About Mari Franco

I am an elementary school teacher and a Grandmother whose dream has always been to own a beach home. I have been blessed with realizing my dream and now I would like to share it with you. My home is immaculate, comfortable, and available to all who search for a memorable vacation.

Mari Franco purchased this house in 2001

Why Mari Franco chose Florida South Central Gulf Coast

I first visited Don Pedro island twenty years ago and immediately fell in love with the place. I live just ten miles from South Beach in Miami and still I prefer to drive 3 hours to enjoy the peace and beauty of Don Pedro island. Every time I drive my car onto the ferry, I feel as though I am vacationing on an exotic island.

What makes this house unique

8 miles of paradise (no exaggeration). There are not many beaches left in the United States where on any given day you could be on the beach and not see another person for hours. Swim, fish, snorkel, shell, or just simply read your favorite book. The five minute ferry ride transports your vehicle and passengers and it is what makes the island pristine and exclusive. Once you drive off the ferry, simply park your car under the home and relax. Put on your sandals and walk, bike, or ride a golf cart to the beach.

Absolutely AWESOME!!

  • 5 of 5

This is the cutest Sand Castle on the Island. We had the best time. Wish that we would have had more time on the Island. The home is very spacious and the owner is very responsive. Before we left I read all the reviews, tried to know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. The home is nicely decorated, the beds were extremely comfortable..with extra pillows! The Kitchen was completely stocked with everything you could possibly need. Love the bottom deck -we had plenty of room to entertain.

My recommendation for travelers: bug spray for mosquitos & sun screen. Tia Maria provides the rest!

Lovely stay on Don Pedro Island

  • 4 of 5

We came with the family (8 total) and had a lovely time on the island. You will definitely feel like you are away from the noise and craziness of city life.

The home was roomy with a living and dining room area when you first come in. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The screened terrace was nice to sit and enjoy just listening to the birds or catch a turtle crossing the street.

The kitchen had plenty of plates, cups, utensils and pots and pans so we could cook our meals.

There is a public access beach within walking distance (about 5-10 minutes). You can also rent golf carts from some of the locals on the island. There are beach chairs and beach toys in the storage container on the ground level where you park. There are also beach towels provided.

There is also a charcoal grill along with a picnic table, small bar area and another table with chairs and umbrella on a small deck on the ground level.

Bring spray for the mosquitoes and sunscreen.

Biking around the island is nice if you want to bring your own bikes.

Try to get everything you need before you cross to the island because you have to pay $55 for the ferry (round-trip) every time you cross. There is a general store on the island, but it is more expensive than on the mainland.

This is definitely a place to come get away from it all and enjoy time with family and friends.

Great property

  • 5 of 5

I recently rented Tia Maria's island house with 2 other couples. We had a great vacation. The house was just the right size, fully equipped with modern amenities and the beds were all super comfortable. The island is beautiful, peaceful and welcoming and the beach is so clean. Just gorgeous.

I recommend a golf cart. We rented one and used it every day. The house is just far enough from the beach to need a lift. I suppose you could use the car, but the cart was more fun! We had lunch at the resort restaurant twice. Good food and drink specials. I would recommend this property to families or anyone. It was great.

Too many surprises

  • 3 of 5

No response from the owner in the two weeks leading up to our stay. We had to contact VRBO directly on the night of our arrival to get access. We did not realize that any trip to a restaurant or a grocery store would require the $55 ferry ride - and there is nothing on the island. The hot water was turned off in the house. No instructions for wifi or TV use. No help for how to get to the beach and access is very difficult. Also, we were introduced to Red Tide - causing coughing and irritation to eyes and lungs. The house itself was great - very comfortable. Next time we'll chose a hotel.

Beautiful home, in a very nice but quiet island

  • 3 of 5

The home is very comfortable, well maintained and has everything needed for a nice stay. The beach equipment needs some serious updating, I didn't like the fact that kayaking is mentioned as an activity but I couldn't use the kayaks at the house.

Palm Island is VERY quiet with really nothing to to but bicycle (have to rent them), kayak (have to rent them) and walk the beach. There is one very mediocre restaurant and no stores of any kind on the island and having to use a ferry to get back to the mainland is very inconvenient and expensive.

If you're looking for a place to relax on the beach, then this is a great place. There were days where we were the ONLY people on the beach (Red Tide didn't help: everyone was coughing).

I highly recommend the house as long as the owners provide new beach equipment and provide a book with information about where things are, what beach to go to, beach access, emergency numbers, etc. etc.

Owner's Response: Mario thank you for your review. I appreciate your feedback in regards to the home. I am happy to state that we have since upgraded the beach chairs, and umbrellas in the home. If you plan to spend some time again in our lovely home and are interested in going on and off the ferry please let us know as we can provide you additional ferry tickets at a lower cost as oppose to purchasing from the ferry since we purchase numerous at a time. In regards to the kayaks due to liability reasons we do not loan those out to our renters but do provide the information for a company that rents them out. Again sorry for the inconvenience and thank you again we hope to host you again in our home.

Quiet Location with Space

  • 5 of 5

My wife and 4 kids (7 and under) had space to stretch out. The back porch with the fans was great even at 96 degrees outside it felt nice in the back porch. The location is quiet. We rented golf carts making it easy to get to and from the beach. The home came with beach chairs, umbrella's, beach toys, and everything else needed inside for a comfortable stay all we had to bring was clothes, food and some supplies.
