About Susan Metzger
I am an artist and teacher. When I moved to Colorado from the Virgin Islands after Hurricane Hugo, I looked at a lot of houses. I fell in love with this one immediately and felt extremely lucky to purchase this home in 1991. I've always loved old houses - and my artwork is of historic architecture.
Susan Metzger purchased this Bungalow in 1991
Why Susan Metzger chose Palisade
When I married 9 years ago, I couldn't give up this house, I had spent years planting roses and exotic plants - and it had lots of happy memories. When I moved in, the house had the original wooden shingle roof covered with moss, and the original wiring. I only had 6 outlets! I sadly redid the roof in 2002 when it started to leak, and I had the wiring redone and added an outlet in the bathroom in 1997. My mother is in her 80's and if she decides to move to Colorado, I want her to be able to move into this wonderful place where you can walk to the grocery, library. post office and bakery.
What makes this Bungalow unique
Few of the houses in Palisade have as many original features. Sash windows, pine floor, high ceilings, wooden pantry. The entry to the basement is a trap door. And a bubble bath in the original clawfoot bathtub has been a constant pleasure. Enjoy a quiet old fashioned pace of life.

Perfect stay in Palisade
Wonderful cottage and perfect located in Palisade for easy walking access to everything - wineries, brewery, the main square and the dog park. We loved the charm of the cottage.
Beautiful spot; close to everything we love; great coffee, food, and outdoor activities. Spacious, comfortable and charming
I’m so glad you had a good time and everything worked out!
Nice Quit Stay Near Downtown
The whole process was quick and easy. Susan responds right away, and the house was great. Backyard is very peaceful, and it is just a short walk to downtown Palisade.
Great Wine Festival stay
We enjoyed our stay at Lavender Cottage for the Wine Festival. We were so close to everything and it was so convenient, we didn't have to get in the car once the whole weekend. Susan was so easy to work with and get a hold of. Thanks again for everything.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the house and your stay in Palisade. Thanks for taking good care of the place!
Great weekend getaway
We really enjoyed our stay here with 2 friends and their pup! Check in/out was super easy, the kitchen was well equipped for cooking most of our meals, and the back patio was perfect for coffee in the morning. While most of the wineries are too far to walk the proximity to town was perfect. This is a great rental for a couple (or 2) or a small family. We'd definitely stay again :)
I’m so glad you had a good time. And hope you got to lots of wineries, too.
A Piece of Palisade History
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Susan and Gary’s home. The landscaping offered a nice reprieve from the heat and the location was central to downtown. Best of all, we were able to bring our dogs with us and let them play in the fenced in yard.
Palisade is famous for peaches, and is the center of Colorado Wine Country. Agritourism abounds - visit fruit and lavender farms, tour wineries in town and on East Orchard Mesa, high above the Colorado River. In town visit our Blue Pig Art Gallery,Palisade Brewery, Peachtree Distillery. Cycle along the Bike trail that follows the Colorado River or ride the country roads among the orchards.
