Dar Mussarat is a delightful 18th century, cute 6-bed house in the historic, walled town of Essaouira – an Atlantic coast World Heritage Site. Split over 4 floors around a central courtyard, Dar Mussarat comprises 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 1 salon and 2 terraces with spectacular sea views and sleeps up to 10 people.
Although the house is advertised as self catering, it is looked after by the superb Khadija who visits daily to carry out daily household chores and ensure all is OK with our guests. She is also a fantastic cook and can provide meals. Many guests end up wishing they could take her back home with them! Dar Mussarat is located moments away from the main square, fishing port and long, white sandy beach. It is a great holiday home for a large family or group of friends.
Essaouira Region: Essaouira is a historic, walled town and an Atlantic coast UNESCO World Heritage Site, just a few hours west of Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains. The bohemian town where Jimi Hendrix liked to hang out is a perfect spot to unwind, eat great seafood and absorb the laid back and atmospheric scene.
To the west of the Medina the rampart walls and fortifications drop directly into the Atlantic with a picturesque fishing port filled with bright blue boats, while a few minutes walk from the main square, the wide beach curves around the bay.
One of the few places in Morocco to be popular in the summer months as the Atlantic breeze ensures that the temperatures rarely stray past 35 degrees, almost year round blue sky's ensure a wonderful trip whatever the season. However, low season is commonly thought of as November to February when the nights can be cold and the weather more unpredictable.
Ancient Medina: THE MEDINA - Designed in the mid 1700's by a French architect, the medina is an intriguing fusion of French-style piazzas with traditional subterranean passages, vaulted alleys and traditional courtyard houses. Its whitewashed buildings, with ornate doorways and windows painted blue to match the sky, are enclosed by intact pink fortifications. Packed with shops and stalls selling handicrafts, jewellery, spices, leather goods and the famous local argon oil it is the ideal place to while away the hours, before relaxing at one of the numerous cafe's or enjoying a massage at a local hammam.
THE PORT & THE RAMPARTS - Skala de la ville is the impressive sea bastion built along the cliffs. Its is home to a collection of European brass cannons from the 18th and 19th centuries and has great views out to sea. Locals and tourist alike gather here to watch the sun disappear over the horizon. The port, bustling with ship-builders and fishing boats is a great place to eat freshly caught seafood

We are a British couple residing in Hertfordshire, England. Zahid works in IT as an Oracle database developer and Salva runs Dar Papillon, a Vegan and vegetarian cafe and Health food shop selling Organic and ethically sourced produce.
We first visited Morocco in December 2006. Liked Marrakesh, but fell in love with Essaouira. We then spent 3 years searching for a holiday home and Voilà .... here we are !
Salva and Zahid purchased this house in 2009
Beautiful property with retained original features restored in a minimalist style to create a sense of peace and tranquility.
Beautiful sea views, 3 aspects and great mews location.
6 women having a beautiful time together. The riad was cosy and lovely, perfect size for us and just far away from the main shopping street – perfect location.
Very clean and freshly painted in neutral colours, no garish ‘this is Morocco’. We all had beautiful bedrooms with great attention to detail. Everything we needed in the kitchen. We decided to cook a large tajine together and there wasn’t a big enough dish – Rachid arrived with one for us within hours.
Salva & Zahid were very attentive and friendly when organising our trip.
Highly recommend their lovely place, you’ll feel home from home. xxx
Nice house, gets better the higher up you go. We were a couple with 2 teenagers. Rachid extremely helpful guy. The roof terrace could do with some proper sun loungers though. The location is great, in the heart of the medina. Your never far from anything in Essaouira it's so small. Could walk to the beach. The house is big enough for a large group but the dining table only seats 4. The downstairs is quite dark and small, we didn't really cook as it's so cheap to eat out. We went in August which is Ramadam so drinking alacahol is frowned upon, you can buy it from supermarkets though. We had travelled from agadir which is an amazing drive past stunning beaches. Essaouira is a Magical place I can highly recommend it for all ages. Ps. It gets cold at night even in August so bring a jumper
Really enjoyed the stay in this beautifully decorated 300 year old house, yet with all modern conveniences. Very peaceful, full of tranquility perfect to recharge the batteries.
Khadija looked after us as though we were one of her own, a very genuine and conscientious lady taking pride in keeping the house spotlessly clean. Her cooking was amazing yet very reasonably priced. Rachid and Khalid were full of local knowledge and always willing to help. Great sea view and amazing decorative plaster work. The only gripe was that Essaouira's drainage and sewerage system was being overhauled so it was difficult to walk on the streets nearby, but I can't blame the house staff for that.
A refreshintgly different experience. Can't wait to go back ! Thanks!
Seven of us stayed here for a week. The riad is in a most convenient location for the medina with shops, restaurants, banks etc very easily accessible. It is very good value for money. We would have liked a dining room where all of us could have eaten together. Rachid was accommodating and very easy to deal with; all the arrangements worked well and the facilities were just what we had expected. On request, Khadija made us a delicious breakfast and her patisseries were better than we got inthe shops. She also generously treated us to home made cakes. A good time was had by all.
The house is a delightful riad with excellent access to the main streets of the medina. Everything is in really good condition and the arrangements for getting us and our baggage to the riad were impeccable. The house-keeping arrangements were similarly brilliant and we were delighted with the ad hoc in-house cooking. Whilst the individual bedrooms were all fine as doubles we found the eating courtyard simply not adequate for the seven of us who were staying there, let alone the advertised 10; we had to eat in shifts!
I would recommend this as a most worthwhile holiday letting, but perhaps only for six.
We stayed in Morocco for 10 days and it was totaly the best place and one of the best places I have visited ever! Probably the best location in all the Essaouira (in the heart of medina), wonderful seaview from the terrace. This villa is very nice, calm and perfectly decorated inside in moroccian style. We also had wonderful fam, who cooked for us pencakes with chocolate, fresh sardines with lemon and etc. I totaly recommend it for everyone who wants to have a perfect time in unique, genuine and incredible Essaouira. We will definately choose this villa for our next stay in Essaouira!
