The old stone farmhouse “Vignale” stands on the gentle southern slopes of the hills about 10 km north of the city of Lucca near the village of Segromigno in Monte. The farmhouse, on two floors, has been lovingly restored to preserve the original rustic character of the building with wooden beamed ceilings and terracotta floors but has all modern conveniences. It consists of two fully independent units, one of which is for rent while the other is lived in by the owners. The comfortable living room has a fully equipped cooking corner including dishwasher & microwave. The rental unit sleeps four persons (two bed rooms) with one and a half bathrooms. Another full bathroom is located in the side building close to the swimming pool. All windows are equipped with mosquito nets. Vignale stands in the midst of a large olive grove. The whole area is very quiet and peaceful. Vignale is ideally located for guests who wish to visit the many art centres and natural beauty spots of Tuscany.
Other activities around Vignale: Bicycles can be rented in Lucca and there are quiet country roads in the slopes around “Vignale” for bicycle rides and for jogging. Children will find plenty to keep them happy on the large property, playing on the fields among the trees or in the pool or having their parents take them to the fine sand beaches of Viareggio or to the “Parco di Pinocchio” at the village of Collodi, where Carlo Collodi, the author of the famous children’s book “Pinocchio” lived and worked. Collodi is only a few miles away from “Vignale”.
A working farm: The “Vignale” farm is operational and produces some of the best olive oil (Olio extra vergine di oliva) that has made Lucca famous world-wide for its quality olive oil.
We had a fabulous holiday staying at this property. The house was spotless and had everything we needed and the pool was fantastic in a beautiful setting. Claudio and Karin were amazing and really helped make the holiday so great. They recommended places to go and made restaurant reservations for us. The property is a great base for exploring Tuscanny and we would love to return again.
We had a wonderful time at this apartment in Tuscany, mainly due to the unfailing kindness and help of the owners Claudio and Karin. Getting around was easy as Lucca was only ten minutes away and had direct trains to Florence. The area was peaceful and the pool and views a delight. We cannot recommend it highly enough.
Dear Anna & Claudio,
Thank you for your warm welcome and hospathelity during our vacation at your place. Are you looking for a house in a small local community near Pisa? With a own very nice swimming pool, lovely garden among the olive trees and great surroundings. Than this is your place.
The house is very comfortable with sits in front and back of the house. Nice cools rooms and because the house is situated against the hills a cool wind in the evening. A nice walk through a little forest to a bar when you can have a nice drink or icecream.
The house and garden are very well maintained. The hosts are always available to help or advice you with everything you need.
I can recommend this place to every one.
We stayed 10 days at Vignale and had the best holiday at this beautiful place. The house and surroundings turned out to be everything we had imagined - and then some. Claudio and Karin were the best hosts and they helped us when our car broke down and with the tricky Italian language.
The property is beautifully located and our two kids (aged 6 and 9) made good use of the swimmingpool and garden.
The holiday home is filled with all amenities and we did not miss anything. It was perfectly suited for two grown-ups and two children.
I would recommend everyone to spend time at Vignale.
We had stayed at LaVignale several years ago and were keen to return both to relax in the gardens/pool area and to visit places we had missed the first time, as well as return to some others. This time we were 4 adults but there was enough room for us, especially as with good weather we could eat out until late each September evening, albeit sometimes with a fleece on.
A car is essential but it isn't far to various facilities. The property has a sense of isolation despite being adjacent to other houses and the view over the olives up to the hills is outstanding. Our favourite restaurant was Giomo's up the hill, an easy walk home but really a drive up!
Claudio recommended travel to Florence by train and parking in Sienna at the station car park, both of which were ideal. Sienna is nearer than you think.
Overall a lovely holiday and maybe one day we'll be back for a third time?
My family and I have just returned from the most amazing 10 days at villa Vignale.
Firstly we want to thank Claudio and his wife Karin for accommodating us for the 10 days as it is usually not an option. From the minute we arrived the hospitality we received was 100% from booking restaurants to fresh fruit and vegetables from their garden.
The location is very peaceful and quiet yet only 10 minutes from shops and restaurants .We have stayed in many different Tuscan villas over the last ten years and this is easily the best one so far. The villas had everything you need, a real home from home. The grounds and pool area are of a very high standard and immaculately clean. There is plenty of room around around the pool for relaxing in the sun or the shade. The pool towels are provided which is another plus factor, also helps with luggage weight. Each morning the bread man comes to the gate at 10:30 - what a service.
We had such a great holiday we will certainly be returning here in the future. Well done to Claudio and Karin this is certainly a labour of love, you have created a little piece of heaven for us holiday makers.

Vignale offers the guest peaceful surroundings in the midst of its olive grove, at the edge of the large pool (10x5) or a shady, cool spot near the brook that borders the property. Segromigno offers a supermarket, butcher and other shops while the local baker delivers fresh bread to the house every day. If you prefer not to cook, there are numerous pizzerias and restaurants within 2 or 3 km of Vignale. For those interested in art & architecture we suggest a visit to the lively historical city of Lucca with its Etruscan and Roman remains and full circle of medieval walls. Its cafes, restaurants and elegant shopping streets are additional attractions. Pisa is only 34 km away, Florence 70 km, Siena 120 km, San Gimignano 100 km. Viareggio and its famous beaches can be reached in little more than half an hour. The picturesque 'Cinque Terre' are only 60 km away, the marble quarries of Carrara a mere 50 km. Further south, in Piombino you can catch the ferry that will take you to Elba.
Other Activities: Jogging, Nordic walking
Golf: In the vicinity of Lucca there are three easily reacheable golf courses: one near Pietrasanta, one in the vicinity of Migliarino near the coast and one near Montecatini. More detailed information about the courses is available from the hosts.
