Suttons Bay, in the heart of the Leelanau Peninsula, is the perfect place to discover the pleasures of Leelanau County. Walk on endless Lake Michigan beaches, sail in Grand Traverse Bay, shop in the quaint towns of Leland and Glen Arbor, boat on Lake Leelanau, go wine tasting, spend a day in Traverse City - just 15 miles away, visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes or explore farther and see all of gorgeous Leelanau County.

Our guests love that they can walk everywhere; to the beach, cafes, shops, excellent restaurants and the movies, all within less than 5 minutes.

Our recent guests commented: 'The house is darling. So cute!'

Ammenities include central A/C, cable, wifi, two TVs, charcoal grill, board games and laundry for our guests.

In addition to sailing, boating, fishing and swimming in Lake Michigan and Lake Leelanau, you can golf at a selection of quality golf courses nearby, hike on many well-maintained trails, and bike throughout the county. Bike-enthusiasts love the TART railroad trails which pass right thru Suttons Bay.

Why Melissa Smith chose Northern Michigan

The Schoolhouse Cottage is a charming historic house which we really loved renovating. Suttons Bay feels like a resort. Reading and sun-bathing on the beach, sailing and kayaking in the bay, playing tennis, trying new restaurants, exploring cute shops, relaxing in cafes, everything you want to do is right there within a 5 minute walk.

What makes this house unique

The Schoolhouse Cottage has a generous open living and dining room which we love for entertaining friends. The street is quiet, yet very close to town. The outdoor patio is a favorite spot for early morning coffee as well as for long family dinners sharing summer memories!

A perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

The location could not have been better for a couples weekend! So much to do that we never went into Traverse City. Great restaurants and shopping - all within walking distance. Bike and Kayak rentals just a block away - and short drives to beautiful golf courses. We loved being able to stay together in the comfort of a "home" versus the hotel room arrangement we usually do on our weekend retreats - and the house has a wonderful living room in which to hang out. We will definitely go back!

Perfect rental, awesome location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this house. It was perfect for our holiday weekend. Loved being able to walk to everything in Suttons Bay. We were within a 5-15 minute drive of a ton of wineries, Lake Leelanau, Leland, and other cute towns. My dog loved being so close to an awesome walking/biking trail too! The house was almost exactly as we thought it would be based on the description. Lots of room for our party. We had 8 people and that was probably the maximum number of people that could stay here (at least for our comfort level), although 10 could probably squeeze in if needed. The facilities were nice, although the kitchen was a little outdated and could use a bit of a refresh in terms of cooking items (pots/pans/cooking utensils etc).

Overall we really loved this place. We would definitely stay at this house again.

Love this place !!!

We had a wonderful time. Location is PERFECT!!! One block from downtown Sutton's Bay which had lots of quaint stores for shopping and nice restaurants. Also only one block from the beach. House was very nice. Tons of space. The bed was very comfortable. Visited Leland for shopping and Fish Town. Visited North Port Lighthouse at top of peninsula. Great food and lots of wine tasting everywhere. :-) Can't wait to do this again next year as there are tons of activities for everyone and you can't beat the location.

Family celebration

  • 5 of 5

The schoolhouse cottage was so quaint and roomy! My family of 8 had plenty of room to spread out! We enjoyed playing games every evening around the large dining room table! It was so nice to be within walking distance of town. We enjoyed breakfast every morning and went into some of the shops! We attended the wine stompede and had a blast and cannot wait until next year! Melissa was so helpful with every aspect of our stay. The only thing missing was regular tv. Some of the family wanted to watch news and football, but only had Netflix.

Gathering with Friends

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay and Melissa was so easy to work with. We had 9 in our party and there was plenty of room. The location is great and a 2 block walk to the ice cream shop was a nightly must! You are a short drive from everything and a short walk down to the beach. Our grand-dog loved it! The beds are very comfortable and nightly games around the dining table were a blast!
