My family (from Canada) has been vacationing in Turks and Caicos for over 9 years. As tourists we have had many meals with the local restaurants, chartered day trips to the other islands (Cays) Pine, Parrot, Dellis Middle and North Caicos. Fishing charters, island exploring, snorkeling the reefs right off the beach, para-sailing and kiteboarding are some of our favorite activities on the island. Our whole family became PADI Certified Scuba Diver's during a one week stay a few years ago. The places to see and things to do while on vacation in Turks are endless.
We purchased two homes side by side so that extended families such as ours had a fun place to stay with the ultimate in privacy and location.
Grace Bay Beach House Villa is right next door, 3 bedroom and can be rented in conjunction with Ocean Villa next door for extended families. VRBO# 491557
Kathy McLeod purchased this villa in 2013
My 11 girlfriends and I vacationed here this past April for my bachelorette party and couldn't have been happier! Kathy was a pleasure to work with and Joe (the house manager) was available whenever we had a question regarding the house during our stay. The house is well stocked with everything you could need and having the pool, with the ocean close by allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds! Thank you Kathy and Joe for making this a trip we will never forget. - Kaitlin
Our group of 7 ranged in age from 18 to 80. We all had a great time. If you have not been to TCI, I would highly recommend it. This is my 5th time using VRBO and recommend it to all of my friends and coworkers.
First, the house. We had everything we needed for our entire group. Privacy when desired and plenty of space when the whole group was together. The large dining table was nice for the times we cooked dinner on the supplied gas grill. Bedrooms were nicely appointed and the outdoor shower was experienced by each one. Coming from the northern US made this a special treat. Joe stopped by each day to make sure we had everything and quick smile.
Second, the pool was really a great relaxing location. Our autistic son really enjoyed it and it became our gathering point for early AM coffee, afternoon naps and evening cool downs. Having the shaded area by the pool was a bonus for those times when you needed a break from the sun. It was always kept clean by Joe.
The beach is incredible. Only a very short, easy walk that probably takes less than a minute. We almost always had most of the area to ourselves, never, ever crowded. Peaceful, beautiful and an amazing shade of blue that I can't even begin to describe. We used the snorkeling gear as well as the kayaks for some additional adventure. If you get a chance take a walk/drive/kayak up to the marina and view some of the gigantic boats.
TCI - the airport is small enough to easily negotiate. Our AVIS rental is offsite a bit so a shuttle picked us up. The pickup/dropoff area of the airport is quite busy. Remember, in TCI, you drive on the left side of the road. Those roundabouts will require your attention. Groceries at the IGA are well stocked but more expensive than what you are accustomed to back home. We found plenty of restaurants and Kathy has some nice suggestions. We also went to the Thursday evening event where multiple food vendors are on hand plus live music. It was a lot of fun and a chance to compare.
Overall, I can't say enough good things about our entire vacation. Kathy was great to work with and we loved starting our day with Joe's smile during his daily check-in. Our only real issue was a broken belt on the clothes dryer which Joe took care of promptly. TCI is on our short list of places we intend to come back to in the future.
Ocean Villa is a very private 5 Bdrm Home located only a short walk to the Blue Carribean waters along Pelican Beach in the quiet development of Leeward on the northeast side of the island. The 83 degree clear water was calm and welcoming and provided great snorkeling opportunities..particularly along the stone covered point only 150 yards from the beach access where you can meet "Barry" the 4- foot Barracuda. Another daily treat at the beach was throwing a deflated football into the sea for "Bravo", a very energetic Jack Russell belonging to one of the locals, to retrieve. This was fun for all! Provo is a small island and is very easy to navigate...a rental car is a must. Smith's Reef, a superb snorkeling site with coral heads, sponges, and sea fans (and lots of sea life of course), is only 10-minute drive from Ocean Villa. We also enjoyed wall scuba diving with Caicos Adventures along West Caicos, about a 40-minute boat ride from the south side of Provo. Visibility of 100+ feet in the calm, clear waters made the diving spectacular.
We had a few minor issues during our stay and Joe, the resident property manager, was always immediately available when an issue arose. The service provided was excellent! We had the opportunity to meet Bryan and Kathy during our visit as they were staying at another one of their nearby villas...what a nice couple!! Thank you for letting us share your home!! Bryan took the time to personally make sure our pool was in perfect condition and Kathy made my wife's day by bringing her a chilled fresh coconut to drink from while sunning at the beach.
The air conditioning in the bedrooms, with provided fans, made sleeping very comfortable. We only used the AC at night and were able to stay within the $100 allotment during our 8-day stay. Covers to shade the skylights during the heat of the day and an air conditioner in the family room would be nice additions to the home.
Definitely recommend bringing a deet based repellant to keep away the Mosquitos and sand flys, or "no see-ums". They, too, enjoy the tropical climate and are plentiful.
We really enjoyed our visit to Turks and Caicos...and look forward to visiting again soon. We would recommend renting any of the properties that Bryan and Kathy have to offer. You will enjoy the personalized service, in a secluded private setting. Be sure to stop by "Da Conch Shack" during your stay for the freshest Conch Ceviche you will ever have. The rum punch isn't bad either ;-)
Hummingbird Villa is, with all intentional triteness, just outstanding. After having returned to the States following a 7-day stay, our three family entourage continues to moan about the return to the every day, labor intense world. We were spoiled with the wonderful accommodation, the cooling breezes, an amazing beach and the warmth of the island's inhabitants. It all just made remarkable sense. Our gracious hostess and owner made sure that all questions were answered prior to takeoff and if we had onsite issues, the always available house monitor, Joe, would be there to relieve any tensions. The home just forced us to relax and enjoy nature’s exquisite beauty. We took every opportunity to explore the island (restaurants, boat rides, walks on the beach), so to become naturalized, but we always longed to return to our new “second home”. We were never far away from whatever creature comforts we needed and, if there was a delay, Joe would be there to help. In addition, when we weren’t sleeping off delicious meals we were resting on the soft sands of the nearby ocean, drinks in hand and toes buried deep. Did we mention the sunset photo op? Eight people immersed in the quiet seclusion of nature’s beauty.
Should we do it again? Absolutely! Our next reservation with be on the calendar before yours.
The whole family gathered to celebrate my elder brother's 70th: his wife and siblings, their spouses, a nephew and a granddaughter. Everyone is fit and was born with gills. It was perfect for us, a group of ten ranging in age from 70 to 10. Joe, the on site property manager, greeted us at the house with rum punch and a clear explanation of the house, the pool, and the alarm system.
During the first afternoon swim, my sister-in-law, her daughter and I swam at marvelous Leeward beach a stone's throw from the house. The water is is an extraordinary aqua. During one of our first swims I saw a huge manta ray breech. No worries, it was far away, but so huge, clearly visible! They do not sting or bite as they have no natural predators. Seeing this huge creature raise from the lagoon into the air, curl it's wings and smack down, I took as a "Welcome to Turks and Caicos" hello.
Our group snorkeled together on a boat off the reef; one person got her scuba diving certificate, the ten year old never left one body of water or another. We ate at many restaurants; both chic and simple. When people tell you that NO ONE dresses up for dinner even at the fanciest restaurants, they mean it. Pack light and relax, no stilettos needed, flip flops and shorts only! Like the island, people appreciate natural beauty. The house is terrific for a laid back vacation with a large close group. It's light, airy, and clean. The kitchen area is perfect. The BBQ was a great way for us to eat at home. Edward comes daily to check the pool water level and chlorination. William is in the garden daily. They are there but unobtrusive. Joe is available at a moment's notice to help with any inquiry. Food prices on the island are a bit higher than in the States, but you can find anything. A gourmet cook will be happy.
I'd agree with others here about the 'no see ums', they are plentiful. Bring bug spray. One weekend night there must have been a wedding nearby as the music continued til 2am. but we looked at it as free entertainment.
It was a fabulous vacation. Thank you McLeod clan!
The best of all worlds. The villa was ideal with shade for some, poolside for others. The indoors was comfortable for all 11 of us. Joe checked in on us every day just to make sure everything was perfect. The beautiful beach is readily available, almost deserted, great for swimming and sunning. The water is exquisite! The island is easy to navigate to other beaches, marinas, restaurants, shopping. About half of my party had reactions to bug bites (noseeums). Be sure to take bug spray and afterbite care. Definitely won't stop us from going back.
