Awesome Property

This property is excellent for a couple or a family with 1 to 2 young children. The property was exactly as described. The place was very clean. The check-in and check-out process was seamless. The property owner was on-site, and she was extremely nice and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. Everything in the unit worked great. The pool was incredible. We were able to park on the driveway, so it was very convenient. My daughter loved the loft and thought it was the greatest thing in the world...She said this was her best Hawaii trip ever.

We look forward to staying next year.

Ocean not Beach Front

The property was right on the ocean and in fact you get sprayed from waves crashing on the lava rocks when the wind picks up. That said we were a little disappointed that we could not walk to the beach. So even though we are on the ocean we had to drive 5 minutes to get to the beach. Sleeping with the ocean breeze blowing through the window was fantastic but the upstairs space required an A/C to cool our son that was so loud that a lot of the calming ocean wave noises were muted throughout the night. Overall though a wonderful spot but next time I think we will sacrifice some ocean noise for beach access.

Definitely a piece of paradise!!

Beautiful apartment in such a very lovely part of Kailua. Enjoyed the last few days of our holiday here so much!! The pool is gorgeous and it's a real treat waking up to the sun rising over the roaring ocean. Only one small recommendation ... possibly improve ventilation either with skylights or more windows that open. The ocean breeze is so refreshing and if there could be more flow through then air conditioning wouldn't be such a life saver for guests not used to the island's humidity.

Very Clean and Comfortable

My wife and I recently stayed 4 nights in the ocean view rental. The unit was very clean, and the bedroom comfortable. The second bedroom is a loft which we didn't use. It is definitely oceanfront, the images clearly show the conditions and environment to expect. I read other reviews complaining about the rocky shoreline but Lanikai Beack and Kailua Beach are close by if you are looking for great sand. The restraunts in Kailua aren't the greatest, I recommend Uahi Island Grill and that's about it. Everyone recommends Buzz Steakhouse, but that's because it's the only place to eat near the beach, we didn't think it was very good. The best place to eat was the Original Roy's in Hawaii Kai about 30 min drive. Overall the beaches and the great rental unit are the reasons to come to Kailua. The owners are available onsite if needed, however we didn't need to bother them for anything.

Swimming pool is awesome

When we arrived I made the mistake of taking a screen shot of the directions and I guess I cut the top part off with the exact address on it. I had to call because the house isn't very visable from the road and the roof was green not red. When I called and told the property owner of the street I was on which was the street where the property was located, she was kinda short and kept repeating the name and spelling of the street I had already told her I was on as if I was an idiot. Definitely not very welcoming to me. We finally arrived and decided to walk to the back of the residence to look at our ocean front view. There we met Mr. Coffey who promptly, in a matter fact manner, informed us the property we rented was back around the corner and up the stairs. Again not very welcoming. The ocean front view is just that a view. You can not swim at this beach. We did observe some people fishing nearby. My husband actually ran into the owner again the next day and made a comment about how nice the pool was and his response was, "ya, I know." The ocean front property is nice but not very big and there's no real stove or dishwasher. That's not that big of a deal though. I also didn't mind the recycling and numerous rules either except for after three days of my husband smoking outside at the table and chairs on our deck we were told he needed to go to the beach to smoke. We were able to do laundry on the property which was nice but we had to constantly bother the owners to open the garage for us when we needed to do any laundry and because they are the high energy efficient washer and dryer, they take forever. All communication with Mrs. Coffey via email was great.

Owner's Response: The guest received full driving instruction with the complete address well before the arrival date. I received a call just prior to the check-in time that they had no idea where the house was and accused me of leaving the address off of the directions, which was not the case. I told her the exact address and spelled the long Hawaiian street name for her to make sure they found the property. I'm sorry she found this offensive. My husband thought the guests needed help finding the rental unit and gave them direction. I'm sorry they found this offensive. Most guests find the ocean view and the 4 small visible islands quiet inspiring.I'm sorry they thought it was "just a view".There are 2 very clear photos of the beach and ocean on the listing, which show the lava shoreline. My husband acknowledged the guests comment of the pool and told him that he would turn the waterfalls on when they are in the pool. This is a legal licensed vacation rental and only portable appliances are allowed by the City and County. Built-in stove and a dishwasher is not included in the listing amenities. There is property information note in the room letting guests know where the trash and recycle bins are, a/c operation, and laundry location. Smoking is not allowed on the property. Because the other rental unit was vacant the first 3 days of their stay, we did not enforce the no smoke policy until the check-in day of our incoming guests. We thought they would appreciate us bending the no smoke policy for the first 3 days, but again another negative response from them. We are happy to open the garage door for guests when they need to do laundry--there was never any denial or conflict about that during their stay. I'm sorry they found the energy efficient washer and dryer disappointing. There are about 10 different settings from a 15 minute speed wash to a very deep wash setting and everything in between. The same multi settings for the dryer. There is no reason I can give why they chose long wash/dry settings and then complained about it.
