A half hour south of San Francisco, and within minutes of Stanford University, Palo Alto and Silicon Valley, you will find this home tucked up and away on a private lane -- with beautiful views from it's living room, bedrooms and deck -- the essence of privacy and serenity. Designed to be one with its beautiful surroundings, the front entrance to the house opens to vaulted ceilings that frame the hills, open sky, native oak and eucalyptus trees. The living room includes a gas wood burning fireplace, comfortable seating, 55' flat screen TV, and a view that is lovely any time of year. The view extends to the master bedroom suite, with king size bed, seating area next to gas fireplace, and private bath. Sliding glass doors lead from the master bedroom to a Jacuzzi, where you can melt the day away with a glass of wine as you take in the view and wildlife. Off the well-equipped, open and ample kitchen/breakfast nook, is an office/bedroom with an oversized armchair sleeper, and separate bath. The third bedroom, en-suite, has two twin beds which can be assembled as a king if desired. It has its own private entrance, sitting area, wood-burning fireplace, desk, private patio, and floor to ceiling views of a garden, oaks and hills.
Sliding glass doors off the kitchen open to a patio with seating area, as well as lawn, flower garden and swimming pool. Wander up the steps to the Aerie, with swing, seating area and lovely view of garden and pool below, and hills beyond. A large deck off the living room includes two covered seating areas suitable for cocktails and dining.
We have lived here for 19 years as we pursued our respective careers in high tech marketing, medicine and real estate. We love our 'piece of heaven' and look forward to sharing it with you. Between us, we have family in Argentina, Europe, and closer to home in Texas and Nevada. We love to travel... We just heard about VRBO and HomeAway, and listing our home seemed like a good way both share the pleasure, have the house occupied, and support our travels.
Jan and George purchased this house in 1994
We fell in love with this property the very first time we visited it. We were bowled over by the view, the privacy and the quiet... all within minutes of our respective work locations, downtown Palo Alto, Stanford Shopping Center, and with easy access to San Francisco to the North; Silicon Valley and San Jose to the South. We did some remodeling to incorporate the beautiful outdoors and views. With all there is to do elsewhere, we often just prefer to stay home, enjoying the pool, puttering in the garden, savoring a glass of wine while reading on the deck, or napping in the hammock. When we have a rainstorm, it is utterly delightful to experience the beauty of it through the high living room windows, while enjoying a good movie in front of the cozy fireplace, with our two Russian Blues, Jake and Elwood curled up on our laps.
Without hesitation, the uniqueness of the property is the combination of secluded privacy and beautiful surroundings, with surprisingly easy access to the rich diversity of the San Francisco Bay Area. Whether you are visiting for pleasure or business, you will have the peace and quiet of a rural setting, within minutes of fine dining, Stanford University, Stanford Shopping Center, a great variety of cultural and entertainment choices, and easy day trips to wonderful destinations including San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma Valleys and the Monterey Peninsula. See the map area below for links on suggested destinations, favorite restaurants, activities, etc.
A warm welcoming house located in total tranquility in charmig Woodside. We, a family with two small children, stayed for a month and would love to come back. To drink the morning coffee sorrounded by trees and hummingbirds or to go to bed after a bath with the kids in the jacuzzi under the stars, these are precious memories we brought home. The house is spacious and fully equipped even though age left some marks on them. The house is within an hour to buzzling San Fransisco and 20 minutes to Stanford University and shopping center. Roberts market 2 km away had most of the things we needed and the bakery was a treat. It is a great area for hikes. The schoolyard 2 km away provided three great playgrounds for the kids. The owners always replied quickly when we needed them, taking care of us as with great engagement. One of the best rentals we ever had.
We had a great stay in Woodside at the George's house. The house is pretty much exactly as described and they have taken the time to explain the features of the property very clearly in a binder at the residence so there were no TV disasters! The property was clean though the cleaners missed the refrigerator. When I let the property manager know, she sent someone to handle it. She was great and the George's were very responsive to all questions we had about the trip. This property worked really well for my family of adult children and would have been even better in the summer when the pool and outdoor space could have been fully taken advantage of. We used to live just down the street and this was a nice reunion for us.
My family and I, 2 adults & 3 kids (10yrs, 7yrs, 1yr) spent a really lovely and memorable 6 nights at the George's, Woodside during late June 2015. The house is complete with everything a family would imagine to see in a house. The owners are the best in assisting through emails (response time is very quick) before our arrival making specially caring to bring the best items for our baby. We spent time enjoying the weather, the house, and the lovely swimming pool. The location is very close to Palo Alto where we were going on a daily basis for kids to attend summer camp at Standord Uni. There is a nearby supermarket (Roberts) that is very convenient for groceries. We would love to come back. Many thanks to the George family.
My family and I had a fabulous stay at the George's in Woodside! Wasn't sure if the pictures looked better than reality but it was quite the opposite. You can't capture the beauty of the area in photos. It was a great place to get back to after a busy day to just relax and really enjoy vacation. The house is lovely and the grounds are truly beautiful. Location was central and convenient to everything. Would love to return!
I stayed here with my family, from ages 10 months to 60+, for 4 weeks in August-September. We had a wonderful time! The house is spacious and well equipped with everything you need for a longer stay. It is located in a quiet neighborhood and the property is very private and peaceful. It is still close to all the sights and attractions in the Bay Area, though a car is needed. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool on hot days, and sitting in the jacuzzi gazing at the stars at night. There are several sitting areas outside for a drink, enjoying a meal or just watching the many birds that visit the property.
Jan and Ken were very helpful and easy to reach if we had questions, and truly wanted our stay to be the best possible experience. Thanks to them and their lovely home our first stay in California was an experience of a lifetime.
Wonderful spot. Home is very comfortable and the property is spectacular. The view was incredible. The owners were lovely to work with and thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable. Woodside is a charming area that is very quiet, safe and private with everything needed only a short drive away. Wished we could have stayed longer and just enjoyed the property with its lovely surroundings and pool.

Woodside is an exclusive, small village in a beautiful, secluded wooded setting, situated within 15 minutes of Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford Shopping Center, the lovely town of Palo Alto, and the Venture Capital corridor on Sandhill Road. It is a very well situated launching point to many of Northern California's wonderful treasures. It is 1.2 miles from Highway 280, providing access north to San Francisco, 33 miles away, and south to Silicon Valley and San Jose, respectively 15 minutes and 30 minutes away, depending on traffic. Several wineries are 15-20 minutes away, and the coast and town of Half Moon Bay is just a 35 minute drive west over the hills.
Less than two hours South is the Monterey Peninsula, highly recommended for its scenery, the one of a kind Monterey Bay Aquarium, Hemingway's Cannery Row, great restaurants, the 17-mile drive, the lovely, picturesque town of Carmel, and the rugged coast of Big Sur.
Less than two hours to the North is every wine lover's not-to-be-missed destination of Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Blessed with gorgeous weather any time of year, it's a great place to pick up the makings for a picnic, and find lovely spots in which to enjoy it -- between wine tastings.
