About Sandy & Bob Nutt
We are originally from California, but have always had a love for Hawaii. I spent childhood vacations visiting my grandfather in Maui and we've been coming to the Big Island to visit my father since he retired here in 2000. My husband and I are both serving in the US Navy.
Sandy & Bob Nutt purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Sandy & Bob Nutt chose Hakalau
For us, it was all about the view. We love waking up to beautiful sunrises over the water and seeing waves crash along the rugged coastline. We hope you will come stay and fall in love with it like we have!

This was our second time at this property and it was as lovely as ever. The sunrise and large yard with lots of area to explore make it a great place for our base of operations while on the Big Island..
It's always a pleasure to have you back again. We're so glad that you enjoyed the property just as much as the first time. Hawaii is addictive with all it's beauty so we hope you get to come back again. Aloha and Mahalo
Beautiful and peaceful
We loved our stay at the beautiful and peaceful Cliff House! We had 9 days to explore the east side of the island. The Waipi’o Valley (from the overlook) was grand, the ocean at Laupahoehoe Point was wild, Akaka Falls, Rainbow falls, and (our favorite) Hawai’I Tropical Botanical Gardens were awesome, Hilo has some good food, and Punalu’u (Black Sand Beach) was invigoratingly windy with regal resting sea turtles. It was always special to come back to our Cliff House refuge. We loved the daily tropical showers, the sounds of birds, frogs, and the ocean at night, as well as the cool breeze. Sunrises and sunsets were very pretty. We gave ourselves plenty of relax time, just to read, watch the ocean, and enjoy a peaceful spot. Good Memories!
It was certainly a pleasure to host you both as you celebrated your 21st anniversary. It sounds like you got to see quite a lot of the island and went to many of our favorite places. There's so much to see and do here, that's why it's called the Big Island. lol Enjoy your wonderful memories you made and we hope that you get to come back again some time. Aloha and Mahalo
Cliff house spectacular
Our stay at the cliff house was simply spectacular. Highly recommended.
Mahalo nui loa for the wonderful recommendation. We love knowing that our guests enjoyed themselves here.
Hope you get to come back again sometime. Aloha and Mahalo
Perfect home base to explore the island
My wife and I really enjoyed our four days staying at the Cliff House. The location was excellent as it is close to the highway and Sandy's directions were flawless. The accommodations were perfect for my wife and me as the views from inside the house were exceptional. Outside, the views were even better as the ocean was spectacular and night star gazing was oh so fun. A typical day was spent touring the island but we always made it back in time to sit out with a drink in hand and watch the light fade and the stars appear one by one. Thanks for allowing us to spend some time in your vacation home.

We sure like how you spent the end of your day. Watching the stars appear one by one is kind of magical and amazing as they start to fill the sky. With no lights around, the darkness makes them even brighter. We will enjoy having you back anytime and the 'light' show will be waiting. Aloha and Mahalo
Very nice, neat place. Ocean is noisy, someone should tell waves they shouldn’t crash.
You are so funny! Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your perspective, the sounds of the waves change with the weather and tides. The waves are so mesmerizing to watch as they come and go. You both were awesome guests and super clean, mahalo nui loa for how you respected the home. We look forward to your return visit some day. Surf's up! Aloha and Mahalo
I reviewed some of our favorite local attractions on gogobot so you can check those out and you can see what other people are saying about them. Locally, I think the little town of Honomu, and Akaka falls are must sees (located approximately 2 miles from our house). If you want to do something adventurous try ziplining (we recommend Skyline Akaka Falls - also located in Honomu). Downtown Hilo is 13 miles away and has plenty of restaurants, grocery stores, museums, and other outdoor activities. The nearest airport is 15 miles away, also in Hilo.
