|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
This marvellous panoramic and terraced apartment, called 'The Turtles' Dream', comprises four bedrooms, three bathrooms, an amazing sitting room, a most ample dining room / kitchen, a very ample terrace / roof garden with panoramic views of Rome's sights, a second terrace to relax, and it is located in an authentic historical noble palace, in the heart of old Rome.
It is located between the Campo de' Fiori and the Jewish quarters, near Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and the Roman Forum. The palace is situated in Piazza Mattei, where you find the famous Turtle Fountain, which can be seen from all its windows. It is one of Rome's most world-acclaimed, and most charming, visited at all times year-round. You find four copies of it only in the US.
The apartment is situated at the highest floor (with elevator), in the famous palace 'Palazzo Costaguti', which you can find illustrated in all history / architecture books and websites about Rome. This high vantage point makes the property bright, and it enables excellent views from its stunning panoramic terrace and also from its windows.
The terrace, which is actually a roof garden, is 80 Sq. Mt. large (app. 820 Sq. Ft.), it is endowed with a charming table with chairs, an ample and most elegant sitting area in 'rattan' (sofa, armchairs, table), deck chairs and an ample parasol. From it you can have your meals 'al fresco', or sip a glass of wine, while enjoying spectacular view of Rome's sights, domes and of old roofs.
The apartment is 210 Sq. Mt. (app. 2,250 Sq. Ft.) large. It is situated at the 3rd European floor (of an old-fashioned palace, consequently it is equal to a 4th European floor and to a 5th American floor). As mentioned it is endowed with *elevator*. The apartment was just perfectly renovated. Each room is wonderful in its own right, for its beautiful tiles, décor, furniture, paintings of old masters. The property is silent, inviting and bright. There is also a charming second terrace with table, perfect for a glass of wine, hobnobbing, or to relax or write emails.
The sitting room is astonishing. It still preserves the original Renaissance (16th century) coffered wooden ceilings, and each of the 168 'lacunars' or coffered frames has a painting of a different species of bird. Throughout all the walls you find also finest frescoes of peacocks, spaced out with the intriguing coat of arms of the patrician family. The floors are also spectacular. They are made with original 'graniglia' tiles with beautiful design, different every room.
All four double bedrooms (two matrimonial and two twin beds) have a peculiar charm, and from them you enjoy a direct view of the famous fountain in the square below (you can also hear its water gushing if you open the windows).
The dining room is very spacious, and together with the large kitchen it forms one large open-plan space of nearly 36 Sq. Mt. (370 Sq. Ft.).
The property is equipped with all mod cons to ensure a most pleasant stay: air conditioning in all rooms, heating, internet Wi-Fi, complete kitchen equipment incl. American coffee percolator, Italian coffee pots, microwave, dishwasher, iron, iron board, fridge, freezer, toaster, orange squeezer, washing machine, clothes dryer, electronic scales.
Also the owners, descendants of the same noble family owning the palace since 1578, will welcome you. They are most hospitable and kindest persons, who will share with you the history of the palace and of the family.

[In the photo: owner Dr. Costaguti and his wife].
Our family purchased this famous historical palace during the Renaissance (1578), and we own it to this day, generation after generation.
Ours is one of the oldest recorded Italian families; the cardinals and a saint in our family contributed to the construction of St. Peter's Basilica. In a totally different world, today we are solar energy entrepreneurs. Nevertheless, we always dedicated ourselves to the community, and we consider hospitality and culture as a mission. We improved the palace, its courts, its décor and all its units throughout the centuries.
We would like you to experience Rome's essence, combining its immense historical and cultural heritage with leisure, yet off the beaten track of stereotypical commercial offers.
We are confident that through our hospitality you will experience Rome's legacy and its charm, combined with memorable leisure.
We look forward to hosting you!

We stayed in beautiful apartments in Paris, Venice, Florence and other sites in Italy and France and this apartment surpasses all of them, in appointments and beauty as well as thanks to your management. We were thrilled to stay in this special location.
It was our first time with VBRO and we were somewhat apprehensive. However, the apartment was fabulous. We have been to Rome many times but we quickly realized that this was a perfect location. The views of the beautiful square and the sound of the fountain were truly memorable. The kitchen was modern and well equipped. The living and dining rooms were large, attractive, and comfortable. Dr. Costaguti was very welcoming and a pleasure to meet. Can't recommend this highly enough.
We enjoyed such a tremendous family vacation in Rome filled with sightseeing, great food and the magic of Italy. Our trip was enhanced by our apartment because of its location, comfort, space and amenities. The owners have truly thought of your every need, from cooking tools (so you can prepare your own Italian masterpiece) to shade on the rooftop desk as you sip limencello as the sun sets over the eternal city. We were met by Morris, the overseer of the property, with warmth, information about the property and a historical context of the family and palace we were about to stay in. Once we were settled from a long day of travelling, the luxury and history of this apartment began to sink in. Because of its age and significance there are a lot of rules around recycling, trash disposal and riding in an antique elevator, however all of this is expected when you live in a foreign country with such antiquity. Our travelling party consisted of my parents (ages in the 70s) and my children (ages 8-14), all of who were comfortable and cared for in this incredible property. Walk to all the sites, enjoy the restaurants that surround you (Morris shates his suggestions so you get authentic experiences)and then retire to the most glorious apartment in Rome. Thank you Morris and Dr. Costaguti for your hospitality! We are so grateful for your kindness and generosity.
We stayed here one glorious week with our four children and two son-in-laws. We have been vacationing in Italy for more than 25 years, since our children were very young, and we have rented homes from Milan to Sicily. Without a doubt this was one of the best experiences we have ever had. The property is exquisite and historic, the location is ideal, and the people are like an extended family! Morris, Clara and Dr. Castaguti made our trip all that more special. Even with challenging airline problems and people arriving at different times, Morris went above and beyond to accommodate. We will be back!
My family and I had the pleasure of staying here for two weeks. Morris made the whole process as stress free as possible and provided an enormous amount time to assure our time was pleasant and comfortable. His knowledge about the city and history is amazing. The check-in/out process went flawlessly. Both Morris and Mr. Costaguti went well out of there way to help us deal with my father, as he suffered a medical condition, for which I and my family will always be extremely grateful.
The property itself was both very clean and very spacious with all the modern amenities. It truly is a dream to wake up every morning and open the windows to the courtyard / fountain below. Our family of seven had plenty of room to both separate as well as congregate. It is located within walking distance to almost every major attraction as well as wonderful restaurants and shops. However, it is a couple blocks removed from the "action" so it is remarkably quiet in the evenings. The pictures(although amazing) don't do the views from the terrace justice, they are absolutely breath-taking.
This was the perfect property for our family to experience the beauty and history of Rome. If we are ever fortunate enough to find our way back to Rome, this will definitely be where we want to stay again. Thank you again Morris! Ciao!
Three friends and I were in Rome for 10 days last November and were lucky enough to stay in the beautiful Turtle's Dream. The apartment is every bit as beautiful as the pictures, as well as spacious, clean and very comfortable, and the location is perfect. The palazzo is within easy walking distance of the ancient sites, the Tiber and Trastevere, and there are several very good restaurants within a few steps. The view from the roof top terrace is spectacular., and the views from all the windows are also wonderful. We really had a feeling of living in the great old city while we stayed there. Both Dr. Abate and Dr. Costaguti were very kind and welcoming and Dr. Abate especially has a vast knowledge of the city, both practical and historic and was so informative and helpful to four tourists unfamiliar with Rome. We hope to be able to go back to Rome someday and could not find a more perfect place to stay.
To celebrate my parents 50th Anniversary we decided to go on a family trip to Rome. With 8 of us going we decided to look into renting an apartment rather than 4 separate hotel rooms. Never having used VRBO before we were a little nervous, but after repeated correspondence with Dr. Abate we felt more at ease. When my Mom had dreams about staying in a palace we knew we just had to stay there. The apartment is truly special and gave us plenty of room for both privacy and family gatherings. It is clear that the apartment is historic, but it has been tastefully updated and has all the modern conveniences. I can't think of a better location, it's just a five minute walk to the Pantheon, Trastevere and the Capitoline museums. We walked everywhere. We were in the midst of a huge city, but a car is rarely seen in the piaza. My Mom would repeatedly gaze out on the Turtle Fountain from her bedroom window. On New Year's we had an incredible 360 degree view of the fireworks around the city from our private terrace. I can't imagine a more incredible view. One evening we had a special authentic meal prepared and hosted by Cristina, Dr. Costaguti's wife. The kitchen and dining area are so beautiful and large it was wonderful to utilize them. Cristina also gave us great suggestions on what to see around Rome that were not in my tour books. Dr. Abate took care of reserving our transportation both at the beginning and end of our stay. Everything went without a hitch. We were e-mailed an exceptionally thorough book explaining how everything worked in the apartment before we arrived. It also contained restaurant and transportation recommendations. I can't imagine that most properties have such resources available. My father said that it was one his most memorable vacations ever and that was in large part due to staying in the Turtles' Dream. If I had to do it over again I would do nothing different. I highly recommend both for the wonderful accommodation and hosts.
This wonderful apartment is located in the heart of Rome, between the Campo de' Fiori and the Jewish Ghetto, and near Piazza Navona. It is situated in the famous historical and noble palace called Palazzo Costaguti, which faces the square called Piazza Mattei, from the name of the opposite aristocratic palace, Palazzo Mattei. The square is famous for its world-acclaimed, wonderful Fontana delle Tartarughe, or Turtles Fountains (1580), considered by most Romans and critics Rome's most beautiful.
The apartment is situated at the higher floor or 'piano nobile' of the fabulous noble 'Palazzo Costaguti' palace, one of Rome's most famous, and it is owned to this day by the aristocratic family. It is a truly a wonderful and most elegant property.
Both the apartment and the noble owner (descendant of a family counting kings, viceroys, saints and cardinals) are very inviting and will make you feel instantly at home - the one you always dreamed of, with the kindest landlord.
Nearby you also find all Rome's sights, churches, monuments, squares, palazzi, fountains, places of interest, historical landmarks, parks, museums, academies, and let's not forget the numberless restaurants, cafes, bars, shops (including those of artisans), artists' clubs, cinemas, and theatres. All these sights and places can be easily reached on foot, and if you don't feel like it, there is a taxi stand nearby, and public transport is efficient, fast and well organized.
In addition to enabling you to see and enjoy all Rome's wonderful sights, the quarter has a very homely feel. There are scores of family-run grocery stores (each with its peculiar specialty), bakers, confectioneries ('pasticcerie'), renowned and inviting restaurants, art and book shops, artisans shops. Shop owners are very welcoming and you will feel immediately part of the local community.
The apartment is situated between three of Rome's most famous central districts, with a completely different personality: 1) Piazza Navona with its elegant square, the marvellous fountains and churches and the chic, Dolce Vita atmosphere; 2) Campo de' Fiori, Rome's liveliest area, with its morning market, its grocery shops, and its bohemian character. 3) The Jewish Ghetto, with its unique ancient charm, its millenary inhabitants and traditions, its historical shops / restaurants / and also with Jewish sights (the main synagogue, Rome's Jewish Museum etc.).
In the end, you couldn't find a more elegant, large and complete property, situated in a most authentic and historical Roman palace, in a uniquely quintessential Rome location.
