Five Master Bedrooms All With En Suites, Private Pool And Expansive Decks.
We designed Adagio as two spacious pavilions separated by a very private sun deck and pool. The design incorporates a free flow of space for large groups as well as being able to ensure privacy for all guests.
Adagio's three-level main pavilion contains the expansive Great Room, graced by a beautiful and extremely well equipped gourmet kitchen and two dining areas, one inside and one outside under the covered deck. To the left looking toward the sea is another covered area with a wet bar with ice maker, beverage fridge and sink with a gas grill along side. The Great Room is also the gathering place for friends and family, with stylish, but comfortable, sofas and chairs. Sliding glass doors open to a wide covered veranda set for outdoor dining or family games and relaxation; this looks out to the beach below and to the 180 degree blue sea vistas.
A staircase from the Great Room curves up to an air-conditioned double-twin bed master bedroom (can be made up as a king). This bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a tropical glass-block shower and its own private veranda. A second identically sized air-conditioned king bed suite with a private veranda is just off the Great Room, and below, on the lower level accessed by a walkway around the pool deck, is a very large air-conditioned double-twin bedroom, which can be made up as a king with two additional twin beds, and bath ensuite with another private veranda; all twin bed suites may also be made up as king suites with advance notice.
Across the coral stone tiled pool deck is Adagio's second air-conditioned pavilion offering the perfect set-up for families with small children - a king bedroom with ensuite with a set of connecting doors into the adjoining double-twin (or king) suite - roomy and convenient, yet also very private. This pavilion is handicap accessible; a ramp provides easy access up to the Great Room and main veranda areas.
Adagio is beautifully furnished in the Hemingway island style, bright tropical fabrics and lovely artwork, and surrounded by flowering gardens and waving palms. It's well designed to provide generous space for togetherness, and areas throughout for private time as well. Just like its musical name, Adagio provides an island 'slow tempo' in a luxurious, serene and well-equipped setting.

About Brian MacDonald
We're Brian and Marion MacDonald and we live in Toronto with our daughter. If you have any questions about Adagio please don't hesitate to contact us.
Brian MacDonald purchased this Villa in 2002
Why Brian MacDonald chose Virgin Gorda
Marion and I first visited Virgin Gorda in October, 1996 as a result of a corporate get-together. On that trip we rented three villas for about 20 people and had the time of our lives. We were seasoned travelers by that time and had been to many of the islands in the Caribbean but the charm of Virgin Gorda and the beach at Mahoe told us that we had found paradise. We vowed to come back as soon as possible. Several months later, a friend of ours called to say that a lot had been released for purchase. We bought the lot virtually sight unseen and on the basis of a site map. After several years of return visits and winding our way through the building approval process, we obtained government permission to build on the lot. Needless to say we came down every few months to renew our vision in terms of the villa layout and overall design. The design process was aided by our stays at some of the other villas at Mahoe Bay. We borrowed concepts and design ideas from many of the other villas on the island and we thank those villa owners for their efforts in having gone ahead and forged the way. The result is that our villa was the last one completed within the Mahoe area and incorporates the best ideas from many of the other villas as well as our own sense of lazy island living. After several years of work with our builder on the plans for Adagio Villa in 2000 - 2001, we began construction in April, 2001. Adagio was completed in February, 2002. During Christmas 2001 and February 2002 we took delivery of several containers of furniture and appliances from Miami and Canada and set to work decorating the rooms in a style that is very much Caribbean. In March 2002 we proudly opened the villa for guests. The grounds and gardens were landscaped and planted in 2002 and 2003 and are now fully mature. We hope that you will take some time to stroll through the gardens as we've planted many native plants and other tropical species.
What makes this Villa unique
Our primary concerns in designing the villa were to maximize the free flow of space to accommodate larger family and group vacations; provide our guests with a very luxurious setting; ensure our guests had private areas to escape the pressures of larger groups; provide a safe environment for children of all ages; and make sure the villa was handicapped accessible as we had elderly parents at the time.

Heaven on Earth
A remarkable villa in an exquisite location! Adagio is an exceptionally appointed home away from home. With a great room and substantial patio space for socializing, a kitchen any chef would delight preparing meals in, master bedrooms with private bathrooms and outdoor glass showers. Ideal for families and friends looking for a place to get away from it all, or for adventurers who want to discover Virgin Gorda by land or by sea. Just yards away from some of the most spectacular snorkeling in the Caribbean, on a beach that feels like it was created just for you. Pictures and words cannot capture the beauty of the view, nor the environment the MacDonald's have created at Adagio Villa. I can't wait to return!
Thanks for the nice review Joanna - It was a pleasure having you at Adagio Villa and I really hope that you can make it back. cheers Brian
Great location and marvelous home
This was first visit to Adagio and it was more spectacular than I anticipated. The villa is well laid out with lots of patio space both open and under cover. The view is beautiful and the sunsets better. The bedrooms are large each with a private bathroom. The kitchen is well appointed and all appliances are new. The beach is a three minute walk and crowded would be defined as more than five people! There is good snorkelling just off the beach and a short kayak ride will take you to adjacent beaches. The villa pool is relaxing. A good morning cardio walk is up the road to Nail Bay and even beyond. A rental car is required to visit the rest of the island. Places to visit include the look out at Hogs Heaven, Leverick Bay, Bitter End Yacht Club and The Baths. Top of the Baths is a great place for lunch.
Thanks for the nice review - it was a pleasure having you at Adagio and hope you return many times.
a Most Amazing Place
This was not my first stay at Adagio Villa, and I've already made my arrangements to return next year. This house is so exceedingly well laid out that it works extremely well for mixed groups of family and friends. Mahoe Bay Beach is a 2-minute walk away down the hill, and a busy day there will see maybe 6 other people all day. We tend to get out and try all the various options at other beaches as well. I've even discovered that you can swim from Mahoe Bay to Savannah Bay for a good, long work out. The diving is magnificent -- thank you Dive BVI-- the various parks are delightful, and it is one of the most beautiful, relaxing places to be in the entire world. I'm so grateful to have found this island and this house!
Adagio Villa provides a window onto a corner of paradise. Awe inspiring view of Sir Francis Drake Channel keeps you captivated for hours. The great room is wonderfully decorated while the bedrooms have ample space and first class comfort. Some of the best diving in the Caribbean is available around Virgin Gorda and the islands to the south of Tortola made available by the highly competent and professional team of Dive BVI. If you want some exercise, try walking around the mountain - sure to get the cardio rate pumping, while enjoying the many vistas, including the North Channel from Hogs Heaven. Highly recommend Adagio - every comfort of home and more is made available for your use.
Again we returned to Adagio and it just gets better every time. The new kitchen is fabulous and easy to work in. We found everything to be excellent, far beyond what we needed. What a place to relax in or to do some strenuous exercise. The beach at Mahoe Bay is perhaps the best in all of the Caribbean. Terrific swimming and snorkelling. Adagio is what dreams are made of.
Cool breezes, clear deep blue skies, crystal clear waters, white sand and spectacular view of some of the other 50 Virgin Islands greet visitors as they arrive at Adagio Villa. Mahoe Bay’s most luxurious villa encompasses expansive decks, private fresh water pool, five master bedrooms all with super quiet air-conditioning, en suite bathrooms with outdoor showers, designer furnishings, an elegant decor reminiscent of the British Empire in the tropical East Indies and you. Our kitchen and outdoor bar are new as of 2015.
