Welcome to Turtle House, a unique Carroll B. Ishee designed home nestled in the woods near East Beach in Ocean Springs. With its angular roof lines, large expanses of glass, different floor levels and decks on three sides, the Turtle House invites guests to be attune to nature. The 2 bedroom, 2 bath house offers a peaceful retreat yet is close to East Beach, Gulf Islands National Seashore, USM-Gulf Coast Research Laboratory and downtown Ocean Springs, a place that has received many national accolades for its livability and beauty. With the decks and back yard, the property is secure for children and pets. The house has room to sleep 6, but plenty of interior and exterior space for entertaining, including an outdoor grill and wet bar. Located on a paved dead-end street, there is enough parking for even the Cruisers. The home is very comfortable for couples and families, and we love pets.

Why Dian Willhoite chose Ocean Springs
This is a Carroll B. Ishee house - designed by the noted Gulf Coast architect. It is a Japanese style cottage with decks on three sides. It is located in a cul de sac in a secluded part of Ocean Springs. It has an open floor plan, with large bay windows on the wooded side of the house.
What makes this Cottage unique
Many people enjoy the wildlife that is visible from the house. Birds, rabbits, raccoon, and of course turtles make there appearance on a daily basis. There is a bald eagle nest within one thousand yards of the house. Numerous seabirds and coastal birds are in evidence on any normal day from the bayous, beach, and estuaries nearby. Dolphin sightings from the beach are reasonably common.
Architectural Gem in Captivating Small Town
Connect with nature in a small, foodie haven on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Maison de Torture is an architectural gem folded into its natural, coastal forest surroundings of Ocean Springs. The house sits in a residential neighborhood at the end of a private road and features a wrap-around deck, outdoor kitchen and fire pit. Inside, you'll find floor-to-ceiling glazing surrounding a lower level open floor plan living room, dining room and kitchen space. On the upper level are two bedrooms (full-size bed; 2 x 2-level bunk beds), two full bathrooms and a laundry room. Owner lives nearby and was a great help sourcing local establishments - restaurants (try the TatoNut Shop for incredible doughnuts), shops, attractions (ex. Stenis Space Center). Downtown and public beaches are a 5-minute drive away. Great parks near town for the kids. We hope to return soon!
This is a wonderful family. I enjoyed them so much. I hope they will return. They came for Charlotte's birthday celebration. We have great guests at the Turtle House. Thank you for the wonderful review. I appreciate it so much! Yes, Ocean Springs is a historic small town with lots of features for families, couples, "get together s with old friends" and even wedding parties. The restaurants are awesome and there is always something happening here. Please come back to see us Stafford family.
Quaint cottage in a secluded setting
The Turtle House was great. The house was cute and quirky, and the setting was gorgeous. We loved the deck outside. Inside was very comfortable for our small family and two dogs. We will be back.
Loved the Turtle House & Dian. Great location and really great for our 4-legged fellows. Will definitely be back
Quiet and secluded
The home is located in a residential area but you wouldn't think that once you're inside! The windows make you feel like you're close to nature. It's quiet inside and the open floor plan is roomy and cozy. I deeply regretted not bringing my dogs with us but the next time we go they are definitely coming too!
Cute little hideaway!!!
My friends and I enjoyed the stay! If you love the rustic, outdoorsy life this is the place for you!
Quaint, unique home close to attractions & restaraunts; cozy
Loved watching the rain through all the big windows; we felt like we were in the woods - it was peaceful & felt secluded - which is great! Close to downtown & easy to find. Loved the secured deck and yard - our dogs felt at home! We hosted dinner for our family and everyone really loved the house - we had plenty of room! We loved The Turtle House and we hope to return!
The Turtle House on Gum Street is a unique property designed by Carroll B. Ishee. The house is hidden away in old Ocean Springs. It is built of glass and wood to bring nature inside. We particularly like to have people with dogs. The house has a series of terraces and a yard that dogs enjoy which are all separately enclosed for their safety. The house has two bedrooms and two baths. It sleeps six - this includes two bunkbeds and one queen size bed. The baths have Jacuzzi tubs that are wonderful. There is plenty of safe parking. Car show enthusiasts will note that there is roll in access to the gated yard and room for several cars. You will find it quiet and joyous.
