From this nearby holiday complex, a bridge leads over a passing stream to the promenade of Porlezza where cafés, restaurants and ice cream parlours can be enjoyed. The main lake road with frequent bus route and ferry stop can also be found.
We enjoyed our stay in the apartment. It is spacious, comfortable and the great, panoramic view from the front window over the lake (and down onto the bars!) changes with the light and the weather. The location in the centre of Porlezza is perfect and the town is not overrun by the numbers of tourists found in the resorts on Lake Como. There are many comfortable bars and cafes, though we did not find a good restaurant. We found the bus transport to Lake Como to be frequent and easy to use. Swimming in lake is good and the water is much warmer than in Scotland!
First of all let me say booking with you was very easy and you delievered on all fronts. Made the whole process very simple and easy to follow with very clear instructions on how to get there including maps and photos.
The apartment was beautiful and the view from every window was breathtaking. It was efficent and clean. The kitchen was the perfect place for us to prepare a "home cooked meal" with all the local treasures. The cafe below the apartment served coffee and pastries to die for. Also we tried all three gellato shops which were litterally within feet of our front door.
Since there were six of us traveling together I asked the others what I should write in this review. Everyone was in agreement on all of the things mentioned above. The two negatives we had were the HARD beds and loud traffic from below. Everyone agreed that the beds were similair to sleeping on a box spring or maybe the floor. We almost thought part of the bed was missing like perhaps there was a feather bed that had been removed. Please note we are not the kind of people who usually complain and yet they were so uncomfortable none of us had a good nights rest. Our experience would have been 100 percent improved if the beds were better. Secondly the traffic we are not from the country and are used to street traffic but this was loud. Also, it was quite warm while we were there and needed to have the windows open for breeze since there were no fans or AC. (The bedroom at the back of the apartment did not have the noise of traffic).
Overall our experience was terrific and would encourage anyone to book this property. The location was great if you want to explore the areas of Lugano and Lake Como. We now call that area alittle piece of Heaven.
From the property the local amenities and activities of Porlezza are at your disposal, from Boutique shops, Cafes and Gelaterias to Horesriding, Kayaking and Casino nights, the town and its close location to Lugano and Lake Como make it a great location to explore from!
Porlezza is just over the mountain from Menaggio on Lake Como and on the scenic route to Lugano. Porlezza is the main town at this end of the Lake and adds an Italian flavour to a well known Swiss name!
Lake Lugano is surrounded by beautiful hills and mountains, the area experiences a climate close to that of the Mediterranean, the beautiful mountains, surrounding villages and towns together make Lake Lugano the perfect holiday destination. Some of the interesting mountain peaks to visit near Lake Lugano include Monte Bre and Monte San Salvatore, Monte Bre is the closest to Lugano and is about 925 meters high, the mountain stretches over the border of Switzerland and into Italy.
Other Activities: Float Plane/Helicopter,Funicular Railway,Public Villas & Gardens, Canoeing/Kayaking.
Golf: There are Golf clubs around Lake Como: The Cadenabbia & Menaggio Golf Club celebrating 100 years this year and is Italy's oldest golf course. Established in 1907 with 18 holes Par 70, it is located above Menaggio near Croce, in Grandola ed Uniti, approx. 20 Min. by car. Tel: +39 344 321 03. Green Fees: Weekdays Euro 55, Weekends and Holidays Euro 70 Euro; Golf Cart Rental Euro 36.
Restaurant Golf at the club serves fantastic food and is well recommended.. Guests are always welcome, please call beforehand to check course rules. Golf Club Menaggio: (Menaggio Como).
Ski: This beautiful lake region of Italy is not the best for skiing as you may imagine, despite its scenery, crisp air and near perfect visibility and mountains capped in winter snow. It does however have Skiing opportunities at local resorts for a day out.
There is a small ski area on Mt. Lema , not more than 10 km from Lugano, but you have to be lucky to have enough snow for skiing. In Ticino, the local Swiss Canton, the best places to ski are probably either San Bernardino (south of the pass of the same name) or Airolo (south of Gotthard pass). Both are reachable in about 1 hour by car across the Swiss border.
There are direct trains to Airolo as well from Lugano and hence from Italian Stations. To S. Bernardino there is only a bus connection. For more snow try Andermatt (on the north side of Gotthard pass) which has normally good snow conditions and a good choice of runs.
The closest major ski resort is Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass, which is approx.
1h20 Min by car
