About Tamara Lupoloff

Tamara Lupoloff built and planted her farm here in Hakalau. Recently retired from 27 years in the travel industry, she knew this little piece of Hawaii was where she wanted to be. Her planning and hard work has allowed her to share her dream with others, and she enjoys welcoming guests from all over the world to experience the serenity and beauty of Hawaii.

Tamara Lupoloff purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Tamara Lupoloff chose Hilo District

Tamara loves the tropical weather and ability to grow a wide variety or fruits year round. The view and the neighborhood, with her close proximity to the ocean, make it home.

What makes this cottage unique

Tamara custom-built the houses and planted all ten acres just the way she had always dreamed. The views are magnificent. Guests have space to stretch out and get away from it all while enjoying the easy, beautiful drive to all that Hilo, and the Big Island, has to offer.

Gorgeous Farm Stay Experience

  • 4 of 5

The location is gorgeous and bucolic. Amenities are adequate. Hostess includes tasty fresh fruits in season. Remodeled bathroom is a pleasure. Best for a family--A few quirks: Main door of house enters into bedroom. Night traffic, though infrequent, seems to roar up the street--house is not set back very far from road. Didn't bother others as much.

Amazing little getaway with wonderful owner

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there for a week this month and loved it. 4 adults and 1 kid stayed in the cottage and felt like home. The fruit farm is wonderful waking up to birds singing and going to bed with Coqui frogs coquing away at night. Lot of open space to play frisbee or just sit in the lanai and enjoy the mornings. The place is close enough to the city but has all the amenities for days/evenings you don't feel like going and cook something in the kitchen. Tamara supplied us with eggs twice on our request and had wonderful breakfast with them. This time of the year the trees are filled with fruit just coming so we didnt get a chance to taste the Lychees but even just walking through the farm was relaxing. Tamara's 3 dogs were wonderful too when we got a chance to meet them. Very quiet and restful place it is...

If we come to Big island anytime, this is the place we will automatically try to stay. Thank you Tamara for maintaining such a beautiful place.

Our stay at Family Fruit Farm was nothing less than Fabulous.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Family Fruit Farm was nothing less than Fabulous. The location and appeal of this sweet little house on a Family Fruit Farm was perfect for our family of 4. We were extremely comfortable and had deep nights' sleep being serenaded by the singing of the coqui - small tree frogs. Tamara welcomed us with an "Aloha!" from her porch when we arrived, was helpful with getting our WiFi hooked up, ground our coffee beans, supplied us with farm fresh eggs from her chickens, and even gave us a tour of her farm and insights about where we should go during our stay on the island. We will absolutely stay here again during our next trip to The Big Island, and certainly will recommend it to others. Thank you!

Love the Farm

  • 4 of 5

We like to stay here every time we visit. One of our favorite things is the wonderful lanai on the back of the cottage that overlooks a lush and beautiful yard...full of birds, geckos, and fruit trees. The owners will happily show you around the farm, and you can even buy fresh eggs.

It is peaceful and relaxing, and has easy access to the belt road. Hopefully we will return. Thanks Tamara.

A beautiful piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

The cottage on the family fruit farm in Hakalau was everything I was hoping for - peaceful and gorgeous and very comfortable for me and my family. It was a great base of operations for all of our travels throughout the island, and a wonderful place to rest after sight-seeing, hiking and body-surfing. Tamara and Cameron were very kind and hospitable, and have stocked the cottage with so many conveniences. I hope we can come back and stay again soon!

Such a wonderful relaxing experience!

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time staying for a whole month in a vacation rental. It was the perfect choice for a real Hawaiian experience. The cottage had everything we needed for cooking and just a beautiful environment. Tamara and Cameron were quickly responsive to our needs and questions. Only wish we could stay longer!

Hakalau beach is five minutes away and is a great place to go surfing, fishing, diving, or kayaking. The Hakalau River flows into the ocean here;you can swim in the cold river and float into the warm ocean. There is a small black sand beach and bathrooms are available. It is a historic site with ruins from the plantation days. This beautiful side of the Big Island, known as the Hamakua Coast, has numerous waterfalls. The famous and beautiful Akaka Falls, a favorite theme of many local musicians, is located 15 minutes away in the quaint town of Honomu, which has places to eat and shop and one of two spectacular and popular zip lines. The other way towards Waimea just 10 minutes away is Laupahoehoe point, which is named for the leaf-shaped lava along its beaches, is 15 minutes away and features the train museum and the 50's cafe and the newly opened Paapaloa Country Store and Cafe.. We have two botanical gardens. Hilo is 20 minutes away and Waimea cowboy country, home to the famous Parker Ranch, is just 55 minutes away. The spectacular ocean view drive stretches in both directions.
