Perfect for a rustic vacation away from the stress of daily life, this Rhododendron riverfront cottage on the Sandy River is an amazing place to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.
Small and quiet Rhododendron, Oregon, is located between Sandy and Mt. Hood (about 20 minutes from each), so between the river, the forests, and the mountain, you will have no shortage of wilderness to appreciate! This particular home is located at the end of the street in a very quiet, family neighborhood, and a short path in the backyard leads directly to the beautiful Sandy River.
The house itself was recently remodeled and has a comfortable, cabin-theme decor with an efficient floor plan and minimal electronic distractions. The living room has plenty of seating for a small family to sit around the gas fireplace and play one of the board games provided. WiFi and a selection of books are also available, so you won't even notice the lack of a TV! In the full kitchen you will find gorgeous tile countertops and all the major appliances and everything you will need to cook a meal for yourself and your guests.
Downstairs also has a full bathroom, washer and dryer, and a sofa in the living room that can fold out to a bed at night. Upstairs there is a loft area and a daybed with a trundle bed, plus the master bedroom which features a half-bathroom and a king-size bed. With all the sleeping spaces packed into this home, up to six people (plus two 20-pound or less dogs, though a nightly fee per dog and minimum fee per stay will apply) can sleep comfortably! And right out the back door is a nice deck and a fire pit, plus the path that will lead you a short way to the river.
This home has easy access to many outdoor activities: wading, exploring, or fishing in the river is just steps away, hiking and biking trails in the forest are 3 miles down the road, golfing and restaurants in Welches are 2 miles away, and Mt. Hood's Timberline Lodge is just 20 miles east. The rustic cottage would be a perfect place to spend a few days enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, whether you venture to the mountain or stay in the comfort of your vacation home.

Vacasa - Vacation Rentals Made Easy:
Professionally managed and cleaned homes
Local assistance 24/7 for emergencies
Secure INSTANT booking
Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.
Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!
We enjoyed our stay. The location was beautiful and not too far from beautiful Mt Hood. The house was very comfortable and clean.
My husband, myself and 2 dogs stayed at this cabin for a week as we travel through the PNW. The property was cute, nicely decorated and very clean. You can tell the property was recently remodeled. The quality of the cabinets, flooring and little details like the fish handles was nicely done. It has all the essentials that you need. There isn’t a TV but we knew that prior to booking. For us we did miss it as we like to relax and watch a couple shows at the end of the night after hiking. There is a small TV upstairs with a DVD player but it was the same size as our computer monitors so we huddled around our computers and streamed Netflix. My husband and I both work remotely and had to work the entire time while there. We found the Wifi and Verizon phone service to be very good.
It is in a "neighborhood" with neighbors close but it was very quiet. We never heard a thing beside the wonderful sound of the river roaring in the backyard. Which was serene to listen to while sitting on the large deck. The lot is heavily wooded with a trail that runs next to it. Once in awhile you would see people walk on it otherwise the entire location was super quiet and peaceful. Trillium Lake and the Wildwood Recreation Area were daily favorites of ours and the dogs.
We knew the house was on the smaller side when booking but after arriving we felt that the furniture downstairs in the main living area was too big for the space and made it feel smaller than it should. There wasn’t much floor space to move around and since we lived in it during the entire day while we worked and had 2 smaller/mid-sized dogs we found this a bit challenging. We would also recommend upgrading the futon to a couch or loveseat. All the other furniture, including the bed was very nice except this. It was very uncomfortable. The upstairs bedroom was huge and beautiful. Like a previous reviewer we did find the wood stairs to be a bit steep and slippery for our elderly dog. We had this issue recently at a previous cabin and found that laying cabinet grip liner down over each step really helps. It doesn’t damage or stick to the stairs but the grip gives her the confidence to go up and down with ease.
Overall the cabin is very nice and the Mt Hood area is beautiful! Because we were working a normal work week from the property it may have been a bit small for our specific situation but would recommend to others.
This is a pretty, tastefully decorated, very quiet, and comfortable little house about an hour or so east of Portland. Its yard stretches down to the Sandy River and, like all homes in that area (the "Mount Hood Villages"--Rhododendron, Welches, etc.), in early morning and dusky evening, one is likely to see wildlife--usually deer or small mammals--and many birds wandering past. or in, the yard.
The bedroom, upstairs, is big, with large closet and a beautiful balcony looking out on the yard and the riverside; there is a deck also next to the livingroom, with steps down to the yard and river.
The grocery, library, and post office nearby in Welches, and a few restaurants along Highway 26 nearby, are all an easy drive away.
This was a great place to stay the few days my place in Portland was getting repairs, turning a stressful necessity into a wonderful, relaxing, lovely vacation with, even, a vista of deer crossing the yard in the dawnrise.
It was a wonderful process and timely communications. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely think about staying here again! Had a fabulous weekend away.
This house is very quiet, comfortable, and relaxing--a true vacation spot. The whole property indeed makes one remember how fine living in the country is. Definitely recommended.
