Villa Poletti is owned by the same family since late 1800s. We are very happy to share the history and the beauty of this house.
Karin purchased this villa in 1800
The villa is very elegant and furnished with beautiful antiques. The location is stunning. Close to the small village S.Giovanni where you find all you need and just 3 minutes to downtown Bellagio by car.
The beautiful porch overviewing the lake is magical. As soon as you arrive you find peace, nature and historical beauties. Near the villa depart scenic trails with lovely walks that can take you to the summit of Mount St. First in order to fully appreciate the spectacle of the three branches of Lake Como and the newly discovered caves.
Our stay at this villa was the highlight of our trip through Italy and France. The wonderful view of the lake was equally stunning during the day or in the evening as it is directly in front of elegantly lit villas on the opposite shore. The staff of the villa was extremely helpful in planning and reserving activities for us, including a rental boat which we could keep overnight in the villa's boat slip in the harbor below the property. Cooking in a well stocked kitchen and dining on the wonderful lake view garden terrace were perhaps our favorite times. We booked the villa chef to cook dinner on the first evening and she helped us plan the grocery shopping for the rest of our stay with pointers on where to buy the best of this and the best of that. We also enjoyed browsing the villa's wine list from which we ordered a nice selection of local wines that were delivered the next day.
We were welcomed by property keeper Monica, who was very helpful and accommodating and discrete Lady, full of useful advice regarding local gastronomic and entertainment scene. property was very comfortable and fully equipped for even large gathering. it was first time for us to stay in Europe outside of regular hotel scene and we are hooked. We are coming back for sore as views from Villa Poletti left unforgettable mark on our tourist souls. Thank you for your hospitality and see you...., as soon as we have a chance to visit this iconic part of the Globe.
Peter with Family and Friends,
Villa Poletti certainly lived up to its reputation. It was the perfect place to stay for a week, and the spaciousness of the villa allowed us to relax.
Some particulars about the home. It is located 1 mile from Bellagio center, but it is on the bus route and has a bus stop almost outside the front door. The bus runs regularly and on time (mostly). The main level has a beautiful view of Lake Como from the terrace and Living Room, which seats 6 people comfortably. The dining table seats 8. The kitchen was adequate, with all the essentials for daily cooking. The only thing it lacked was a proper rolling pin (the one there had a long crack), and sharp knives. Otherwise, I was able to cook anything we wanted. Incidentally, there are 2 grocery stores within 1 mile, so supplies are right at hand. There is a full bath on the main level.
The second floor has three bedrooms. Two overlook Lake Como, with the third on the street side. One is a suite; the other 2 share a bathroom. They are all spacious. The third floor has an apartment with its own small kitchen, Living Room bedroom and bathroom. It is also spacious. My daughter thought she was in Heaven with her own place away from the other kids. The furniture throughout is very nice and comfortable. The "apartment" is just up the stairs. The church bell in San Giovanni plays music daily.
We spent two weeks in Italy and Switzerland, but the time at Villa Poletti was the only time I would say I relaxed. Everywhere else we were forced to stay in three different hotel rooms, which meant we had no common areas to interact. We were also forced to eat in restaurants for every meal. The advantage Villa Poletti has is that you can have the refrigerator and pantry stocked before you arrive and have food for breakfasts (with espresso/cappuccino) and snacks. I also cooked several dinners there. It was so perfect to sit at the dining table on the terrace and enjoy the sunset views of the lake. We could also go out to dinner when we wanted, and weren't limited to the overpriced restaurants in Bellagio.
We rented a car because it's hard to get bus and ferry schedules to coincide. If you take the bus you might have to catch the 8:22 am bus for a 9:15 ferry, meaning you spend nearly an hour at the ferry station waiting. The bus only comes every 1 1/2 hours or so. Parking isn't plentiful in Bellagio, but it seemed sufficient, especially if you get there early in the day.
The villa was beyond perfect for our family of 3 adult couples and a 14 month old. We felt right at home from the get go and had every convenience we needed. The kitchen was nicely stocked with modern appliances, wifi and tv worked great no problems , the beautiful views from every room we didn't want to leave the villa. Karin the owner was super helpful with recommendations for restaurants, tours and anything else we asked she had good answers!
A gorgeous house with stunning views, we spent a magical week at Villa Poletti. The house is warm and welcoming with great facilities and extensive information that helped make our holiday a perfect experience. Nothing was too much trouble for the local manager, and everyone in the local area was welcoming. We will be back.
We have just spent 1 week in the most idyllic area and most beautiful villa anyone can imagine. Our stay at Villa Poletti was more than we had hoped for. The property is magnificent. Beautifully appointed, private and immaculate. We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived. Monica was at the house to greet us and Karin helped in every way, with any arrangements we needed. She arranged day trips, restaurant reservations and local transportation. The villa is steps away from the quiet village of San Giovanni, where we enjoyed delicious fresh seafood, and within walking distance of the spectacular town of Bellagio, where shopping, restaurants and friendly people abound. The panoramic views of the lake from the villa are breathtaking. We will be going back. Do not miss the opportunity to stay at this amazing place. You will be very happy you did.
Villa Poletti is a magnificent home located in Bellagio with breathtaking views of the most beautiful part of Lake Como. It towers over the small hamlet of San Giovanni with its quaint harbor, boat landing, pebble beaches, historical church, restaurant, grocer and a small post office. Relax and enjoy the historical villa across the lake from almost everywhere on the property, including the grassy living room balcony and the terraced fruit-tree garden. The villa is located just 3 minutes by car to downtown Bellagio. If you are in the mood to explore you may walk 15 minutes to visit the amazing gardens of Villa Melzi or take a half hour stroll to downtown Bellagio.
