Overview

About the property

Oceanfront 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom

We are renting our Ohana (i.e. guesthouse). It is attached to our home, but doesn't have any shared walls. It is separated from our home by a breezeway and lanai. It has a private entrance and covered parking. The Ohana is approximately 1000 square feet which includes: 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, living/dining space and kitchenette, but the best part is the view!

The property is conveniently located with a private driveway and gate directly off Hawaii Belt Road (Highway 19). The home is surrounded by 3 acres of tropical flora with no other home in sight. Extremely private, yet easy to find and located 13 miles from historic downtown Hilo and 15 miles from the Hilo Airport.

About Sandy & Bob Nutt

We are originally from California, but have always had a love for Hawaii. I spent childhood vacations visiting my grandfather in Maui and we've been coming to the Big Island to visit my father since he retired here in 2000. My husband and I are both serving in the US Navy.

Sandy & Bob Nutt purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Sandy & Bob Nutt chose Hilo District

For us, it was all about the view. We love waking up to beautiful sunrises over the water and seeing waves crash along the rugged coastline. We hope you will come stay and fall in love with it like we have!

What makes this cottage unique

Our managers, Sandy & Bob are very attentive if you need anything during your stay.

A total dream come true!!

  • 5 of 5

This location is by far the best VRBO we have ever experienced!! We loved this private property. It is everything we expected and more! Very clean property with loads of special touches. It is private and away from all signs of humanity. The views are truly gorgeous! Watched the sunrise every morning from the private patio.

The night sky was just as wonderful. Photography buffs will LOVE this location! There is the view of the cliffs with the water crashing into the shore. The palm trees make a great addition to the sunrise photos. And the night sky offers up the Milky Way in its full glory!! No light pollution from this location!! There is even a small waterfall to capture digitally.

The home is very tastefully decorated. It is impeccably clean! It is all of the little touches that make it a remarkable location. We have stayed at many VRBO locations over the years. I can honestly say this one is my favorite. I could not believe they supplied sunscreen, mosquito spray (zero bites and no spray used ever!!) shampoo and conditioner, laundry soap, movies for the dvr, and two ukuleles!! I taught myself how to play while watching the sun come up!! Very thoughtfully equipped kitchen as well.

There is plenty to do a short distance away. Plenty of cute restaurants and shopping available in Hilo. The hour drive to the volcanoes is beautiful. The national park is spectacular. A little advice, watch the lava from the steam pot area to avoid the crazy people at Jaggar location. Plenty of great hiking areas at the park.

If we ever return to the Big Island, we will definitely stay here again! It was better than we imagined!!

Owner's Response: Mahalo nui loa for your lovely remarks. We want our guests to experience Hawaii in all it's natural splendor whether they are inside the cottage or outside with the breeze blowing. The birds were probably singing along and enjoying your ukulele music as well. Having it clean and supplied ensures that our guests don't need to get some of the essentials. We would love to see your photos and all the beauty that you have captured of this lovely island. We look forward to your return someday, it was a pleasure to meet the two of you. Aloha and Mahalo

Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

The Cliff House is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a spectacular view of the Hilo Coast. We could not get enough of the view. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets, a full moon, and very pretty sunrise. It was everything as advertised in the listing. If we ever return to the Hilo area, we will be sure to stay at the Cliff House!.

Owner's Response: We would be delighted to have you come back anytime. We are always in awe of the beauty the full moon makes as it reflects on the ocean. So glad you both got to see and experience this as photos just don't seem to be able to capture this amazing sight. Mahalo and Aloha

Amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

The cliff house is amazing with fantastic views. The gardens are immaculate and a lovely place to have breakfast and watch the sunrise. The house was very clean and exactly as it looks in the photos, just lovely. The instructions to get to the house are detailed and easy to follow, even with the nearest grocery stores. I would highly recommend and would come back in a heartbeat. We stayed one night in Kona but wish we had spent an extra night here instead. Thanks for letting us stay!

Owner's Response: It was such a pleasure to have you as our guests from 'Down Under'. Mahalo for all the lovely compliments and we're glad you enjoyed your stay. We do like to help our guests by letting them know where the local grocery stores as well as eateries and attractions are. Besides, tasting the local food is part of the fun of traveling. Please come back anytime. Aloha and Mahalo.

Loved it! Great location, amazing view, would definitely stay again!

  • 5 of 5

The Cliff House was fantastic, I was blown away with the beautiful view and property surrounding the house. It was close enough to Hilo but also far enough away to relax. I wasn't sure about having no air conditioning, after all I'm from Texas! But, we never felt uncomfortable at all. The house has all amenities you need and we loved that we had a cooler and snorkeling equipment available. The kitchen had a nice variety of pots and pans, as well as cooking utensils and a good assortment of seasonings. I would recommend this 110% to anyone looking to stay in or around Hilo, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

Owner's Response: Being a short distance away from Hilo does give you quieter surroundings where you can hear the birds singing and the surf on the rocks below. It is nice to nice that you don't have far to go to get to town though. We're glad you made good use of the snorkeling equipment as well as the cooler. It sounds like the making of a fun day ahead. We look forward to having you as our guests again some time. Aloha and Mahalo

I reviewed some of our favorite local attractions on gogobot so you can check those out and you can see what other people are saying about them. Locally, I think the little town of Honomu, and Akaka falls are must sees (located approximately 2 miles from our house). If you want to do something adventurous try ziplining (we recommend Skyline Akaka Falls - also located in Honomu). Downtown Hilo is 13 miles away and has plenty of restaurants, grocery stores, museums, and other outdoor activities. The nearest airport is 15 miles away, also in Hilo.
