Our son in law, Elwood Reid, writer and producer, fell in love with Livingston while on a book tour promoting his book, If I don't six. He and his family live in LA, but every summer and on holidays they retreat to their home in Livingston. Our five grandchildren drew us to buy a home so that we could be with them as much as possible. Over these 12 years we have fallen head over heals in love with this house, the town, it's people and of course the gem of our national park system, Yellowstone. purchased this house in 2005

Why chose Livingston

This home is ideal for one or two people who appreciate living in a small town and who love the huge open space and feeling of Big Sky Country. The location is ideal for writers, painters, fisherman, hikers, bikers, and people who love the splendor of the natural world. Although we love dogs our house is not suitable for dogs.

What makes this house unique

When we first saw this home we knew it was for us. My daughter said it was a 'turn key', I had no idea what that meant. When I asked her and she told me, I realized that she knew that as the director of an independent school, having been integrally involved in five building projects that we would be able to move in without doing anything major, and she was right. The previous owner, a San Francisco native, had redone every room in this charming, bright, open home. From the galley kitchen to the back porch this house is immaculate and tastefully done. Our home is not pet friendly.

Comfortable stay at an in-town location

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a month in Livingston. The size and layout of this bungalow is great for two. It has everything you need with the exception of cable/local TV (owner provides Netflix and Prime streaming). The bathroom is spacious, includes two sinks and has lots of hot water and good pressure in the shower. The enclosed back porch provides an additional quiet space. The location is close to restaurants and downtown as well as the main park and Yellowstone River. Walking or bicycling (bikes provided) are good ways to enjoy the town.

The River Runs Through Us

  • 5 of 5

This house is a sanctuary. Built in 1913 it has been updated in the most conscious way. The house is situated in a context of a neighborhood filled with a diverse array of kind, caring and compassionate people. From writers to seekers this is a place that attracts people of depth and reflection. The secret garden of this home enchants every aspect of living here. The mountains and the valleys, the animals and the birds, the sky and the air conspire to take you beyond time. The drive to the North entrance of Yellowstone National Park is unlike any other drive I've ever taken. 52 miles of beauty all leading to President TR's best idea. I can't wait to come back and I'll take with me this beauty for the rest of my life.

Most comfortable, well-appointed cottage.

Perfect accommodations for two. Very quaint and comfortable. I highly recommend to a couple seeking a quiet get away in God's country. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Livingston, made even more enjoyable by the effort of the owner and property manager.

Comfortable in a wonderful small town.

  • 5 of 5

Home base was exactly like the pictures online. My friend and I stayed here on a trip to Yellowstone. The drive to the park everyday was beautiful.

In Livingston we were able to shop for food at a co-op and get warm hats at Bob's Outdoor,INC downtown. There were a couple of good restaurants we tried on Main St :Gill's for a great breakfast and a Mexican restaurant that was open until 10pm.

I would recommend this house to any small group it is comfortable and well situated for Yellowstone exploration.

Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in this home for 5 days during our recent visit to Livingston. It is a modest yet very comfortable house. It is well located on a quiet street within walking distance to the downtown area and local park. The bed is comfortable and the shower is outstanding with plenty of towels. The kitchen has modern high end appliances and is well stocked. We enjoyed our time there very much and would stay again on another trip to Livingston.
