About the property

Charming and comfortable apartment in Oltrarno, i.e. “on the other side of the river Arno” (Diladdarno by Florentines): one of the most characteristic and genuine quarter of the centre of Florence. The house is located in a strategic position both for visiting the historical centre of Florence, and for outdoor excursions in the evocative hills surrounding the city, the house is close to Boboli Gardens and just a 10 minutes’ walk from the Pitti Palace, the Santo Spirito and Santa Maria del Carmine churches, the neighborhood of San Frediano and of San Niccolò, a 15 minutes’ walk from ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi and piazza della Signoria. It is also possible to have a walk in the surroundings to Piazzale Michelangelo with the magnificent Basilica of San Miniato al Monte and the hill of Bellosguardo for a panoramic view over the old town. In a few minutes by car, you can reach the Certosa (Charterhouse) del Galluzzo, visit the Florentine Chianti and, further on, reach the towns of Siena and Volterra (it is also possible to take a bus for these itineraries, with a stop really close to the apartment).

The apartment is situated on the first floor of a building of the early twentieth century and consists of a living room with sofa bed, a kitchen-dining room, bathroom, two bedrooms, a storeroom and a balcony. It is fully equipped with furniture, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, refrigerator, washing machine, tumble dryer, vacuum cleaner, fan, iron and ironing board, TV, DVD player, stereo, wifi Internet connection, towels, bed linen, baby cot and baby high chair, books.

From the central railway station there are 4 different busses getting to the house in approx. 10 min.

It can be easily reached by car and there are parking spaces also for non-residents.

Upon your arrival, we will give you all the useful information to enjoy the spirit of the real Florence with its many places for a happy hour, a glass of wine or to taste the Florentine cuisine, the traditional shops and stores, shows and cultural events.

Leafy neighborhood was a serene escape from Florence crowds.

  • 5 of 5

We are so glad we took a chance on renting a place a 20 min walk from centro storico. We loved the 'left-bank' of the Arno for its escape from selfie sticks (!), authentic neighborhood feel, great running on Niccolo Machiavelli, and the Porto Romana Entrance to the Oltrarno.

Alida had someone there to meet us and explain a few 'housekeeping details'. The apartment was clean, well-stocked with towels, fresh coffee and fruit and the MOST comfortable bed and pillows of our 6 week trip thru Italy sleeping in 14 different units! We used the courtyard clothesline and felt very at home with the local grocers, markets, services and buses.

To keep things 'real' I will say the traffic noise from the busy street was substantial. Luckily, it wasn't so hot we had to have windows open at night, so it really wasn't a problem for us. Some would consider the walk into Florence a negative, but it was well worth it to us for a less touristy visit to this very popular Italian destination.

Would stay there again and recommend it highly to other travelers.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

This place is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. The place is so charming and has comfortable beds. Lots of linens and towels provided. They even provide snacks. The washing machine is a plus and works well. We just dried it in the sun. I like that it had a lot of closet space and hooks for guests. It's also about a 30 minute walk to ponte Vecchio but such a nice and easy walk through the little alleyway. The apartment is very safe. There are a flight of stairs but it wasn't a problem for us. We would definitely stay here again!

A lovely apartment in Florence

  • 5 of 5

A lovely apartment in the older section of Florence. Close to restaurants, grocery stores and other shopping. The "best coffee in Italy", tea, fruit, cereal and other snacks were provided.

Walking was very easy to Duomo and other sites, also easy access to bus. We appreciated the information at the apartment about Florence and the surrounding areas.

Thanks for your hospitality Alida!

Wonderful Oltrarno Apartment

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a ten-day stay in this comfortable, well-maintained and equipped apartment. Alida's suggestions for local services and restaurants were very helpful. This is a perfect location (close to the Porto Romano and Boboli Gardens). It is only a twenty minute walk into the center of Florence, but the Oltrarno is more peaceful and relaxed, with good restaurants and interesting shops (crafts, bakeries, gelato). Our favorite restaurant was La Vecchia Bettola. A beautiful crafts shop is & Company on Via Maggio. A close-by activity I would highly recommend is the Giardinio Torrigiani, a centuries-old family-owned private garden. A tour can be arranged by contacting Vieri Torrigiani.

The apartment is located in the Oltrarno area, that is the old city quarter where Florentines prefer to spend their free time to appreciate both the beauty of the monuments, churches and squares, and the recreation in a huge number of restaurants, trattorias, bars, wine bars and 'fiaschetterie' that still give a taste of genuineness to this part of the city, thanks to the care given both to the food quality and to a cultural and musical program, that offers an assortment of initiatives throughout the year (in summer there are bandstands and outdoor cafes set up in all the squares).

The house is located in front of the ancient walls just outside Porta Romana, a privileged access to the most renowned surroundings of the city: Chianti with the towns of Greve in Chianti, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa and other places famous for wine production and excellent restaurants and the area between Florence and Siena with the charming cities of San Gimignano, Certaldo, Montalcino, Montepulciano (these places can also be easily reached by busses of the company SITA, the bus stop is in Piazza di Porta Romana and the journeys take 30 to 80 min. according to destination).

In the apartment, you will find touristic information, guides and a map of the Oltrarno area with a list of useful addresses (supermarkets, cash dispensers, pharmacies), as well as restaurants, taverns, wineries and bars in a range of prices.

For an overview of many cultural and civic events offered in the area, we recommend the site www.diladdarno.it/en/.
