This quaint cottage is located between Brenham and College Station in historic Washington, less than 2 miles from the Washington on the Brazos State Park. Surrounded by great shopping, country roads to explore and historical attractions!
The property is owned and operated by Dean and Nancy Heard who lived and worked in the Houston area for years before permanently relocating to a slower pace of life in Washington Texas.
The property has been in Nancy's family for over 100 years. The farmhouse was her Great Grandmother's House but was restored by the couple and was their weekend getaway from life in the city. They now want to share that getaway with others wanting an escape from the city.
The property is not only centrally located between Houston and Austin but centrally located between College Station and Brenham, simply a great location!
Mornings and evening are the best! Listening to the birds, cows, horses and roosters, watching the deer and feeling the breeze. Enjoying the beautiful sunsets and wonderful sunrises! Laying on the hammock at night watching the stars!
We brought my 75 year old parents to the area for the history and antiquing. We chose to come in early spring for the flowers and were not disappointed. The farmhouse location, layout size and amenities were perfect for this visit.
Our stay was no less than wonderful! Our family of grown siblings and one spouse booked our 2 day stay and it took all of 5 seconds for everyone to approve once they arrived. The house was warm and inviting and not in the least bit sterile or 'vanilla'. It felt like Gran's House...perfectly comfortable. Our experience was enhanced by the graciousness of our hosts and their sweet fox terrier, Lilly. She doesn't meet any strangers and was a welcome addition to our gathering. The porch was a good and breezy place to congregate at any time. The kitchen had all of the implements and equipment with which to prepare meals. The property was a joy to wander, providing snacks for the horses, food for the goldfish in the water lily pond. Our hosts were never intrusive, but available and when Dean visited with Lily, we peppered him with questions about the place and their history with it. (No spoilers here. You'll have to ask your own questions if you're interested.) Be prepared to miss the place the moment you begin to leave!
We stayed here for our Round Top Weekend and couldn't have been happier! The house was very clean, comfortable and just as cute as can be and the surrounding pasture was filled with bluebonnets! When we arrived we were welcomed with brownies, a bottle of wine and a fire pit completely prepared to light. It was a perfect greeting! Nancy was very attentive to details and to meeting our needs while we were there. It was a great place to linger over breakfast and conversation and a wonderful place to land after a full day of shopping. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and certainly hope to have the opportunity to do so!
We celebrated my husband's birthday here with friends. Plenty of table space for visiting and playing games. Kitchen had more appliances than expected and came in handy (crockpot and waffle iron!) Nancy easy to work with and had good recommendations. Would stay here again!
Wonderful stay in a loving, warm and welcoming farmhouse built in 1936. We were greeted with brownies, wine, crackers and cheese and much more to make us feel at home. We enjoyed coffee on the patio, bird watched, fed the horses, relaxed on the hammock and enjoyed cooking home-made meals. If it weren't for all the shopping and wineries around Brenham, we would have stayed in the farmhouse the whole time, playing games, laughing and enjoying the legacy of the property.
We arrived at the farmhouse just as Dean was passing with Lily (the sweetest little dog you could meet). Dean gave us a lovely welcome (as did Lily) and Dean kindly showed us around the house.
We loved it as soon as we walked through the door. It was full of character, clean, and had averything we needed including some delicious home baked brownies and a bottle of wine courtesy of Dean & Nancy.
The farmhouse is surrounded by farm land with lovely views across the fields and was very peaceful and relaxing. One of the neighbours was returning Lily and stopped to say hello as we were taking in a lovely sunrise whilst enjoying our morning tea and coffee. Everyone we met was so friendly.
Although the hummingbirds had migrated south for the year we were really fortunate to see one on both days for a short while. A real bonus. We also saw quite a few woodpeckers and enjoyed taking the snacks supplied to feed the horses nearby.
We only spent 2 nights at the farmhouse as we were passing through but could have happily spent more time there. Dean & Nancy really couldn't have been more welcoming.
