About Cheri Benjamin
I live on the island of Antigua in the Eastern Caribbean and have been involved in tourism my entire life. After visiting Bali in 2012, I fell in love with the lush and gorgeous scenery on the Island of the Gods, but even more so with the gracious people and their customs and spiritual traditions. With my first visit to Bali, I felt in my heart that I had 'come home' and had found my place in the world where I could experience peace, tranquility and spirituality.
Cheri Benjamin purchased this Villa in 2013
Why Cheri Benjamin chose Nyuh Kuning
I chose Penestanan because of its tranquility, friendly people and small town atmosphere. My favorite part of going into the busy hustle and bustle of Ubud for shopping and dining is returning to peaceful Penestanan and the quietness of my villa afterwards. My villa is directly adjacent to Star Child Spa, which is a favorite of mine for massages and other spa services. There are many great places to eat within a few minutes' walk of the front door, plus many of these restaurants will also deliver. Yoga and meditation classes at Intuitive Flow yoga studio are only a five minute walk from the villa.
What makes this Villa unique
My dear Balinese friend, Ketut Puja, built Villa Laba Puseh for me in the quiet village of Penestanan on Temple Land. I love Balinese architecture and artistry, and Ketut made sure that it was incorporated into every aspect of this villa. Everywhere you look, you see some building aspect that was designed and built artistically including hand carved wooden window surrounds and kitchen cabinet doors, or intricate, artistic air flows built into the walls. Four different types of beautiful building stones were used in the construction process of my home. Three types of stone are from Bali, while the other was imported from Java. More than 1,000 man hours went into creating the stone-carved details that surround my villa. My favorite feature is more than four feet high and three feet wide. I can just stand and look at the stone work in amazement, marveling at the intricate hand-carved details designed by the skilled artisans who helped build my home. Everywhere you turn in Labah Puseh you see beauty. Another fabulous feature of the villa is the pool, which features a beautiful, hand-carved sandstone surround, water gently cascading down a wall beneath it and water spouting from a replica of a temple fountain head. Ketut, my friend and architect extraordinaire, also manages the villa for me. He is available for any type of day trip you could imagine or can take you on a chartered fishing trip!

Peaceful stay in Ubud
If you are looking for a no hassle stay in Ubud, we highly recommend this property. The property is fairly centrally located and a peaceful retreat - we absolutely loved the natural setting and the flowing water with the pool. You just need to be careful with the doors kept shut to avoid mosquito bites. Also I recommend the host to put a motion sensor light at the main entrance which seems a tad dark in the night. But other than these very small points, the property and the people who maintains the property are simply AWESOME! Will come back again.
Great house. We liked it very much. Thanks for tasty breakfast Made. Juli was like a good friend for us. Nothing about Ketut, we didn't see him. Not good for a manager. If we planed the trips in advance maybe we could see more. But it was OK. Thanks for everything Cheri.
Perfect villa in every way, wonderful staff, convenient location and beautiful, tranquil privacy.
A wonderful experience from beginning to end. Starting with efficient and timely communication with Cheri, very happy we chose your villa. Juli was waiting for us at the airport and transferred us to the villa and drove us to sightsee on several days. Thank you Juli, we had a great time and your knowledge of Bali was one the highlights of our visit. Made came each morning and cooked a delicious breakfast for us, we felt spoiled. Thank you Made and we enjoyed your kind conversation and watching your gentle offerings and blessings for the villa, you set the tone each day for a perfect start. Komang was ready with his cheerful smile to help with any requests, more towels or laundry or cleaning. Thanks, Komang. Cheri, We hope to return someday and highly recommend your beautiful and tranquil villa. Thank you so much.
A Little Slice of Heaven
Action is not the first word that comes to mind if you stay here. This is a lovely, private, and peaceful place with adventure waiting just around the corner if you want it. The manager and his staff ensure a pleasant stay and are available for anything you may desire to do. There are many sites within easy reach that will give you the flavour of the area. Many walking trails and motor bikes/scooters available if you are brave enough and experienced enough to handle the traffic. The pool is lovely, albeit a little cool if you are accustomed to warm water. Beaches are within reach by car/driver and are worth the trip. The Palace/Temple, market, Monkey Jungle, Elephant Sanctuary and historic cave Goa Gajah are all worth the experience.
All restaurants are within walking distance and the Bintang supermarket are also accessible by walking. Be prepared to don a sarong if visiting the temples and other sacred sites.
The owner is accessible by email and will answer any questions and give advice with immediate reply.
Great stay. Would highly recommend.
Patricia, thank you for the lovely review and the appreciation for my wonderful staff! They are truly beautiful people who are dedicated to making sure all of our guests have the best vacation experience possible. It was so great that you got to spend three weeks at my home which gave you plenty of time to relax in the quiet and peacefulness, but as you said, things to do and adventure are just around the corner. I was so happy that you got to experience so much while you were there and that you have made special memories to take home. I am glad that you found the many hiking trails in the immediate area, because there really is some beautiful scenery just waiting to be explored. Sounds like you enjoyed the delicous food, the temples, the beach...so happy that you had a great time and my staff and I look forward to hosting you again!
The villa is just as it is advertised. Right near a day spa down a little lane and very private.
A very nice 2 bedroom Villa in a private location, close to cafes and eateries and a very good yoga studio. More quiet than Ubud itself but only a short taxi ride or 20 min. walk to the centre of town. It was the ideal location for a quiet relaxing getaway. Lots to see and in and around Ubud especially traditional Balinese arts and culture and for mindfulness and wellness enthusiasts. The food was good everywhere we went and very good value. People were very friendly also. The taxi people can become a bit annoying as they are everywhere and constantly ask you if you need a ride. Our hosts collected us from the airport as planned and visited each morning to provide breakfast. My only criticisms and they are minor ones are as follows:
The breakfast provided is quite basic but more importantly you are asked what you would like for breakfast the next day. However, this became a bit awkward because there was no menu to choose from so it was unclear to us what was available. I would suggest developing a simple 5-7 day breakfast menu to address this.
I would also recommend having the towels refreshed every two days at most. Ours were only changed once in 7 days and with the humidity there, the towels couldn't air properly.
Otherwise we had a very pleasant and relaxing stay at the villa and in Ubud. It's a perfect place to stay if you're happy to explore and do your own thing with a comfortable and private base to do it from.
Daniel thank you for the lovely review! I am so glad you enjoyed the local area from eateries to the nearby yoga studio. And you are correct, Villa Laba Puseh is in a great location, close enough to walk to everything and still located in a private and very quiet and relaxing location. I think your suggestion for a breakfast menu plan is a good one and I will talk with my villa manager about developing one. I am really concerned that your towels were not changed often enough (that is normally done every two days) and sincerely apologize for that-I have already addressed this issue with the villa manager. I hope you visit Bali in the future and come home to us again when you return!
Nice place out of the busy part of ubud.
Nice clean place, pool is nice and open living room with view on pool nice. Made cooked us lovely pancakes each day and helped entertaining our 1y old. Room is nice. We liked yo stay just outside the main street of ubud and used the yoga that is 10-12 'm walking distance from the property a couple of times. Thanks you all for the clean place, lovely food and our pleasant stay there.
Godfried, I am so glad that your family enjoyed your stay at Villa Laba Puseh! Yes, one of the really nice things about my home is that it is quiet and peaceful and out of the noise of the hustle and bustle of Ubud, but still close enough to be accessible to everything you need. I am so glad that you found Intuitive Flow Yoga Studio overlooking the rice fields, just a ten minute walk down the footpath from the villa-it is a great place. Thank you for your appreciation of Made also, who is a great cook and a real gem-I am so blessed to have such wonderful staff! I look forward to hosting your family again in the future.
Located in the quiet village of Penestanan, on the outskirts of Ubud. Adjacent to Eve Spa, nearby organic restaurants and juice bars, yoga and meditation. Personal guided sightseeing, shopping and temple tours available on site.
