This is a deal considering the beautiful stretch of oceanfront land in this area.
This cottage is one of three on the estate. Please check out our comment book!!!
We keep a book in the house to capture customers comments that are made about our place and how we can improve our accommodations. It is FULL of messages just like this!
1) Susan And Andre...We had a wonderful time here! The patio overlooks the ocean and we saw whales jumping and crashing right in front of us! The cottage is located on the beautifully lush Red Road and is very convenient to the cool town of Pahoa and also a short drive to Hilo. There is an awesome black sand beach directly across from the cottage and a farmers market at the end of the road (west end I believe) that was one of my favorite activities. Local vendors, music, food, dancing - farmers market was definitely a highlight. We would absolutely stay here again.
2) Thank You so much, the past 3 nights in the cottage have been FANTASTIC! I realy look forward to coming back to visit.
3) Very nice cottage! We really enjoyed! Two thumbs up! We will recommend this place for sure!
The Whale House is located in one of the most beautiful places on earth - Kehena Beach, on The Big Island of Hawaii.
Our spacious cottage is one of the closest cottages to Kehena Beach on Kalapana-Kapoho Rd (aka) State HWY 137.. Our cottage also has a washer & dryer, FREE Super fast WI-FI internet, land line w/ free long distance, Direct TV, flat screen TV, wood/tile floors, outdoor rock BBQ and typical household amenities that give you the feeling that 'you are at home'. The Hawaiian rock barbecue is situated in our tropical garden w/ ocean view. It doesn't get much better than this.
It also has an ocean view from every room in the house, including the bathroom.
If you are interested in Yoga, we are situated in between two world famous Yoga Centers located here on 'The Red Road'.
Many people come to Hawaii to visit Volcano National Park - home of Kilauea and the periodic lava flows just a short distance from us. There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, geothermically heated ponds, snorkeling, whale watching w/ dolphins that migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters from Alaska. You can often see them from our lanai off our beautiful coast - in the Kehena Beach area. Many of my tenants have told us that they were able to swim w/ the dolphins and you can too!
This is the place for water lovers - you should see the spectacular ocean view & sunrise over the south pacific from our lanai - where you may want to eat your breakfast!!
Also, did you know that the best and safest snorkeling area is just down the road in the Kapoho Tide pools? You can easily navigate all of these places from the cottage in Kehena Beach, it has come to be a very popular spot 'right in the center of all of these attractions'.
For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out 'Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar' if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time.
The Whale House is located in beautiful Kehena Beach - across the street from the Kehena Beach view point - on the Hilo side of the Big Island of Hawaii.
It is also just a short walk across the street from the world famous Kehena Black Sand Beach.
Pohoiki Point and the famous Kapoho snorkeling waters are also near by and remain popular snorkeling, surfing and swimming areas. Compare our rates to those in Kapoho - you will love our place.
Kilauea Volcano is just a 45-60 minute drive where you can walk through Thurstons Lava Tube and look in to Kilauea Caldera.
You are also close to the lava viewing area, tide pools, snorkeling, fishing areas, Akaka, Kahuna and Rainbow Falls, Boiling Pots, hiking, Farmers Market (1/2 block away), Space Community Arts Center, Keck Observatory, Kilauea , Uncles Bamboo Tiki Bar w/ live music, cafes, food markets, Volcanoes Nat'l Park and so much more - are just 10-45 minutes away.
My mission is to make sure that you have what you need to make your visit a happy, and memorable experience ! This is also a great place to relax and enjoy nature. Many people come to Kehena Beach to 'get away from it all and breath clean air, eat great food, soak up the sunshine, exercise, commune with nature, and meet some wonderful people. So come and find out 'what the aloha spirit really is'. We invite you to come truly is one of the most beautiful places on earth.
You will love this place - picture yourself sitting on the lanai w/ the sound of waves crashing on the cliffs below while gazing at the South Pacific through ocean front coconut trees that are swaying w/ the Hawaiian trade winds. This is truly the Hawaii that you dream about. Call Andre to inquire. (View from this cottage is shown in our pictures)
NOTE: We also have a special provision for weddings. Pastor Thomas Monago is our wedding officiant who will perform your wedding at the beach or local park.
This is also the perfect 'honeymoon suite' where you can actually sit on your lanai and see whales and dolphins off with the boats and cruise ships that cruise by.
We have lived in Hawaii for about 12 years and can't think of living anywhere else. We love the slow paced lifestyle and 'the aloha spirit'.
Andre and Susan purchased this cottage in 2012
This property has the cutest cottages and the most fantastic view , you can only dream about. It truly gives you the 'Hawaiian view' that you have always wanted to see - coconut tress blowing w/ the trade winds against a blue pacific ocean back drop.
Just a walk across the street to the Kehena Beach View Point and beach.
Also, it is right in the center of all the popular visiting sites (Kehena Beach, the active lava flow in Kalapana, Ahalanue warm pond, Kaimu, Pohoiki surf spot, Lava Tree State Park, Kapoho Tide Pools, and Volcanoes Nat'l Park.
It would have been more helpful to know that Hwy 137 was the same as your physical address on Kalapana-Kapoho Road.
It's very convenient to stay there and take the Lava Boat Tour which is Hwy 137 in opposite direction. Magnificant experience!
There is a little ant problem. But that is probably found most everywhere on the island.
We would recommend this place in a heartbeat. Thank you.
This was the perfect home for a relaxing vacation on the Big Island. Clean & comfortable - so close to our favorite activities. Uncle Roberts Awa Bar, Kehena Beach right across the street, Pahoa a short drive. Andre met us and explained everything right down to the T. V. operation. Thought was put into making the guests feel at home. If I could give it more stars I would. I highly recommend the lovely place and will definitely return.
What an amazing property with amazing caretakers. Andre, Susan and Miguel are there to attend to what ever needs attending to. This property is in a location that gives you quick access to every conceivable activity you could think of. What an island! The cottage is in a quiet location, dark and secluded. Listen to the waves crashing the shore all day and night.
Drive down to Uncle Roberts Awa bar on Wednesdays, spend the $3 to park on the lava, and partake in the revelry similar to an east coast kitchen party, with food and drink and music all around.
Rent your Jeep and drive to volcanoes national park, drive up Mauna Loa or to the visitors station on Mauna Kea, the Macadamia plantation or visit the sites and museums in Hilo, or even Akaka and Rainbow falls. All these are within an hours drive. Take the drive up Hwy 11 to Captain Cook and take in the Greenwell Coffee Farm tour and taste the Portuguese Stone oven bread every Thursday at 12:30.
We love this island, and we love this cottage. We can't say enough about it and our stay. We will definitely be back, hopefully sooner than later. Highly recommended. Excellent value for what you are getting.
And to a fellow canuck, thanks again Andre.
This was a very nice place. Stayed here for several day to explore this side of the island and visit volcano national park. Hilo is not that far. This is a more remote area away from a lot of the hustle and bustle of the larger cities and touristy areas. Very peaceful.
We did notice that the other units were being rented for just a night or two as people drove through on their way to their next adventure , the price is incredibly low.
I would recommend staying here, and if the place had air conditioning or a screen door for the deck I would have given it five stars. It was hot and humid, so the choice was heat or mosquitos. All of the window did have screens but it would have been nice to leave the door to the deck open for more of the nice ocean breeze.
The cottage is conveniently up the hill from Kehena beach. It is a nice scenic drive to get to Kapoho tide pools or Pahoa or Volcano national park. You are in the wonderful rain forest of the Puna district. The amenities are basic but they do the trick. Andre received our phone call and had the cabin open for us when we arrived.
We were pleased with everything: the property, the cottage, the short walk to the water, the palms, the nearby attractions, and especially the helpfulness of the owners. The cottage is basic, but roomy & very well-equipped for folks like us who truly prefer to cook our own meals. Two things that I will advise future guests about: (1) there are resident frogs that LOVE to sing well into the late night hours and (2) Kehena Beach, while lovely, is a fairly good climb down to shore level, and then you discover it's a "clothing optional" beach. This was not unpleasant, just very surprising as we took the bottom turn! My best conversation with Andre took place in the dark at roadside as he waited to guide in a lost guest. That's pretty good service! Thanks to Miguel, too; you patiently answered all our questions about the area so we were better able to plan for the next day's adventure. You can't go wrong exploring here; either direction is a fun drive and stunningly beautiful.
Kehena Beach is just a walk across the street.
This black sand beach is loved by many because it is unlike many beachs.
At this beach - you can swim with Dolphins that are just off shore and you don't need to go out in a boat to see or swim with them.
It's my understand that there are two groups of very friendly dolphins. A tenant recently told me that she swam with about 40 dolphins - just off shore. They are here all year long.
Whales are often seen just off shore and they can be seen from our cottages or off the coast during winter months. You can also hear the whales communicating w/ each other as well...and you don't need to be on a boat.
