We're recently retired professionals who have lived in the Middleburg area for the past 25 years. I spent over 30 years in the Washington defense contracting community and founded a consulting firm. My husband, Jim, practiced medicine as an anesthesiologist. Now that we're no longer commuting to Northern VA, we have time to enjoy our farm on a full-time basis and look forward to making the guest house available to others who appreciate the solitude and beauty of this area. Originally from Louisville, KY, I moved to Washington in 1982 after earning a Masters degree in International Business. I lived in Georgetown and Chevy Chase, D.C. for several years before migrating to farms in Upperville, Warrenton and Middleburg so that I could keep my horses at home rather than boarding them in Middleburg. I've fox hunted in Virginia, Maryland and also in Ireland and enjoyed competing in combined training events as well as playing polo on the womens' adult amateur team at UVA. I've travelled overseas extensively, as has Jim, and we spent 2 weeks on a private African safari in Botswana and Zimbabwe on our honeymoon. Recently, I've enjoyed becoming more involved in the community. I have been the Basketball Program Director and Varsity Head Coach at the Foxcroft School, a girls' boarding high school located down the road. I played as a kid and love the sport! And in April 2019 my husband and I graduated from the Virginia Master Naturalist Program at the Banshee Reek Nature Preserve which opens up so many opportunities for volunteer service. Jim speaks Spanish and Russian. He grew up on Long Island where he was a life guard at Jones' Beach and enjoyed frequent sojourns into NYC. We're both PADI certified Advanced scuba divers. Jim earned a degree in Biochemistry at Johns Hopkins and attended Georgetown Medical School, completing his residency at George Washington University. He recently retired from practice after taking care of patients for 25 years.

Why Carol chose Middleburg
Having interests in horses and a love of nature, we couldn't imagine a better place to live than Middleburg. The area attracts people from all over the world who are accomplished, interested in the sporting life, share a love of animals and a respect for nature. Visitors can't believe we live in such a pristine setting, yet we're just 30 minutes from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). Living in Middleburg provides a rare opportunity to enjoy a rural yet elegant lifestyle with access to the highest quality entertainment, cultural events, museums and international cuisine.
What makes this House unique
Our property is unique in many ways. We're fortunate that our farm is bounded by Beaverdam Creek, a bold stream that flows year round and is a magnet for all kinds of wildlife. There is a one-lane bridge at the head of our driveway and we often see people pausing to take photos of the bridge, our pasture and horses. We also have an unrestored Civil War era log cabin which is visible from Foxcroft Rd. near the farm entrance. Civil War artifacts have been found on our property, located less than half a mile from a Civil War battleground near the village of Unison. Indian artifacts dating back several hundred years can be found at the base of the cliffs overlooking Beaverdam Creak. Jim and I live on the property and are available to answer any questions guests might have about the farm or local attractions. We've spent the last 20 years improving Brookcliffe and it's truly heaven on earth for the two of us to live here. We work outside together every day, weather permitting, and notice the changes from season to season, such as Red Tailed Hawk nests on our floodplain, Bald Eagles hunting from branches above the creek, wild turkeys in the woods around the house, Pileated Woodpeckers visiting our bird feeders and the Red Fox kits frolicking in our back meadow in the Spring. We're so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place!

Fun cousin getaway
We had a family wedding nearby and this was the ideal place to call home for our family. Cousins roamed the property, fed the horses, swam in the pool, played cornhole, and soaked in the hot tub. Clean, well-stocked, excellent home.
Plenty of space available and the owner had coffee and some breakfast items stocked for our convenience
Beautiful house, lovely location, excellent host.
I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a Middleburg vacation. The house slept 10 guests very comfortably, the amenities were lovely and Carol was everything you would want in a host. 10/10!
Brookcliffe Farm is a truly gorgeous spot!
We spent Labor Day weekend at Brookcliffe Farm, 6 adults and 3 small children. We were all in heaven. The children never got out of the beautiful swimming pool except to visit the horses, to play with the dogs or to pop in the hot tub.
Carol and Jim are hands down the most lovely hosts we have
experienced. They thought of everything, treats for the children including taking them on their rounds to care for the horses. And treats for the adults as well - local wine, their own pickles and honey.
In addition, the area in general is gorgeous with lots to see and do.
A great long weekend.
Thank you so much, Juliet. It hasn't happened often in the five years that we have made our property available online that we've enjoyed a family as much as yours! It's truly gratifying to know that guests are experiencing our farm exactly the way that we do every day--taking care of the horses and feeding them their favorite treats--carrots; playing with our two great farm dogs, Finn and Faye; exploring the farm hiking trail that parallels Beaverdam Creek; "rescuing" creatures like frogs and toads who wander into the pool; taking dips in the hot tub; and children enthusiastically leaping into the back of our RTV as we made our afternoon rounds. We appreciated hearing from you that your grandchildren said, "This is the best vacation ever!. Please consider a return visit anytime.

Great Home for a Family Get-Together
My family wanted to celebrate my brother's 50th wedding anniversary and we wanted a place where we could all spend as much quality time together as possible, but none of us had a home that was big enough. This place was PERFECT! We wound up with 9 adults and 2 kids (2 adults weren't able to make it), and it had everything we needed. A gorgeous backyard with large pool, a hot tub for 6, great outdoor patios and a big covered patio as well. There were also plenty of bedrooms. We brought lots of swim toys and other toys/games for the kids but we could have even left those home. The home comes well equipped with lots of toys/games. Also PLENTY of towels, VERY comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen and baths, great outdoor grill, plenty of dishes, large tables, etc. But what made it really special were all the little extras. The owners are wonderful hosts. They knew we were celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary, so there were 2 wine glasses with "50" on them!! They also went out of their way to mark a hiking trail and leave "maps" to the trail that the grandkids loved! They also let the kids feed the horses and took the time to answer all their questions. They were unobtrusive, but readily available whenever we had a question. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to host a family gathering, and will look forward to returning ourselves.
Thank you, Myra. Jim and I thoroughly enjoyed having your family stay at Brookcliffe and would love to have you back anytime! It's always so gratifying to know that guests are experiencing our farm the way we do every day. Please plan another visit to our farm soon!
