If you are traveling to Phoenix, consider the beautiful and conveniently located community of Ahwatukee in South East Phoenix. Ahwatukee is a community of Phoenix that is sandwiched between South Mountain and The Gila River Indian reservation. If you are a lover of nature, you will be in awe as the town is surrounded by the beautiful desert mountain foothills of South Mountain.

The Village of Ahwatukee is a safe and quiet family community with a great school district. The area has a large selection of restaurants, retail shops, golf courses, tennis courts, hiking trails, a farmers market, a huge outlet mall, an AMC 24 Theater and so much more. Ahwatukee was actually voted one of the U.S. top 10 places to live in 2002.

About Jamie Heinz

Hi, everyone! I recently purchased this beautiful home in sunny, warm Phoenix to escape from the cold, dirty New York winters! I decided to offer up my home for vacation rentals to bring in some extra income (hey, every little bit helps, right?). I've since relocated to Phoenix permanently and reside elsewhere in Ahwatukee. I absolutely love the layout of this home as well as the community it is in (Ahwatukee has a very magical feel to it - you'll know what I mean when you get here!), and it makes me happy to know that I could open my home up to other very nice people.

Jamie Heinz purchased this house in 2013

Why Jamie Heinz chose Phoenix

In April 2013 when I traveled to Phoenix to look for homes, the realtor drove us all around the different neighborhoods in the Phoenix area. NOTHING compared to the magic and beauty of Ahwatukee Foothills. There are desert mountains everywhere you look, beautiful palm trees and cacti - Ahwatukee is truly an art of nature. You must see this place for yourself. Ahwatukee was voted one of the top ten places to live in 2002.

What makes this house unique

This home has many unique benefits. The home is located on a very quiet block with little traffic, beautiful views of South Mountain from the Kitchen Breakfast Nook. The backyard and pool are Super Private - there are no homes behind you at all, and only one story homes to the right and left of you, so not one nosy neighbor will be able to stare at you and be in your business! It's SO private you could tan in the nude or skinny dip if you wish! (Just saying LOL).

Also, every single room in the house has high, valted ceilings which gives the home interior a very 'grand' and open feeling. I love one story homes; who wants to keep going up and down a huge flight of stairs 20x a day? That gets old really fast.

Lastly, the master bedroom and master bath are to die for in my opinion. Just love it!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My partner and I stayed at this house for a couple days during a heat wave and we really couldn't have been in a better place in 120 degree weather. We grilled lamb chops (from AL-Hana, although there is a Safeway right down the street) on the grill and splashed in the pool all night. The neighborhood was wonderfully quiet and the wall surrounding the back gave us the privacy we wish we could have at home. :) Jamie was very attentive despite being on the other side of the country and made sure that we were able to get the most out of our stay.

The house was spotless and the furnishings brand new. The house would have been plenty big for a family to stay, and the quiet neighborhood seemed very safe if that is an issue.

I really have nothing to complain about, our trip went flawlessly.

Great Spring Break Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This location was literally 20 minutes from everything- Scottsdale, Mesa, Downtown, Airport, etc. We spent the week going to spring training games and it was perfect. The house was equipped with everything we needed including dish soap, laundry detergent, hair dryer, etc. Jamie thought of everything and was so helpful and accommodating. Outdoor area was so nice with the patio table, lounge chairs, grill and of course the pool which was perfect for the five of us. I would definitely rent this house again next time we are in town. Great experience. Thanks Jamie!

Annual Guys Golfing Trip

  • 5 of 5

We were 3 guys in our 40's who travel to Phoenix each year for our annual golfing vacation. We had a very nice experience at the home. Pictures were just as advertised and the house was very clean, nice decor and well stocked with coffee, creamer, condiments and even plenty of seasoning for our BBQ'ing our steaks which was a nice surprise (the grill in the backyard is really nice and plenty big). Jamie was such a sweetheart to deal with. I already told her we will be back next year.

An okay place

  • 3 of 5

I asked for early check in (and Jamie agreed to a 9 or 10 am check in) six months before my book date, and I would have purchased an extra day if needed, but Jamie forgot all about it, then I reminded her about it and she agreed upon a noon check in. So we flew in and had to kill four hours after we got off of our plane before we could check in, after we had been driving/flying since 3 am (with a two hour time difference), so this made for a long day. Also, when we did get there at the agreed upon time the cleaning woman did not know anything at all about our early arrival so they were still cleaning...Also, we work third shift so if you go to bed early or sleep on a third shift schedule the neighbor's dogs will wake you up everyday between the hours of 6 pm until 8 pm, which I know is not Jamie's fault, but travelers should be made aware if they tend to fall asleep early or work thirds. It does not matter what room you are in because you can hear the dogs throughout the entire house. The bed was pretty hard, even with the memory foam topper. We tried to use the grill and we had no propane, which Jamie put the blame on the previous renters, so we had to either wait an hour (for Jamie to get around), or we could go purchase it ourselves. We decided to purchase the propane because we had all of our food ready to cook and were hungry at that time. That was slightly annoying to have to run an errand when you are on vacation. Then upon leaving, we are given a list of chores, such as removing the linens, doing laundry, cleaning the dishes, take out the trash, which would have been fine, but we paid $120 for a cleaning fee when it wasn't even that clean when we finally got to get into the house for our visit. The day before we were to leave I get a text message from Jamie with her letting me know that I need to text her as soon as we leave so she can get the house ready for her grandma, which is fine again because we had an early flight, but it just felt really rushed.

The long story short is:

It is an okay place, but not great

Expect miscommunication/overbooking issues

Not as clean place as you would like/chores at the end with a $120 cleaning fee for booking for a week's stay

Owner's Response: Kim, Thanks for your review. To clarify, we never agreed on a hard 9am-10am check in; please review our communication log. Your flight landed in Phoenix at 9:20am. By the time you unboarded, waited for your luggage, took the bus to the rental terminal, got your vehicle, stopped for breakfast and drove to the home, it would have been just about time for your noon check-in. The vast majority of people would have been quite happy with such an early check-in at no additional cost, but it seems this nocturnal schedule of yours (which I was not made aware of) made you unreasonable in your expectations (housekeeping informed me you arrived before our agreed upon time, and you did not allow them to finish as you wanted to go to bed). For the checkout process, I merely ask guests to leave anything that's dirty on the floor in the laundry room - so housekeeping doesn't wash anything that is still clean and to hit the start button on the dishwasher to avoid any caked on food particles. These minor asks help housekeeping turn the home over faster, thereby keeping your cleaning fees on the lower end of the cost spectrum compared to other rentals. I can see that your morning checkout was really the "middle of the night" for you, which again likely made you much more unreasonable than the normal person in doing just the slightest of requested tasks. You did provide one useful piece of info. here to help me improve the home, which was that you felt the beds were a bit too firm for your taste. For this feedback, I thank you, and I have since gone out and purchased all new, ultra-soft and plushy mattresses for the beds. (The more firm mattresses will still be kept on-site for anyone who may have a bad back or who prefers a firmer mattress.) Kim, I know you mentioned you were new to booking a vacation rental, so it's important to understand that the experience is a bit different from a hotel, which has 24/7 on-site maintenance and staff. You are instead staying inside somebody else's home, and it's important to treat their home with consideration and as if it were your "Home Away From Home". That is what the vacation home experience is all about. I hope you keep this in mind if you choose to rent from another family in the future vs. staying in a hotel room. Cheers, Jamie
