The Garden View unit is also a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom unit. The upstairs and downstairs are never rented to separate parties, that way we maximize privacy for our guests.
**As of May 15, 2016, the downstairs unit will no longer be part of the vacation rental. The downstairs unit will be occupied by the owners' mother as a retirement location.**
Highly desirable Paia location. Half lot back from the ocean. Tucked away yet very near town center.
Maui County vacation rental operating permit: STPH 2013/0026.
Paia Bay Suites is a two-story cottage built in 1987 and renovated in 2013. It is comprised of two separate suites, but only the upstairs is rented out as a vacation rental.
The upstairs is 528 sf with 1 bedroom, 1 full bathroom, kitchen and living/dining area, sleeps two adults plus 1 child. The Bay View Suite is accessed by an outside stairway.
The Bay View Suite features simple furnishings in keeping with a beach cottage atmosphere. It has a new Queen-sized bed in the bedroom, a fully remodeled full-size bathroom with walk-in shower, and a fully remodeled kitchen and a living/dining area.
There is a beautiful 8,500 square foot fenced yard and outdoor patio area. As of May 15, 2016, this yard will be shared with the downstairs unit which will be occupied by one retired person.
Parking is ample, off-street and fenced.
There is an outdoor shower for washing off sand from the beach, etc.
Paia Bay Suites is a new vacation rental offering in one of Paia’s most desirable locations. It sits on Loio Place, a side street which is oceanside of the highway yet is just a short stroll from the heart of Paia Town. It’s a great location for guests wanting to be close to Paia Town and the ocean.
Paia Town is an eclectic town with a mix of locals, surfers, New Agers, evangelical Christians, hippies, monied people, working folks, artists, snowbirds, Buddhists, and more. It was a rough plantation town that is now transitioning into Maui’s hippest beach town destination.
The property consists of a two-story cottage on a large fenced lot close to the ocean of Paia Bay (it is not oceanfront).
(Beware of unlicensed vacation rentals. Maui County is preparing enforcement operations against unlicensed operators which may include closures with limited warning to travelers. Paia Bay Suites is fully licensed and your booking with us is secure.)
The property is owned by brother and sister Jake and Ilana Waxman. Jake and Ilana were both born and raised here on Maui and grew up on Maui's North Shore.
Alyson Hodges purchased this apartment in 1977
The property was purchased as vacant land in 1977 by Jake and Ilana's late father, Maui surfer and attorney Jonathan Waxman. Jonathan bought the lot because of its great location being so close to the shore yet an easy stroll to Paia Town. He built the house in 1987.
Paia Bay Suites is situated on Loio Place, one of the very few roads in Paia Town that are ocean side of the main road (Hana Hwy). The Paia Bay Suites are on an 8,000 square foot fenced lot which provides plenty of off street fenced parking and a very large yard.
The Paia Bay Suites are in a great location that is easy walking distance to the beaches of Paia and just a short stroll from Paia Town's shopping and dining.
Yet the property is tucked away from the bustle of Paia Town and has a large, green yard sheltered by shade and shower trees. It's a great place to come back to after a day of being in the ocean or exploring Maui. You can take a shower to wash off the salt and then walk to Paia Town for dinner and stroll home to watch the stars and the ocean from the deck.
Please note that Paia Bay Suites is NOT oceanfront. It is separated from the Paia Bay shoreline by a 6' wall. This is a benefit that is obvious to locals and becomes more apparent the more time one spends in Paia as it keeps the property secluded from the busy Paia Bay beach scene. Our guests do what almost all the Paia locals do anyway: stroll over to the beach.
A gem of a place, truly enjoyed our stay. Kitchen was put to good use, well appointed, tank you (real sugar preferred). Bathroom is a class act, great toiletries for use (we forgot some). We found the location very convenient as we walked everywhere. We'll look forward to another visit.
The location of this house is perfect. The view is perfect. You are within walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shops. Aly was great to work with. I would highly recommend anyone coming to Paia stay here!
We really enjoyed our stay at Paia Suites. The location is ideal and the house had everything we needed. Very clean! Alyson was very accommodating and quick to respond. I would recommend this place to any couple as it is the perfect size for 2! Pomegranate mojitos at Flatbread Company, sangria at Cafe Des Amis, fish and chips at Paia Fish Co. -- all highly recommended!
Our visit was excellent and the property was exactly as advertised. Wonderful location and quiet dead-end street. Hassle free, very clean and updated. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great get-away! Thanks!!
The house was just as it says it is, and Allyson was really helpful. Lovely views, clean and tidy, and a short walk to the shops and the beach. We recommend the Paia Bay Cafe for good cappuccino and breakfast, and the whole food shop is of course fantastic.
It's the rainy side of the island, but that made it cooler and comfortable in the evening for a good sleep, and on the rainy day we simply drove over to southwest Maui where it is nearly always sunny.
Handy to have a car on a rainy day, as nothing is really that far away. We drove over to jump off "Black Rock" - parking is free in Whaler's Village shopping centre if you buy $20 worth of anything there - which is pretty easy to do - some goggles and sunscreen did it for us. On another day we drove out to the east side by Hana and went to swim and cliff-jump at the "Venus Pool" (there is a handy Maui guidebook in the closet!). Kihei was pretty boring and Lahaina really busy, both of which make Paia seem like a lovely little town.
We'd stay there again, it was a good find.
This place is an absolute dream. From the front room, you get stunning views of Paia Bay all day long, and you are just a short stroll to the center of Paia town with all its shops and restaurants. Walk the other way, and you'll find a lovely cliff walk where you can watch the sunset. Alyson and Marc are gracious hosts and very responsive to any request or questions you might have. We couldn't have asked for a more restful place to stay on our vacation.
This vacation rental was just what we were looking for since we like quieter places away from touristy crowded locations. The upstairs cottage was perfect for a couple, full of light, and a beautiful view from the deck. It was an easy walk to town to shop, pick up groceries at Mana Foods, or have dinner. An added treat was that it was on a quiet dead end street with a path at end that took you out to the craggy shoreline to watch sunset and waves crashing on the rocks. Paia town can be bustling during the day, but the shops and restaurants close up early; your only choice for night life is Charlie's, which usually has some form of entertainment and draws quite an eclectic crowd.
My only suggestions to Alyson are to fix the screen door, put comfortable chairs and table on the upstairs deck since the view there is so, and mention in amenities that there is no TV. Alyson was very accommodating to us when I realized that we didn't have a TV.
I highly recommend this cottage to those of you who want to stay on the quieter side of the island; you won't be disappointed.
Paia Bay Suites is located a few minutes' stroll from the heart of Paia Town yet is tucked away on Loio Place, a side street 50 feet from the ocean of Paia Bay**.
Paia Town is Maui's North Shore beach, surf and boutique shopping town. There are unique shops, a variety of great dining, Maui's best (and cheapest) health food store, and surf stores.
Paia is inhabited by an eclectic mix of local families descended from the plantation days, hippies from the 1970s, working people, monied retirees, hardcore big wave surfers, windsurfers, kiteboarders, farmers, New Age adherents and mystics, and evangelical Christians and energetic entrepreneurs.
The North Shore has great surfing, snorkeling, diving and beaches for swimming and walking. In the summertime the waves are small and the water clear. In the winter, massive swells roll across thousands of miles of open Pacific Ocean and make landfall all across the North Shore resulting in worldclass surfing, windsurfing and kiteboarding. Paia is 15 minutes from the renowned Jaws surfbreak where the world's best tow-in surfers compete while helicopters film from above.
** Please note: Loio Place is on a rocky promontory which keeps it secure from ocean waves. All of the vacation rentals on Loio Place use Paia Bay as the nearest beach because the shoreline along Loio Place is rocky. Paia Bay Suites has a fantastic view of Paia Bay and the surfers but is not oceanfront.
