Tamara Lupoloff built and planted her farm here in Hakalau. Recently retired from 27 years in the travel industry, she knew this little piece of Hawaii was where she wanted to be. Her planning and hard work has allowed her to share her dream with others, and she enjoys welcoming guests from all over the world to experience the serenity and beauty of Hawaii.
Tamara Lupoloff purchased this cottage in 2005
Tamara loves the tropical weather and ability to grow a wide variety or fruits year round. The view and the neighborhood, with her close proximity to the ocean, make it home.
Tamara custom-built the houses and planted all ten acres just the way she had always dreamed. The views are magnificent. Guests have space to stretch out and get away from it all while enjoying the easy, beautiful drive to all that Hilo, and the Big Island, has to offer.
The cottage on the family fruit farm in Hakalau was everything I was hoping for - peaceful and gorgeous and very comfortable for me and my family. It was a great base of operations for all of our travels throughout the island, and a wonderful place to rest after sight-seeing, hiking and body-surfing. Tamara and Cameron were very kind and hospitable, and have stocked the cottage with so many conveniences. I hope we can come back and stay again soon!
This was the first time staying for a whole month in a vacation rental. It was the perfect choice for a real Hawaiian experience. The cottage had everything we needed for cooking and just a beautiful environment. Tamara and Cameron were quickly responsive to our needs and questions. Only wish we could stay longer!
We stayed here for the first week of January 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is stocked with everything you need and the owner is very responsive. We have three energetic young children and this was a great space for them with the lanai and yard. The location is great for exploring the big island, and I think this is the most beautiful spot, with lush greenery everywhere, and away from the crowds. We did about half beach days on the Kohala coast (1 hour drive) and the other half exploring this side of the island. We returned here each evening exhausted but felt recharged after a peaceful night's sleep for the next day's adventures.
The guest 'house' was lovely, the kitchen had all you could want and more. The bedroom was lovely and had some gorgeous furniture in it and the bed very comfy. The lounge area was small but that didn't bother us as we spent every evening out on the lanai listening to the coqui frogs - even when it rained. The views of the night sky were amazing. Quiet and relaxing. The owners live onsite and were very helpful but were not intrusive. I am sorry that we didn't end up with enough time to have a tour of the farm, I think it would have been fascinating.
My husband and I loved our stay at the Fruit Farm on Hakalau! Tamara, the property owner and fruit farmer extraordinaire, was so warm and welcoming, and yet we never felt like we didn't have enough of our own space and privacy. We flew to the big island after spending a week on Maui and I brought some dirty laundry with. In response to asking if there was a laundromat near by, Tamara kindly offered to quickly wash a load for us, so we could hang it on the lines on the cottage lanai. It was so helpful! We also enjoyed a few super fresh & huge avocados, a dragon fruit, a breadfruit, and some little bananas from the property, along with home-made banana bread! Seriously above and beyond for a VRBO in our experience, and it made the second leg of our honeymoon so fun and memorable. I loved the little geckos that we would see here or there on the back lanai, and even the times it would rain we could sit out on the lanai and enjoy that too. The cottage itself had everything we needed and was very nice and comfortable. We slept so well while we were there, with all the sounds of the country and plenty of fresh air. Even borrowed snorkel gear for one of our trips to a beach on the west side of the island. Loved staying here and we hope we can do it again in the future. Thanks!!
The fruit farm was a great retreat in a wonderful location. House was fully equipped and homey. Perfect for couple or small family.
Thank you again Tamara for your hospitality!
