About Ali McDowell

We were recently introduced to the Grand Lake area and fell in love with it. So we decided to pursue the dream of owning our own cabin and making it available for others to rent. We are an extended family ownership from the Northern Colorado area. The peaceful, serene location of this cabin is what we have fallen in love with.

Ali McDowell purchased this cabin in 2013

Excellent place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin has everything you could want and more! The cabin is very well equipped, clean and comfortable! The location is beautiful and close to many activities. We had a wonderful week and enjoyed watching the moose, elk, pelicans, hummingbirds, ducklings, etc. right from the deck. There are many hikes for varying abilities available very close by. The waterfalls this time of year from the snow melt were beautiful. The cabin is also within easy walking distance of the Colorado River. The lake is a perfect size for enjoying a leisurely canoe or paddle boat ride. We enjoyed nice dinners at the Grand Lake Lodge (beautiful lake views from the porch) and Mustachios on the Lake (heading towards Granby). The breakfast buffet on the weekends at Fat Cat is wonderful too! The owners are great to work with and we would definitely return to this cabin. Highly recommend this place!

excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Sun Valley Lake May29-June3. There were 7 adults and 3 children. ages ranged from 10 months to 69 years old. The cabin itself is clean. the Linens are very nice. The beds were overall pretty comfortable. The location was beautiful. Only steps away from the water. It is located on a private lake and you do not need a fishing license to fish. Unfortunately, we did not have any bites or catch any fish the days we were there. They also had bikes, paddle boat, canoe (although there was a small leak so we came back quickly), outdoor and indoor games. There is cable and internet available, although we were going more for the nature. It was very convenient to stables for horseback riding. The entrance to RMNP was very close as well. We were able to walk to the Colorado river and were at the being of some trails. We saw plenty of Moose, Elk and Deer. Overall, I would definitely recommend this cabin. We are hoping to come back next year! The owner is very easy to work with as well. We are hoping to come back and visit soon!

We rented this cabin for a women's retreat. It was perfect. Comfortable rooms. Nicely remodeled kitchen and baths. Will consider it for next year.

Lovely cozy cabin in great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend family getaway in Sun Valley Ranch Estates. It was great to get away from the city and see a new area. At this time of year, town was pretty quiet, as the winter activities were already closed for the season and the warm weather activities were not up and running yet with so much snow and ice still around but it was still fun to visit. We walked along the lake, visited several shops and restaurants in town, stopped by the visitor center at Rocky Mountain National Park, and had a movie night in front of the very easy to use wood burning fireplace. My kids loved the sleeping lofts (though at 4 and 7 I didn't let them sleep up there, they still roll around a lot in their sleep!) We very much hope to come back in the summer for some boating, fishing, and horseback riding!

Wonderful Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 8 friends and had a wonderful time out there. Cabin is fully equipped and has all possible kitchen/bedding stuffs. Just get your basic grocery and you are good to start your stay. Cabin is a right blend of rustic and comfort.

Owner is flexible and understanding enough as we required to change our booking on the day before of our arrival and she happily agreed to our last minute day cancellation. She assisted us well for internet/music system etc.

We did snowmobiling through Grand Adventure and Tubing Winter park is close by and did snow activities. I am pretty sure it will be really good in summer and would definitely like to visit again.

Exceptional Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Imagine a place that steps back in time but offers the convenience of todays treasures. This is what Cabin #4 provided us at Thanksgiving. We LOVED the idea of an "Old Fashion" Thanksgiving and that is exactly what we got plus more. The beds were comfortable, clean and the cabin was spacious. The deck, even tho we couldn't use it because of the snow, was large with wonderful festive lights. WE WILL BE BACK TO ENJOY SUMMER AT THE CABIN! Thanks for helping us create memories!
