Quiet location with extensive views over Funchal. Sleeps two. Free Internet
This extremely spacious one bedroom apartment brings you right into the heart of Funchal, but in a very quiet and peaceful residential area where you can relax on your balcony and watch the cruise ships and ferries coming and going or lounge round the communal pool and soak up the sun – a real oasis of calm just minutes from the city centre. The elevated balcony gives a perfect view of the cable cars making their way up to Monte and firework displays in June and at the New Year. There is a large double bedroom with sliding doors to the balcony that extends the full length of the apartment, a full bathroom and a well equipped kitchen. The lounge is spacious with dining area, DVD player and cable TV, again with sliding doors bringing the balcony into the room. High-speed internet access is free. Spacious apartment conveniently located for old Funchal centre.
A spacious and well appointed apartment with sunny balcony. Accessible for the old town centre. The hill where the apartment is situated is steep but only a few hundred yards down to the town and shops, so nothing compared to the less central areas of Funchal situated on steep hills where transport would be essential. We spent the week in and around Funchal, so managed with buses and walking and did not hire a car.
The only features of the apartment that need improving are the information pack - almost non-existent with no emergency or safety information, missing or out-of-date information on equipment in the apartment and out-of-date tourist information. In the kitchen, the units are looking a bit worn out but everything worked.
You are correct - a car is not essential in this location - the old and new parts of the city centre are easily reached on foot and the bus station is handy.
We accept your observation about the Tourist Information at the apartment - unfortunately this is sometimes removed by guests - we will make sure that it is replaced. Emergency and Safety information is clearly displayed and has been inspected to the satisfaction of the local authority "Alojamenta Local" licensing officers.
The apartment was large and well appointed, everything we needed was there.lovely views from the balcony
Only downside was the road up to the apartment very steep hill
We are delighted you enjoyed your stay.
We have written numerous responses to comments about the very short hill up to the apartment over the years. Many people love the exercise and appreciate that it is that 50 metres of elevation that gives them the views over the bay. No hill = no panorama! We also tell all guests about the regular short and cheap bus ride that takes you from the centre of Funchal to 100 metres above the apartment, so that you can walk downhill on the way back if you prefer (please read previous reviews on this subject).
Spacious apartment in convenient location with delightful balcony
We found the apartment to be very spacious with a delightful balcony with super views. The complex had a lovely sunbathing area and pool which was very well kept. It was located very close to the centre of Funchal and within easy walking distance of the coast. The apartment was however set halfway up a steep hill which was quite a chore when walking home in the evening. Some of the fittings in the apartment were a little dated, but our overall experience was very positive and we enjoyed a fabulous holiday there.
Delighted you enjoyed your stay. The owner visits once a year and always reinvests in upgrading the facilities.
Great place, simple and spacious. Very central, but the slope up is not for the faint hearted!
We stayed in quite a lot in the evening, and the kitchen was fine for cooking simple meals. All clean and tidy. Lots of space for storage etc.
Lovely views over the bay, bed very comfy. Pool clean, nice sun beds etc.
Only comment is that the folder needs to give details of who to contact for practical issues, as well as bin days etc, and the kitchen needs a couple of new oven dishes.
Thank you for the feedback. We have added a couple of oven dishes to the kitchen. You should have had no less than five different telephone numbers to contact us - these appear on every e-mail we send to guests? There is no need to have bin-days as the communal "casa do Lixo" with recycling containers is continually emptied by the council.
Perfect location - central but quiet
Like other reviewers I can only endorse what has been said before - this is an ideal location, just a few minutes walk from both the Old Town and the New Town. We hired a car but won't bother next time - it isn't necessary. The apartment is exactly as described in the ad, with nothing missing, and a lovely sunny balcony. Manager very friendly and helpful.
Just returned from our first holiday in Madeira staying at this lovely apartment in Funchal. The apartment is very spacious and clean and feels more like a home than a holiday let and has a nice balcony with great views over the town and out to sea and the Marina.
Manuel collected us from the airport (about 20 minutes drive) and was very friendly and informative about the Island, and dropped us off at the apartment where we met Rita the cleaner who gave us a tour of the apartment and building which was very helpful.
The pool area is lovely and quiet too and a real bonus.
It is just a 5-10 minute walk to both the old and new town areas.
The only downside is the steep hill back to the apartment but you cant have everything and it did help with some much needed exercise after eating at the many excellent restaurants close by, particularly in the Old Town.
We would recommend this apartment and Madeira in general.
We keep telling people how good the small hill is for their exercise - but more importantly, without it you would not have the fantastic views!
Varandas do Funchal is situated just above the centre of Funchal, within a 5 minute walk down hill you will find yourself amongst shops, supermarkets, restaurants, bars and the famous fruit, flower and fish market where fresh produce can be brought daily. You can also get the cable car from the old town which will take you up to Monte with excellent views over the city and port. The apartments have just been fully redecorated on the external of the building with new tiling on the balconies and communal areas giving a very fresh feel to the property.
