About Barry and Nancy Kapplan
I am originally from Philadelphia, PA and Nancy is from New Britain, CT. We were a career Regular US Army family, retiring from federal service in 1995. I was a Combat Arms Officer and Nancy was a Department of the Army Civilian Nurse (ICU specialty). Our four children were all born in US Army hospitals (William Beaumont in El Paso, TX; Walter Reed in DC; and the 97th US General in Frankfurt, Federal Republic of Germany). Now we are farmers, how about that. We are currently raising heritage breed livestock, producing forestry products, and growing berries, fruits, and old together....
Barry and Nancy Kapplan purchased this Farmhouse in 1997
Why Barry and Nancy Kapplan chose Union
We returned to Connecticut in 1995 and found this property of 37 wooded acres, of which 30 acres was a State Certified forest. Local people thought we would subdivide it into small building lots. Fooled them.... we returned the parcel to a working farm, just as it had been from 1730 to 1975. Bush Meadow Brook originates here on the property and its waters run to the Thames River, then into Long Island Sound near New London and Groton, CT. That is why we named this sanctuary: Bush Meadow Farm.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Peaceful, relaxing, tranquil, and re-energizing are the terms used about our farm. Golden location in the middle of several major metro areas. The property is in a well known tourism area called both the "Quiet Corner" and the "Last Green Valley" in Connecticut's "Mystic Country" tourism district. Less than one mile from Interstate 84, we are located on a scenic state road, used by many cyclists and antique auto-clubs. Union, CT is one of (or is) the least populated town in Connecticut. Our town is 29 sq. miles with no stop lights, fast food, shopping malls, or "modern distractions". Miles of trails here on the farm for hiking, snowshoeing, mountain biking, riding your horse, or more. Wildlife is abundant here with wild turkey, rabbit, deer, a rare moose or two, owls, red tailed hawks, ducks, and song birds.

This apartment is great. Private and very comfortable. Nice outdoor space and fire pit. The eggs and other goodies where much appreciated.
Fun for all ages
Very clean, well stocked rooms, comfortable beds, all members of our party from age 5-39 enjoyed time on the farm.
Short stay (unfortunately)
Very impressed, they supply a lot that others do not....linens, snacks, a high chair, children’s toys and games....the list is extensive. Also all rooms are large, even the bathroom, I think a wheelchair could get around easily without any issues. My grandson enjoyed the animals (as I knew he would). Would love to go back when everyone is healthier and try again😃👍🏻
Everything you need and more!
If you would want it in your home, Nancy and Barry have already thought of it. Their home is comfortable and the rooms are generously sized. You almost don't need to bring food-they provided a generous fruit basket, fresh eggs, butter, bread, orange juice, coffee, tea, water, cereal, and even chips. There's a lovely firepit and the grounds are nice. You even have a washer and dryer. I can't imagine a more enjoyable place to spend time. Thanks for having us.
Good Afternoon Christie,
Thank you for review and your thoughtful comments. Looking forward to seeing you and the ladies for the September Brimfield. Hope you are all having an enjoyable summer.

Beautiful property, beautiful people. What else is there to say?
Our family of three and our friends family of five, plus our dog, stayed at the farm for my wife’s birthday. When we arrived, we found a charming home, and where greeted by the kindest people. There were flowers and balloons for my wife, farm fresh eggs, and plenty of room for all of us. In the morning, Barry took the time to educate all who wanted about the property and the animals. We will definitely be heading back. It is impossible to summarize what an amazing weekend we had. We highly recommend this property for a quiet getaway.
Paul, It was a pleasure hosting you and your family. Barry and I love to share our beautiful property. It was a joy to see you and your family enjoying the little bit of snow we had. We look forward to seeing you and your family on a future visit.
