Our son in law, Elwood Reid, writer and producer, fell in love with Livingston while on a book tour promoting his book, If I don't six. He and his family live in LA, but every summer and on holidays they retreat to their home in Livingston. Our five grandchildren drew us to buy a home so that we could be with them as much as possible. Over these 12 years we have fallen head over heals in love with this house, the town, it's people and of course the gem of our national park system, Yellowstone. purchased this house in 2005

Why chose Yellowstone

This home is ideal for one or two people who appreciate living in a small town and who love the huge open space and feeling of Big Sky Country. The location is ideal for writers, painters, fisherman, hikers, bikers, and people who love the splendor of the natural world. Although we love dogs our house is not suitable for dogs.

What makes this house unique

When we first saw this home we knew it was for us. My daughter said it was a 'turn key', I had no idea what that meant. When I asked her and she told me, I realized that she knew that as the director of an independent school, having been integrally involved in five building projects that we would be able to move in without doing anything major, and she was right. The previous owner, a San Francisco native, had redone every room in this charming, bright, open home. From the galley kitchen to the back porch this house is immaculate and tastefully done. Our home is not pet friendly.

Comfortable in a wonderful small town.

  • 5 of 5

Home base was exactly like the pictures online. My friend and I stayed here on a trip to Yellowstone. The drive to the park everyday was beautiful.

In Livingston we were able to shop for food at a co-op and get warm hats at Bob's Outdoor,INC downtown. There were a couple of good restaurants we tried on Main St :Gill's for a great breakfast and a Mexican restaurant that was open until 10pm.

I would recommend this house to any small group it is comfortable and well situated for Yellowstone exploration.

Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in this home for 5 days during our recent visit to Livingston. It is a modest yet very comfortable house. It is well located on a quiet street within walking distance to the downtown area and local park. The bed is comfortable and the shower is outstanding with plenty of towels. The kitchen has modern high end appliances and is well stocked. We enjoyed our time there very much and would stay again on another trip to Livingston.

A Jewel

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the house for just over a week. It's in a wonderful walkable neighborhood and the house itself is extremely comfortable and very tastefully decorated. It has full amenities including wifi and everything worked beautifully. It's perfect for a couple with small children or two adult friends. I would return there at the drop of a hat.

We had a fabulous time during our stay and the house was perfect! We found the house to be clean and beautiful with everything we needed. Very conveniently located to all of the businesses and things we wanted to see and do, just minutes from the museums, stores and Sacajawea Park, where there is a pool and the Yellowstone River. We would definitely stay here again should we go back for a visit. Thanks so much to the owners for having this wonderful place available and they were so readily available to answer questions as well!

Worked great for our family of 4

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this quaint house in downtown Livingston. The Master Bedroom had a comfortable bed (my husband is very picky), and the kids slept in the pull-out bed in the sun-room. The backyard was beautiful with a lot of greenery. The front porch with the swing and the fence and the steps (10-12 steps) that lead up to the front door make it inviting.

We went to Yellowstone a couple of the days, and did White Water Rafting another day. It was quite a drive with the construction stops on the way into Gardiner (Yellowstone). It probably normally would have been about an hour, but it usually took us about 1 1/2 hours with construction. However, I knew that the drive would be there when we booked the reservation. I will probably book closer to the park next time we visit though. The books on the living room bookshelf for Yellowstone hikes came in handy a couple of times.

We did make it to the Wednesday Farmers Market 4:30-7:30 pm at Sacajawea Park and Zak's BBQ (Applewood Smoked Pork Loaded potato) was delicious. Very fun atmosphere. We also tried the Pizza at Gil's Goods located on Park St., good food, and fun for my kids to watch them toss the pizza, but not quite as family friendly as the farmer's market. We didn't get to explore downtown Livingston as much as we wanted to. The trains were fun to see coming and going. We did usually hear them at night around 9 or 10 pm, but we weren't bothered by them. We might have used the bikes in the garage to explore the town more if we had stayed longer.

Overall, it was a fun place with nice people. Would be perfect for exploring a cute small town, and to hike and explore some of the local areas (Pine Creek sounded fun).

Owner's Response: the drive without construction to Yellowstone takes about an hour and is one of the most beautiful drives in the world. Gil's Goods not only has excellent food, fresh bread and French pastries, it caters to special diets. So glad you enjoyed our home, thanks for the review.
