Jay and I moved from Washington DC in 2006 to St. Petersburg to be near aging family members. Jay is a retired military officer; we both come from long-time careers from both overseas and in Washington DC. We now own and operate our own business as senior move managers where we help the elder population relocate. We've both served on our neighborhood association board--Jay most recently as the association president. We are very active in the St. Petersburg community; are members of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, and the Women's Chamber of Commerce, the downtown Episcopal Cathedral, and enjoy all that St. Petersburg has to offer.
Barbara Marshall purchased this studio in 2007
We chose Historic Old Northeast in 2007 to live because of its eclectic charm and history and location to so many great places all within walking distance--marinas, boat ramps, live theater, yacht club, the renown Vinoy Hotel and Resort, Saturday morning market, many restaurants and nightlife venues, and museums, and sports venues like Tropicana Field where the Tampa Bay Rays play. This neighborhood is neighbor-friendly and family-friendly. It's very active and social. Downtown St. Petersburg has its 'First Friday' which is a free outdoor concert gathering. There are many concerts held in the nearby parks to include live musicians, food and art festivals and so many more.
We bought our home in 2007 because of its old historic charm (1925) with its front porch swing, brick patio, and the detached guest studio which was recently converted (October 2013) from private use to a vacation home to travelers and business professionals to St. Petersburg. The Palm Suite Retreat is immaculate, nicely furnished with great comfort and quality in mind. The kitchen offers a large size wall mounted microwave, 4 burner stove, large refrigerator, new kitchenware chosen to match the Palm Suite Retreat theme of the studio. The owners live in the main house on the property and can provide any information needed about activities and events in St. Petersburg.
Awesome place to stay - walking distance to downtown and Tampa bay. Historic neighborhood with brick roads, well maintained homes and friendly people. The studio is appointed nicely with anything you will need to be comfortable and convenient. Barbara is ready to help with anything else you need. When I told her we would BBQ dinner, she had it set up perfectly- lighting, music water fountain and BBQ tools ready to go. We used the futon for my college student and it was perfect. Everything is close, but you feel secluded in this perfect location.
The Palm Suite Retreat was a fantastic place to stay. Walking distance to the parks on Tampa Bay, and all the great shops and restaurants in downtown St. Pete.
Jay and Barb are very accommodating and helpful. The Suite was just the right size and great interior design for my family.
Will definitely be back!!
Thanks Jay and Barb.
This was a cozy and comfortable space located in the lovely historic northeast neighborhood of St. Petersburg. The airy upper apartment included all amenities for our extended stay. Our hosts, Barbara and Jay were warm and welcoming, and had great suggestions for the local restaurants and events. Both the downtown and the waterfront were easy to get to via a pleasant stroll gazing at all the great architectural vernacular of Floridian homes. My husband and I spent relaxing mornings sipping our coffee in the private garden. We will definitely revisit this property.
This property is as advertised. We really valued the proximity to downtown and the ability to walk a short distance to the waterfront, the parks and the restaurants and all that Beach Drive and Central Avenue offer. Thank you Barbara and Jay for being welcoming and helpful with your recommendations too.
Amen to all of the positive comments in other reviews. We enjoyed the quiet, private setting, and still it was convenient to everything we were looking for. Biking on quiet streets with well marked bike paths, walks in nearby parkland by the bay or through the convenient city center and 1.5 miles from an active Tai Chi club, all contributed to 'the perfect fit'. The private patio was a great addition to our living space. Everything worked as expected in the spacious, well provisioned, very clean apartment. Since we were new to that part of Florida, Barbara and Jay were most helpful in offering good advice to help us familiarize. Having visited other parts of Florida in years past, we are satisfied that Saint Petersburg is an ideal sized city, with everything we are looking for, including more favourable weather than we have experienced in other locations. We will return!
I stayed in this studio for 12 days in early January 2015. It was perfect! The studio is very modern with a lovely little kitchenette - all very clean. It is incredibly convenient to the waterfront, museums and restaurants. I was able to walk everywhere I needed to go. There is also a pool and a delightful garden area. I would definitely stay here again. GM
Minutes from your door--whether walking, biking, driving or taking a horse-drawn carriage--the country's only Salvador Dali Museum, The Chihuly Collection, Museum of Fine Arts, the Mahaffey Theater where nationally known artists perform live, along with The Florida Orchestra. The famous Downtown Trolley even offers service to the Gulf of Mexico beachfront, just 15 minutes away. The residence is located in an award-winning neighborhood--tree lined, cobbled streets.
