Hanalei House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

We offer a lovely plantation-style home, in the middle of Hanalei, on majestic Hanalei Bay... Steps to the Beach, Hear the Surf!

World famous Hanalei Bay, voted the number one beach in America is less than 200 yards away and will provide you with the ultimate beach-going experience. Take in the sunrise, waterfalls, rainbows, boats, surfers, Bali Hai sunsets and incredible ocean beauty, while you try to figure out which parts of the mountains make up 'puff the magic dragon.' Bay activities include: snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, surfing, bodyboarding, hiking, walking, jogging, and, of course, relaxing.

The home is situated in a tropical park-like setting. From the large covered lanai, you can watch the Waioli river flow by on its way to the Bay or kayak/SUP/paddle down the river to the ocean. Enjoy an incredibly romantic sunset as the sun disappears behind the NaPali Coast line, or gaze at one of the largest and oldest monkey pod trees on the island and ponder its strength as it has withstood multiple tsunamis and three hurricanes. The home's interior won't let you forget you are in Hawaii as it welcomes you with aloha. Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, vaulted exposed beam ceilings, and old-style plantation details invite you to relax. The gourmet kitchen includes all stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and cherry cabinets. There are two large king bed bedroom suites, each with closet, private toilet, bath tub and shower and vaulted ceilings with fans. Additionally, one of the suites has a top-bunk twin bed. The tradewinds fanning the palms and the sounds of the ocean will sooth you all night long.

Historic Hanalei town is a five to 10 minute walk away. Excellent restaurants, quaint shops, grocery and health food stores, farmer's markets, activities desks, yoga, Pilates, day spa, massage, surf shops and churches are all conveniently located in Hanalei town. Princeville resort and spa are just a five minute drive up the hill, offering you three world class golf courses, tennis and a day spa.

This home is perfect for families up to five or one to two couples with or without children. Please note, this house is non-smoking and Hawaiian style, meaning no shoes are worn inside the house.

About Lauren Benton

I've experienced most every hike, surf break, beach, waterfall, restaurant and activity possible on Kauai and am happy to share that info with you.

Lauren Benton purchased this house in 2001

Why Lauren Benton chose Kauai

Having lived in multiple houses/locations in Hanalei we realized it's rare to find a home that isn't right next door to another. While this home is adjacent to another home, it's also adjacent to a 1/2 acre lot that rolls down to the Waioli Stream and offers beautiful views, a peaceful setting and a feeling of being a bit away from it all (even though you're right in town and a couple blocks from the beach).

What makes this house unique

Na Pali mountain view, short walk to the beach and ocean.

No river access or front lawn anymore

  • 2 of 5

We (2 adults, 1 child) stayed here for 4 nights last month. It's a nice, well-kept, and well-equipped house and currently has a nice view of the river and mountains from the living room and one of the bedrooms. But be aware that the big lot between the house and the river (what the listing describes as "the front lawn") is no longer part of the property. It's recently been sold. We were excited based on the descriptions from the reviews here about taking a kayak or SUP to the beach, so it was super disappointing when Lauren emailed us the day we checked in saying we could not use the grassy area right in front of the house and could not access the river at all. We probably would have rented another place if we had known the lawn and river were now "look, don't touch" , so I hope I'm catching future renters in time as the description of the property still talks up "river access" and front yard. That's not correct. It's still just a short trip to the beach and to town, which is nice, but your only way to do that now is by walking/biking along the highway. Also not apparent from the description online is that all the current neighbors are really close -- the kitchen and living room windows look right at someone else's front door. And the windows in one of the bedrooms is flush with the neighbor's driveway. Once the owners of the empty lot build their place, this one will be really boxed in. Which brings up another point. I would imagine the owners of the river lot will be doing construction soon, so keep that risk in mind when deciding where to stay. The property line ends just a few feet from the front porch so the construction work could be really close.

Owner's Response: The lot next door is still owned by the same person and they have owned it for many years without building on it - we do not expect that to change anytime soon. We do ask that renters respect the neighbor's property and not use it without permission. Of course if our neighbor did decide to build on this lot we would let any future renters know beforehand. Regarding access to the ocean and river for kayak's and SUP boards it is literally 2 short blocks away - just a few minute walk along slow roads with large grass "sidewalks". The homes right on hanalei beach go for $2,000 - $10,000 a night. Waioli Hale has many of the same (and often higher grade) amenities, like a Weber grill, new, high-quality, comfortable mattresses/pillows, high thread-count sheets, modern appliances and cookware, etc. etc.). We and our past renters feel our home is one of the best deals on the Island and our 30 reviews and 5-star average speaks for itself. The comment about having to walk along a "highway" to get to the beach made us laugh - it is a slow island road (one lane each way) with a speed limit of 25 mph and people rarely go that fast (especially near our home where they have to slow down for the single lane bridge). Plus there is a large grassy sidewalk the whole way that feels great on bare feet. The gorgeous views of the NaPali Coast, the Waoili Stream and the half acre open area are certainly still available (and will continue to be so as long as those natural wonders exist). We have many, many repeat renters and one of the best reviewed homes in Hanalei. It is true that this house, and almost every house in Hanalei, is fairly close to other homes. This is a beach community and if you look on google maps satellite view you will see that all the homes in the area are close together. Our home is built to code with similar distance to neighboring homes, but one of the huge advantages of Waioli Hale is that it only has a home on one side (vs. 3 which is more common), and has the large, empty lot for the whole front of the home, including lanai. Everyone in the area is very respectful and we have great neighbors so renters have not had an issue with this in the past (see our many, many 5-star reviews over the years).

Wonderful Week in Hanalei

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing place to stay in Hanalei. I was worried about it being on the Highway but that is not an issue at all. Trees block the view and provide privacy. After sunset, the town quiets down along with traffic. Sitting on the porch with morning coffee and watching all the different birds arrive along the river was just the serenity I needed. We walked to town and took the bikes. Took the chairs and beach towels they provide to the beach. They even provide a beach bag.

Zero stress, zero hassle, amazing beach life setup

  • 5 of 5

We were two couples and a newborn and left Waiole Hale extremely happy with our choice. Amazing amounts of beach gear, long boards, masks, slightly janky beach cruiser bikes, coolers and a beach kart to carry everything. SUP would be a great addition :) Nice sunset views on the lanai (couple of extra seats would be great) and even better around the corner on the beach. Really well stocked and comfortable modern house, washer dryer, towels, baby gear, everything you need on the kitchen, WiFi etc. If you want complete total privacy then look elsewhere, Hanalei is a town so youre gonna have neighbors and some cars going by. But worth it for the convenience. The river is pretty cool too, paddled to the beach on it. Great base for north shore stuff like surf snorkel kee beach and some of the best hikes. Throw in cocktails at the St Regis and makai golf too. We had no problems getting there, finding the place, ended up never actually meeting Lauren but all instructions were clear and easy. Book this place for authentic Hanalei beach living. We'd definitely book again.

family of 5 w/ kids age 3-6-8

  • 4 of 5

Loved this place! The house is beautiful and in a great location. Easy walk to the beach & town with plenty of dining and shopping options nearby. My family loved breakfast on the big front deck , hunting for lizards in the yard & paddling down river to Hanalei Bay.

Only downsides were no a/c , which I think is typical for homes on the island & close proximity to the road. However, the property is bordered with hedges & trees along the road side that make it feel very private.

Lauren was very hospitable & provided great suggestions for places to see.

I would absolutely stay again & recommend this home.

Great North Shore House Rental

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed this VRBO house - the house itself was very lovely with wood floors, ceiling fans in every room and lots of beach toys (bikes, boggie boards). It is close to the main road but right by a single lane bridge (no speeding cars driving fast near house) and a short 3 block walk to a beach. The North Shore is a great quite place to enjoy & relax in Kauai - the best island in Hawaii.

Great Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed 8 nights and had a great time. With three teenagers, it's pretty important to have plenty to do. This location didn't disappoint. They were able to carry surf boards to the ocean, fish a little, SUP on river & get a little shopping done in Hanalei. My wife loved to get up early for the sun rises and walk down to the Hanalei Coffee Roasters.

As this was our first trip to Kauai, Lauren was extremely helpful with recommendations on guides for some of our excursions. The house was very clean and comfortable. It was exactly what we wanted.
