Anand Villa is set in a private tropical paradise. It is privately owned and not located in a complex. It is surrounded by tropical vegetation. It nestles into a cashew covered hillside which is visited by colourful tropical birds, with eagles and kites flying high overhead. A white sand, coconut palm fringed beach is a leisurely 5 min stroll [600m]. This is a quiet beach with a row of small shops and restaurants behind it. There is also a good choice of dining options.
Anand is our spacious, private family villa [300m2], with a large private pool which includes a shallow pool specially for children to play in.
The communal areas include a 11m long hall with large windows at either end allowing a gentle sea breeze to cool the room, giving a lovely ambiance. This is open plan with a fine, polished black granite, dining table seating 8, at one end and comfortable sitting area at the other end.
The large master suite has a king size four-poster bed, bathroom; and double doors opening out to a large veranda with a relaxing swinging chair and private access to the pool. There are 3 further bedrooms all with king size beds, wetrooms and solar heated water. All bedrooms have AC. The villa has balconies, verandas and shaded outside areas which are ideal for quiet relaxation [yoga, reading, bird watching]. Meals can be taken outside by the pool and there is a a barbecue.
The villa has been built and furnished to reflect ECO sustainable principles. We try to support the local economy by using cane furniture made in this area. We use Indian fabrics, and our paintings and silk hangings have all been painted locally.. We only employ local people to look after the villa
Sangita our housekeeper comes in every day to ensure that you can relax and enjoy your holiday. She is also happy to cook breakfast (NB she makes extremely good pancakes). Her husband Shri Kant looks after the pool and gardens.
A friendly local taxi driver is always available; at very reasonable cost.
The property is true to the website description, but photos cannot convey the full elegance and spaciousness of this delightful Villa, nor the easy, friendly atmosphere created by Jon and Alison, and their cook and houskeeper, Sangita.
The villa is clean, stylish and practical. The generously wide all-round verandah and versatile light-weight furniture allow for relaxation or exercise in shade or sun at any time of day. The swimming pool, with a shallow inset for children, features shaded areas amongst the exotic plants- I was thrilled to see bananas and mangoes growing! Inside, the tropical heat is off-set by cool marble, granite and tiling, plus controllable fans in every room. The friendly dogs live outside and work to safeguard visitors from less welcome wildlife- they will catch snakes and scare off monkeys- most reassuring!
Anand Villa overlooks a quiet road, used by local pedestrians as much as vehicles, leading to the small but thriving village of Mandrem and the slightly more tourist orientated 'beach village'. Between them, all needs are met, from money exchange, sim cards and eye tests (new glasses at bargain prices!) to food and drink from a variety of venues. I particularly enjoyed a late breakfast at 'The River Cat' Hotel with its peaceful riverside garden. Strolling on to the beach, the quiet shady cocktail bar cafes by the Arabian sea open late into the evening. All just a 10 minute walk away. For a more active scene, a few miles further up the coast, there's live music at The Laughing Buddha and in other venues in Arambol.
Jon and Alison are most welcoming and informative, helping their guests to settle in smoothly and enjoy their stay to the maximum. They are respected members of the community and can recommend reliable taxi drivers, or popular 2-wheeler hire firms. With sensitivity and discretion they are willing to advise on anything within their expertise, from mosquito repellant to sites of historical interest. I had a great day out, across the river by ferry to Reddifort in the next-door state of Maharastra. This is a huge abandoned ancient fort, used by the British for a while, and now recognised as being worthy of conservation with its magnificent elephant gates and views of the coast from the battlements. After the humidity of the jungle heat, it was good to cool off in the lagoon below before returning to 'Blissful Home'.
I have told several friends about this place and I'll be going back just as soon as I can!
The villa is bigger and more spacious than appeared on line.
Good layout with cool pool area and friendly dogs.
Everywhere swept and cleaned daily.
Owners very helpful and quick to respond to any queries.
Have recommended to friends who have booked
We would definitely book in future
We had a wonderful 2 weeks break at Anand villa.
The booking was a doodle and Allison could not have been more helpful.
On our arrival, we found place exactly how we imagined it. House keeper Sangita was the real jewel. She came up with wonderful gastronomic delights for meals, while keeping the place clean.
Jon is a celebrity in the area and is well liked by every one. He was on hand to offer us his advise on local food joints, which we really enjoyed. Jon is a great musician too and we loved the evenings we spent listening to live music at Lockie Cafe in Arambol, a few kilometre up the road.
There is an army of 4 dogs keeping the place secured. Very well behaved and well trained.
Would definitely return again and again to relax and enjoy !
Keep it up Jon + team, best wishes!
A tropical time in the sun at Anand Villa. I had use of a pool which was very refeshing. Lovely food was cooked by Sangita the housekeeper. My room had an en-suite with water heated by the sun and the fresh well water was delicious. Very Eco friendly. The village and beach were close by and within easy walking distance. The village provided many choices of food at all times of the day. The pictures show a true reprosentation of the villa and I recommend at least 2 weeks to get away from the cold winter in UK. This was a great winter pick me up for me. Saving up to visit again.
Thank you Alison and Jon. You are always so welcoming. This was our third visit and we are already counting the days until next time.
Anand Villa was pristine and glowing as always. Sangita truely is a treasure, her meals positively sublime!
Lots of great restaurants nearby overlooking the fabulous beach, perfect for a sundowner, that is if you can actually extract yourself from the poolside and Sangita's home cooking.
We carry with us perfect memories of relaxing on the sunbeds devouring a papaya fresh from your garden.
All in all a great place which we have no hesitation in recommending, in fact we have friends coming to join us next season.
My holiday at Anand Villa Mandrem Goa was absolutly georgous. I came with my pregnant daughter her partner and their small child, my granddaughter (18 months old). It was a wonderful safe relaxing place to stay .It really is set in a tropical paradise. The villa is beautiful cool light and airy. it was a pleasure to arrive here after our long journey, our hosts were welcoming warm friendly and helpful. Sangita, the lovely housekeeper cleans every day and really looked after us. the pool is large clean and beautiful great for cooling off day or night with a childrens pool which my granddaughter loved and had great fun in. the villa is in a quiet location 10mins walk from mandrem beach . It has been a real joy to stay here with my family. I would highly recommend it.
Anand Villa is set in a quiet rural location near the glorious, palm fringed, white sands of Mandrem beach. Mandrem Beach is still unspoilt , with a chilled, relaxed ambiance, and charming multi-cuisine restaurants. Mandrem Village Market has local shops which supply all the provisions you might need. ATMs available. Doctor and chemists. The beach and village are just a leisurely 10 min stroll from Anand Villa.
This area of north Goa is the most favoured by experienced Goaphiles who appreciate the rich tropical vegetation and wild-life next to miles of white sand beaches; stretching from Morjim up to Teracol. The quiet beach is very popular for families with young children.
The vibrant fishing village of Arambol, is 4 miles north - a favoured over-wintering spot for musicians, dancers and artists of all varieties - which is well known for its live music scene, and artisan's shops from all over India. This is a place that any fan of Glastonbury should visit.
Southern Maharastra is just 8 miles north with the unspoilt long white sands of Paradise Beach and the impressive crumbling Mogal ruins of Reddi Fort, rising, Kipling-like from the jungle.
Anjuna's famous flee market is 8 miles south with its fabulous, colourful array of authentic craftwork, jewelry and clothes. Traders come from Kasmir, Tibet, Rahjastan, and many other areas, to display their wares in the shady palms next to Anjuna's scenic beach.
Other Activities: Yoga schools, Thai Chi, Massage, Asian Dance classes, Dolphin watching, Bird watching, Kite surfing, Paragliding
