About the property

1 Bedroom with 2 Sleeper Sofas. Oceanfront End Unit Closest To Beach

Create memories that will last a lifetime at this perfect coastal location! With its tranquil surf, beautiful beach, and warm climate, Isle of Palms is ideal for a family vacation or a romantic retreat for just the two of you. Unit #101 is located just steps from the beach access and the complex-owned private fishing pier, both gated. This is a first floor unit and still has an amazing, tropical view down the beach!

Our condo, Shipp's Treasure, is an end unit so you have only the dunes with the sand and sea beyond. The southeast facing window provides that extra sunlight that is only afforded to the end units. Beautiful, lush vegetation on the dunes maintains your privacy as well as the custom plantation shutters! This close to the ocean, you can open the doors and really feel the warm ocean breeze!

Shipp's Treasure is one of the nicest units in the complex with extensive renovations including; ceramic tile flooring, beautiful granite countertops in kitchen and bath, abundant pantry storage with custom pull-out drawers, full-size range, bead-board cabinetry, tiled shower with glass doors and additional shower wand, flat screen HD TVs in both living area and bedroom, and dual sleeper sofas. We are unit 101 on the first floor, just 10 stairs to the private boardwalk. Possibly the shortest walk from the complex to the ocean, pier, and one of the picnic/grill areas, and the pool is just a few more steps beyond. The pool house has a laundry facility that offers new commercial grade washers and dryers for those longer stays or off-season retreats.

Our condo is less than 14 miles from the city of Charleston. In downtown Charleston, get a real sense of early America and enjoy the southern charm and beauty of this historic location, voted the #1 city in America by Conde Naste Traveler magazine! Shop at the Old Market, take a horse drawn carriage ride down cobblestone streets, cruise the world famous waterfront Battery, or take an evening Ghost Tour! With some of the best restaurants in the nation, you’ll never be short of good food and fun.

Visit Shipp's Treasure on the Isle of Palms and let the memories begin!

Why Paul Shipp chose Charleston Area

With our deep love of Charleston and Isle of Palms, and with family only minutes away in Mt. Pleasant, it was inevitable that we would own property on the island, and this property is the perfect location! The condo offers everything that we love about the low country; beautiful scenery, a quick stroll to the restaurants and shops on IOP, and easy access to all the culture, shopping, and experiences that Mt. Pleasant and Charleston have to offer.

Our family has been coming to the area since our oldest children, now grown, were youngsters and hope to create many more lasting memories with our youngest child and (someday) grandchildren! We feel truly blessed to have this 'home' on the island to call our own.

What makes this condo unique

We love the toned down, family atmosphere; the short walk to island shops and iconic restaurants, watching the dolphins play in the surf and the waters of Breach Inlet, and the fact that we are only minutes from beautiful Charleston!

The condo is situated literally just behind the dune of the beach! You can open the window or sit on the deck and hear the waves breaking on the sand. Very peaceful!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at your condo. Actually it was the cleanest we have ever rented and we have been in a number of them. Isle of Palms was beautiful and we loved Charleston. Thanks for making the process so easy!

Perfect location/perfect size.

We had a wonderful time at Isle of Palms. The condo was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed to make our stay perfect. The location to the beach and fishing pier can't be beat!

Very nice condo, perfect size for a couple. Terrific location, close to the beach and local eatery's. Couldn't be better, a 5 minute walk to Ben & Jerry's.

Excellent Beach Condo--Clean and Comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful condo for three days, and we had a fabulous time! We would recommend it as a romantic spot for a couple. The oceanside location was very scenic and had great access to the beach and pier. We enjoyed being able to walk out the door right onto the beach for morning sunrises, evening walks, swimming, etc. The condo was cozy and clean--comfortable bed as well. We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and modern décor. The balcony was nice with ample seating--great place to enjoy your morning coffee! The owner was very friendly, helpful, and easy to work with. He was responsive to phone calls and emails. He also provided some good insight on restaurants and things to do on the Isle of Palms and the surrounding area. We would definitely return to this place and highly recommend it to others!

Small space, not comfortable for more than two people

  • 3 of 5

It is best suited for two people, even though it says it sleeps up to four (which it technically does because of the pull out couch) it was very tight for us even with only two adults and two children. It's a very small space with only two bar stools for the kitchen island and two chairs on the balcony, it really seems best suited for two people. The pull out couch is very uncomfortable, we ended up using that and the air mattress they had there, although it wasn't much more comfortable than the couch. Also, we had no refills for toilet paper or paper towels and since we were there for five days, we ran out. The unit is right by the beach, but because of that there is also a lot of foot traffic/people and not much privacy. Due to the lack of space and uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, I gave it a lower rating.

Owner's Response: Rhiannon, Let us address your comments individually: "best suited for 2 people" Yes, 1-BR condos are usually best suited for 2. We clearly advertise ours as a 1-BR with sleeper sofa (new in 2013). We do not know of a sleeper sofa that is as comfortable as a bed, although we never have trouble getting good rest on it when we stay in our unit. Also, both children and adults in the past have found the air mattress to be quite comfortable. "small space..." Again, it's a 1-BR unit. The web pictures clearly show its contents/layout. "no refills…" Our cleaning service prepares the condo for each arriving guest with 2 rolls of toilet paper, 2 sets of clean towels (bath, hand, wash cloth), and bath mat, as well as paper towels (2 rolls), wash cloth, dish towel, and liquid detergent for the kitchen and bathroom. If you had requested more towels prior to your arrival, we would gladly have made arrangements for you. Also, as photos clearly show, there are washers/dryers on site for laundering your items. There is a new Harris Teeter grocery 1 block from the complex (4 min. walk/2 min. ride) for purchasing re-supplies. We are not a hotel and it is not incumbent upon us as owners to keep our renters stocked with consumables, nor do we know of any owner-rented property on the island, or anywhere for that matter, that supplies such a service without extra fees. “right by the beach…” Yes! It IS right by the beach! That’s what we love about it. We have had nothing but overwhelming positive comments about our condo’s proximity to the beach/ocean. The unit is an end unit which, normally, is highly desired as you don’t have neighbors on both sides. Of obvious note is that you made no mention of the qualities of our condo that set us apart from most: cleanliness; kitchen well stocked with dishes/pots, small appliances, utensils; free hi-speed internet; extensive storage space, granite counters and tile throughout, custom built deck stools (there are 3 seats on the deck), etc. This is our home that we have opened up for rental so that others may enjoy. Please don't take it out on us with a mediocre rating because you wanted more space/beds. It sounds like you probably should have rented a 2-bedroom unit on the island to meet your space requirements, or somewhere off island for privacy. We might suggest doing your research and asking questions early (we are ALWAYS reachable by phone) for your next rental so that both you and the owner know exactly what to expect.

Great condo for 2 people, but a few things need attention

  • 4 of 5

The condo works perfectly for us and we love the location. It truly is very close to the beach. But, we stayed 2 yrs. ago and it was great. This time there were several broken floor tiles which moved under our feet and the toilet rocked on its base. Over priced for the condition of the floor.

Owner's Response: HI Judy and thanks for the feedback! We were aware of some hairline cracks in 1 or 2 tiles but not of any tiles loosening to the point of moving underfoot. Thanks for letting us know! It is usually though feedback from our renters that we know something is amiss. The coast has a very dynamic climate and physiographic system, including high winds during certain times of the year that actually move the buildings (by design) ever so slightly, which is the case with all beachfront buildings. It's difficult to maintain a rigid floor, such as our tiled floor, for more than a few years without cracks showing up from the movement. Obviously there's normal wear and tear that also takes place (most renters do not let us know when they've dropped a can of Spaghettios and cracked a tile). We strive to maintain a beautiful condo for our enjoyment as well as our renters. While we feel that the condo is still one of the nicest in the complex and an excellent value, we have plans to update both the floor (replacement) and bathroom over the fall/winter months so that our unit will continue to be thoroughly enjoyed by all. The next time you are interested in renting on IOP, please check with us so that we can give you an update. Thanks again Judy! Please check back with us in the future. Paul and Ruth

Location, location, location! Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

First and foremost, this location is great. Private pier and private beach access. I had no idea how important this is till you want to visit the beach on IOP (especially on the weekend). This in itself was worth the rental of this condo. Did I mention the great views? Yes they are great. More importantly in looking for a place to stay in the IOP, we contacted multiple renters with less than stellar responses and communication. Let me say that Paul (the owner of this property) answered every single question we had (our first time renting through VRBO and we had multiple questions). Not only that, he sent an email prior to our arrival with great local eateries and places within the proximity of the property to visit. The condo was clean, stocked with every piece of cookware one could imagine and is less than five minutes from the local grocery store. The A/C is icy cold as well which helps with sunburns, haha. We had a great family vacation due in large part to the location, views and ease of renting this condo through Paul. Thank you Paul and family for assisting in making our family vacation a success! Our kids are still reeling about this trip!
