring the island or enjoying the beach! It is beautifully appointed and in a peaceful location with a stunning vista.
Susan was incredibly helpful, informative and goes above and beyond what you would normally expect as an owner and manager of a rental property. We are truly grateful for her assistance throughout our stay.
We would highly recommend this condo and hope to return one day.
This was the first time I rented a VRBO, and I am glad I pulled the trigger on this one. I was pleasantly surprised from beginning to end with this whole rental. Susan was informative, attentive and available from the first communication until the time we left the condo - no surprises. She sent us very detailed information about everything – from things to do – to details about arriving and staying at the condo. The condo itself was just as described. It was very nice and clean, well equipped with everything we needed including beach towels, kitchen spices, beach chairs and toys, and everything we needed to make our stay comfortable (internet, cable, washer and dryer). We were gone almost every day to various beaches and parks (hiking). We did not take advantage of the amenities package for this reason. The area beaches were so nice – highly recommend Hapuna Beach, 69 Beach, and the beach at Kekaha Kai State Park (very rough road to access this beach). There are Wal-Marts in Kona and Hilo which were nice to use to stock up on grocery items (there are Foodlands closer).
If we ever make it to the Big Island again, would definitely stay here! Can't say enough nice things about this rental!
The Kohala Coast, and specifically the Mauna Kea resort, is our favorite Hawaii island destination. We discovered this group of condo within the resort several years ago and this is our 4 trip there. This is the first time staying in this unit. The owner was super attentive and always quickly available. The resort privileges are available for an extra fee, but were well worth it as each day was prettier than the last and the beach at the Mauna Kea is by for the most beautiful you will find. The condo is nicely furnished, the Wi-Fi worked very well, and there were lots of nice extras to make the stay more enjoyable. Due to the owner's recommendations we tried two new recommendations and both were excellent (Red Water Café in Waimea and Kohola Burger & Taco in the Kawaihae harbor area.) We will definitely visit again.
This was our first time using VRBO for a vacation. We were not disappointed whatsoever. The condo is in an amazing location! The owner of the condo was very helpful and provided everything we needed to know about the ins and outs of the Island. Her recommendations were on point and we enjoyed all the different places she suggested we visit. Do yourself a favor, go see the Akaka Falls…beautiful! The condo itself was perfect for our family. You truly feel "at home" there. All bases are covered: boogie boards, beach towels, hair dryers, you name it, it's there. Having access to the Hapuna Prince and Mauna Kea resorts was ideal! Totally worth the $ to have access to both their beaches and pools. All in all, we had a wonderful vacation and were sad to leave. We will definitely return to the Big Island and we will definitely book this condo again. Happy travels to you and yours! :)
Would definitely recommend this condo for someone looking for a nice quiet vacation. And with its proximity to the best beaches on the Big Island, Hapuna and Mauna Kea, you can't go wrong. As serious swimmers, the pool at Kumulani was a plus. We had the pool to ourselves every morning for two weeks! The condo is clean and spacious, the kitchen well appointed, and the owner quickly responded to any questions we had. We look forward to returning!
Super nice and very clean. Really liked the information on hand so we knew where to get things and what might be interesting. This unit was the most WELL STOCKED place we have ever stayed. There was even high class sunscreen as well as aloe lotion if you fail to use it! Good privacy on the lanai because of the smart configuration in the way these buildings are situated. This is a unit that gets a lot of sun but it was never too hot for even us Alaskans!.. many sliding doors for air flow and even air conditioning which we NEVER had to turn on because of the ceiling fans and sliding doors!
Community use pool is good size for lap swimming and never overcrowded.
Staying here allowed us the opportunity to purchase the amenities package for full use of the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince hotels. This was awesome for many reasons, among them being it is nice to have folks to go to for advisement regarding ocean conditions and what is safe or not safe. Both hotels also have huge pools so always excellent options for different experiences in that avenue.
This location felt very secure; we never worried about vandals or problems and for good reason. In fact we rented bicycles from the shop in the Queens center and seriously never locked them up.
Another thing we really appreciated about this particular unit over one we rented in the same general area last year was that we worked with the actual owner rather than an agency on behalf of the owner. This really made a more positive experience for us.
If you choose to rent this unit check out the large book and puzzle cupboard in the kitchen.. it's well stocked too and we left a really cool jigsaw puzzle that is missing no pieces!!
