Breathe ... It's time to take that long awaited vacation in the North Carolina mountains. Mountain Song Cabin is the perfect retreat from the busy world. It is located in a quiet, private neighborhood just 8 minutes from downtown Boone, NC. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy getting back to this peaceful retreat after a long day on the trail.
Grab a glass of your favorite beverage and sit on the porch and watch the breathtaking sunsets and the indigenous wildlife feeding on the apple, pear, and cherry trees or even the wild blackberry bushes.
Inside you have all of the comforts of home. A well equipped kitchen, a cozy living area to enjoy the fireplace, a nicely remodeled bathroom and comfortable beds with heated mattress pads for those chilly nights.
Unplug and enjoy the fresh mountain air by the stream fed ponds. Have a fire; roast some marshmallows and enjoy s'mores at the large fire-pit! Enjoy your downtime listening to the spring peepers, crickets and chirping frogs. Chase lightning bugs like you did when you were a kid. Appreciate nature right here in your own backyard! Be on the look out for deer, groundhogs, wild turkey and foxes and there is always an orchestra of songbirds close by.
For your 'plugged in' entertainment and connectivity needs, there is a Bose iPod docking station, cable TV, a video library and of course wireless internet service.
Mountain Song Cabin is your peaceful retreat in the Appalachian Mountains but don't forget to get out and enjoy the activities in the area. There is a wonderful farmers' market every Saturday morning from May to October at the Horn in the West parking lot. All of the wonderful fresh foods of the area are recommended. There are artists that create amazing works of art. There is usually live music and even fresh flowers for your table. Check out the 'Area Attractions' page for the links to many of the area's activities.
Thank you for your interest in Mountain Song Cabin. We look forward to seeing you!
We love the mountains but can't get there often enough! So when we're not at the cabin, it's available to you. Enjoy this slice of heaven.
Donna - Katy Conley purchased this cabin in 2012
Stunning views yet only 3 miles to downtown Boone.
Stunning views; close in to town yet nice and quiet!
We loved staying in this log cabin. It was just what we were looking for. Katy & Donna were very attentive - they email back immediately if you are having any issues - which, judging by our stay, you most likely won't have. I only emailed them because I couldn't locate the thermostat. It was so modern I didn't recognize it as the thermostat. But I found it in 5 or ten minutes and they had already emailed me back to tell me where it was and how it worked. It heated the place up very quickly. Almost too quickly. We didn't have time to take our jackets off. The place itself has everything you need to entertain yourself. I could've just stayed there the whole time & not ventured out but we did venture out to Blowing Rock, Boone & Gtrandfather Mtn which were all very close by. We drove the Parkway from Grandfather to BR one afternoon and ate at the Blowing Rock Ale house and it was a day well spent to say the least. They have a lot of information on places to hike, and things to see and do to get you started. From there you can go online or just ask people around town and you're sure to find what you're looking for in terms of NC mountain adventure. They even had a couple stamped postcards that you were welcome to use to tell your fiends about the beautiful sunsets you'll see from the large swing on the huge porch. Theres even a guitar you can play while you sit around the fire pit under the brightest stars I've seen in long time.
My husband and I stayed at the property over New Year's weekend. The cabin is very cute and cozy - good size kitchen and living room combo, with two bedrooms in the back. I was very happy with how clean the cabin was, and there were fresh flowers on the kitchen table (thank you!!!)! The kitchen is well equipped; so well that we had reservations in Blowing Rock for dinner on New Year's Eve, but we decided to stay in a cook ourselves. There is also a nice wrap around porch (it was a little cold to enjoy it as much as I would've liked), and the views were just beautiful. Thank you for a great stay - I hope to be back soon!
Perfect mountain cabin getaway for small groups/families and couples. The views from the porch are amazing. The beds are very comfortable. Cabin was very clean upon our arrival. Owners are very responsive and contacted us when we arrived to make sure we were pleased. Only a 5 minute drive to downtown Boone. We will be back!!
We struggled to make this trip. Serious family health issues caused one rescheduling, and more recent developments just about kept us at home. That would have been a big mistake.
Upon arriving at the house, I realized that I had failed to make a note of the door lock combination. We don't have smart phones, so there we stood. I managed to convince a lady at VRBO of who I was and she gave me Donna's phone number. Donna was immediately available and took the time to coach me on my maiden voyage with a keyless entry system. Within minutes I was on the porch enjoying the amazing view with my first bottle of wine while my wife unloaded the car (seriously!).
The house was very comfortable and well equipped. Everything was clean and well maintained. We were impressed with the close proximity of Boone and Blowing Rock to the property, even though the views and solitude surrounding the house gave the impression of a much more remote location. There are a few neighboring houses around, but I never saw or heard a single person over the course of four days.
We hiked on Grandfather Mountain, spent an afternoon in Blowing Rock, and ate out a couple of times. Mostly, we sat on the porch and let our problems drift away. Our beautiful Golden Retriever, Jake, went everywhere with us and made many new friends.
I would highly recommend this rental to those looking for solitude, close proximity to a town, and amazing high elevation views. While planning and then rescheduling our trip, I had many occasions to communicate with Donna by email. She always got back to me in minutes. Customer service was outstanding! No complaints at all.

We, 3 adults, stayed at the Mountain Song during the last week of October. The house is very clean, attractively decorated and comfortably furnished. Kitchen, and bathrooms well supplied. We loved the beautiful view of the mountains from the large window and outdoor porch. Very peaceful. We loved the house and the location which is about 10 min. from Boone, and in the mountains. Plenty of towels and blankets and sheets.
A few minor problems: There are several apple trees on the property. The tree by the steps leading from the parking area to the house was dropping its apples on the steps which attracted bees, but we just we walked on the small grassy hill. The rug by the front door should be replaced by a non skid non buckling rug. The parking area should be wider for an easier turn around to re-enter the road. Only 2 chairs for the dining table. We used the bench that was in the second bedroom.
We enjoyed our stay very much. When we return to Boone next year, we hope the Mountain Song will be available.
My wife and I had a great time here for our anniversary weekend. We used it more as a vacation to get away from it all and had great privacy in this cabin. However, it was also within easy driving distance of Boone if you were looking for a place that also allowed you to go out to eat or for some bars. For us, the cabin had everything we needed to stay in and cook for ourselves and we were able to take advantage of the iPod dock, the DVDs available, as well as the game table to pass the time. The cabin was very comfortable and easy to get to and was clean and nicely updated. We especially enjoyed the large porch with a view over the two ponds and a nice big swinging chair to sit out on.
We drove to Elk Knob State Park (about 20-30 minutes away) for a hike one day as well which was very nice.
The cabin was cozy, comfortable and very well equipped. We did not cook in much but when we did everything was right there. The cabin was convenient to Boone and Blowing Rock.
The view was the reason we were there. It was spectacular. It was a big view with mountains close and in the distance. We never tired of looking at the mountains.
We would rent this cabin again.
