Oceanfront 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom

We are renting our Ohana (i.e. guesthouse). The unit is attached to our home, but is very private and doesn't have any shared walls. It is separated from our home by a breezeway and large Lanai. It comes with it's own private entrance and covered parking. The Ohana is 1000 square feet which includes: 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, living/dining space and kitchenette. See photographs for interior details.

Our Ohana boasts an open floor plan with ocean views from the living and dining space, the kitchenette and the bedroom. It has bamboo and tile flooring throughout and granite countertops. The unit has the basics for preparing simple meals, including an outdoor gas grill. We provide free Wi-Fi and streaming Netflix for your enjoyment.

The property is conveniently located with a private driveway and gate directly off Hawaii Belt Road (Highway 19). The home is surrounded by 3 acres of tropical flora, including fruit trees, palm trees and fishpond with no other home in sight. Extremely private, yet easy to find and located 13 miles from historic downtown Hilo and 15 miles from the Hilo Airport.

About Sandy & Bob Nutt

We are originally from California, but have always had a love for Hawaii. I spent childhood vacations visiting my grandfather in Maui and we've been coming to the Big Island to visit my father since he retired here in 2000. My husband and I are both serving in the US Navy.

No need for AC or central heat in Hawaii, the louver windows open to bring in the breeze. Ceiling fans hang in dining area and bedroom and an oscillating stand fan is at your disposal. No access to on-site laundry facilities. Dry cleaning and laundry facilities are located in Hilo.

The million dollar views, the grounds, the house itself.

Relaxing with a view

The Cliff House was everything described. Loved the ocean, coqui frog sounds in the evening to lull you to sleep. This was our second stay and loved it as much as the first time. Awesome views of the ocean. Sunrises in the morning. Saw whales several times. Everything you need was there. Loved walking the yard and all the fruit trees, beautiful. Great base for short trips to Hilo, Hamakua Coast attractions. About 45 minutes to Volcanoes National Park. When we stay on the Hilo side again this is where our "home" base will be. Very clean and taken care of place.

Dazzling Ocean View in a Peaceful, Private Location

This guest house is 15-20 minutes north of Hilo and overlooks the ocean--beautiful sunrises and moonlight on the water. Nicely landscaped yard is very private. Inside of guest house is attractively furnished and has an almost complete kitchen (cooktop instead of a stove with oven).We didn't miss the oven because baking isn't big on our list when vacationing! And there is a toaster oven. Our hosts were very responsive when we had questions. I definitely recommend this property if you're staying in the Hilo area.

Amazing view

The cliff house was the perfect get away!! Beautiful view and close to shopping/food and waterfalls. Volcano was only about 45 miles away. Highly recommend this beautiful little home.

Beautiful location and home

We very much enjoyed staying in this lovely home, surrounded by beautiful trees and overlooking the ocean. The kitchen is well equipped and maintained, except for an an electric kettle. For tea-drinkers, the microwave doesn't quite do it! This was our third visit to the Big Island, and we chose this location to discover new walking trails within an hour's drive, as well as for its wonderful view and surroundings. Light sleepers may be bothered by early-morning trucks barreling down the highway. Patience is needed to deal with the lock on the front gates - but it can be mastered if you stay long enough!

Owner's Response: You know you love the Big Island when it's your third trip back, haha. Mahalo for the great suggestion of an electric kettle, we will add that to the kitchen as we are tea drinkers too and know how well they work. The guests have been seeing lots of whales this season from the cliff which adds to the beauty of the property. We just replaced the lock as we too were having problems with it, sorry for the inconvenience it caused. Hope you can make a fourth trip to the island some day. Aloha and Mahalo

I reviewed some of our favorite local attractions on gogobot so you can check those out and you can see what other people are saying about them. Locally, I think Kolekole Beach Park, the little town of Honomu, and Akaka falls are must sees (and all located in or on the way to Honomu, 2 miles from our house). If you want to do something adventurous try ziplining (we recommend Skyline Akaka Falls - also located in Honomu). Downtown Hilo is 13 miles away and has just about everything you'll need in the way of restaurants, grocery stores, museums, and other outdoor activities. The nearest airport is 15 miles away, also in Hilo.
