Rural Hawaii...good location...great value...excellent host.
This home is a nice country (not city) location about 1 hour 40 minutes from Kona. We were well situated to visit Volcano National Park (40 min), black sand beach (7 min), South Point cliffs and green sand beach (45 min). The home was clean and spacious for 4 adults. The host (Nancy) is pleasant and supportive. We recommend this place.
Beautiful house in a lovely location
Shirley’s house is amazing! It is thoughtfully decorated throughout. It has anything you might need in the kitchen, bathrooms and elsewhere, including a boogie board!
The only drawback is the location which is very isolated from most attractions on the island - except the volcano. If you are planning to spend most of your time at the volcano : this is your place!
Thank you Shirley for a wonderful vacation !
These guests were great. I enjoyed our conversations and discussing things they planned to do while they were here. This is why we decided to have a vacation rental for the fact that everyone that's stayed in our rental has made our life more enjoyable. Thank you all our guests for choosing our place to stay we've enjoyed all of you very much and just keep coming.
Great house, location and hosts!
We loved this house! We have rented alot of houses in hawaii over the years and can definitely say that this was the best equipped house ever. It had space, every appliance you could need, more towels than three houses combined, even had its own library of books! It was the first trip for our family so we chose this house for location, it worked well for being in the middle of hilo and kona. And also seemed to be free of vog, not sure if that is year round or not. The hosts Shirley and Rick are amazing, very easy to work with and accommodating. It was fun comparing old alaska stomping grounds and horse stories. We only wish we could have stayed even longer than two weeks :) we will definitely stay here again, and recommending it to our friends for their next summer trip. Mahalo Shirley and Rick!!!
Rick and I throughly enjoyed this family. Their little one was one of the cutest and sweet as a little one could be. We are definitely looking forward to having them stay again. Rick and I had great conversations with them and loved the family interaction. Thank you again Adkison family and blessings and happiness to until we meet again. Your Hosts.
Felt like home.
Shirley and Rick were amazing hosts. We saw them on our first day, had a wonderful visit about their property and it’s history. We were pleasantly surprised to find we could drink the natural spring water. Fresh eggs from the resident chickens were provided, and the local wild turkey flock provided plenty of entertainment during drinks on the wrap-around lenai. Other than when we needed the garbage taken out or any special special requests, Shirley and Rick were the neighbors across the pasture. The property is fenced and gated. We felt safe and secure. The neighborhood is quiet, except for all the native birds singing, crowing and gobbling - which we didn’t mind as THAT is Hawaii. The house is roomy and comfortable. There is one ceiling fan in the living/kitchen area and box fans upstairs for the bedrooms. Personal fans in the bathrooms. Everything is provided, including some staple food and spices, beach towels, 1 hair dryer and paper products. Plan to spend tine on the lenai lounging on the reclining loungers, and enjoying the ocean view. Also, plan to visit the coffee, macadamia and bee farms around the area - yum!! This is a perfect location for touring the southern part of the island and Hilo. FYI - Kona is 2hrs on a curvy road. Great for families too. Lots of safe space to run around and play. The town of Nealehu is quaint and the bakery is a must. As is the southern most restaurant - which I can’t remember the name right now - it is not Shaka.
This was the second time to the Island of Hawaii for us; we spent it with family this time and this place was perfect for us. Thank you.
Beautiful Plantation House in SouthPoint area
This beautiful well appointed house fit our family gathering needs to perfection. 3 bedrooms upstairs,(with huge lending library and cozy relaxing area to read and relax, main floor had open great room with large kitchen, eating bar, dining table and living-room. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you could possible wish for. We were invited to use all her spices along with anything we needed for our 3 day stay. Beds were very comfortable and rooms opened up to upstairs veranda, with reading chairs and view of ocean. This is a large property with horses and chickens, lots of palm trees and views of ocean. Main floor opened out to patio with chairs and front patio had table for 6 and bbq.
We hosted our son and his two friends for our traditional Hawaiian Thanksgiving. The host, Shirley Bolten was fabulous. She and her husband live close by on the property. It was very helpful to have them near by.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We will return next year.
As your host, we became friends immediately with you and your family. I really appreciate that you were happy with or rental. Both my husband and I put a lot of effort in making a homey and comfortable place for your stay. We will definitely be looking forward to your return visit. Thank you so much for your great review. Shirley and Rick.
Shirley does an amazing job of paying attention to detail. Everything a visitor needs has been thought of and supplied. The house is a palace, the kitchen well equipped and the location is good. A really good value.
Thank you so much for the great review. I give you five stars for being very enjoyable guests. I would love to have you return in the very near future. Thanks again for choosing our place to stay. Blessings, Shirley and Rick
We're located halfway between Kailua Kona and Hilo with beautiful mountain scenery and the great Pacific ocean to admire, which makes it easy to travel in either direction. Our active volcano is located about 40 minutes from us. We have 7 1/2 acres with grazing horses to watch and a serene setting for rest and relaxation. Our weather is perfect with lots of sunshine. We offer our Aloha spirit to those who visit and our goal is to make your stay at our plantation house as enjoyable as possible. Just to let you know, we no longer have roosters on our property because of their noise disturbing our guest. We want your stay to be as pleasant as possible without roosters crowing. Also to let you know, our place is just a short distance from Green Sands beach and about 7 miles from Black Sands beach and Sea Mountain golf course. We also have 2 nice grocery markets within 12 miles and Punalulu Bakery within 2 miles. The mountainous country sides are beautiful, I'm sure you will enjoy visiting our home and for a short time you can see how living in this area would be.
