We are renting our Ohana (i.e. guesthouse). The unit is attached to our home, but is very private and doesn't have any shared walls. It is separated from our home by a breezeway and large Lanai. It comes with it's own private entrance and covered parking. The Ohana is 1000 square feet which includes: 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, living/dining space and kitchenette. See photographs for interior details.
Our Ohana boasts an open floor plan with ocean views from the living and dining space, the kitchenette and the bedroom. It has bamboo and tile flooring throughout and granite countertops. The unit has the basics for preparing simple meals, including an outdoor gas grill. We provide free Wi-Fi and streaming Netflix for your enjoyment.
The property is conveniently located with a private driveway and gate directly off Hawaii Belt Road (Highway 19). The home is surrounded by 3 acres of tropical flora, including fruit trees, palm trees and fishpond with no other home in sight. Extremely private, yet easy to find and located 13 miles from historic downtown Hilo and 15 miles from the Hilo Airport.
Come visit and enjoy the view!
We are originally from California, but have always had a love for Hawaii. I spent childhood vacations visiting my grandfather in Maui and we've been coming to the Big Island to visit my father since he retired here in 2000. My husband and I are both serving in the US Navy.
Sandy & Bob Nutt purchased this bungalow in 2012
For us, it was all about the view. We love waking up to beautiful sunrises over the water and seeing waves crash along the rugged coastline. We hope you will come stay and fall in love with it like we have!
Our managers, Sandy & Bob are very attentive and live about a mile away if you need anything during your stay.
I wish we had booked our whole stay on the Big Island here! The view is unbeatable, it is LITERALLY on a cliff overlooking the ocean, the view in the morning was so beautiful and you could see it the great room and the bed room.
You feel as though you are completely isolated, you can't see any neighbors, you're surrounded by forest and the ocean. The fence and gate keep the insulated from the road traffic.
It seemed to be peak coqui frog when we were there, so that's really all we heard :) but the view made up for it.
The interior was comfy and spacious, and well stocked.
The property was relatively easy to find considering it was pouring rain when we arrived (perhaps the owners have replaced the gate lock since we were there, it was very tricky to open and close).
The Kolekole Cliff House is amazing. I wished we were there longer. It was a great location for us right near Honomu and Akaka Falls (get some jams in Mr Ed's Bakery while you are here).
Nothing is getter than having an amazing ocean view from your house, but also the bedroom. I love hearing the waves as I sleep! We definitely were able to do that here. I also love watching the sunrise over the ocean as well.
The house is nicely stocked. There are even shampoo and soaps in the bathroom if needed. The kitchen was also nicely stocked and we were able to make a nice fish dinner a few nights.
The property is also really beautiful with coconut palms, avocado tress, and more.
I great oasis with amazing views right at the top of the Kolekole Beach Park (definitely check it out while you are here too).
The hosts were very accommodating and quick to respond as well.
Just an amazing spot on the shore, and an easy home to live in for a couple of days. Other reviewers mentioned road noise. We had the fortune of hearing only the wonderful sounds of the ocean.?mahalo.
Sandy and Bob are a very kind and helpful couple with a stunning property. My husband and I were there on our honeymoon and the cliff house was the perfect place to stay. It had all the necessities and more such as the beautiful ocean view, large property and very private. Plus it's not too far from Hilo town and nice beaches! It certainly helped make our honeymoon special and memorable and we hope to stay there again in the future!
Thanks Bob and Sandy!

This was my second visit and stay at the Cliff House. What can I say...the private and secluded grounds, beautiful cliffside ocean views and warm, welcoming bungalow make this place my favorite "home away from home" on the big island! Sandy and Bob are awesome and easy to work with when booking The Cliff House and are extremely prompt when returning the deposit. I love this place so much that I almost don't want to give a review because I'd like to think it is the best kept secret so that it is always available each time I return. A special thank you to Sandy and Bob for your warm hospitality.
My new husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon. The house and grounds were immaculate. Except for groceries, we had everything we needed for home cooking. It was private, almost secluded and tranquil. The sound of the waves was soooo relaxing. We were lucky enough to be there during a couple of dry days and we took full advantage of stargazing at night. Spectacular! The view is so nice that it was even fun just sitting there watching the showers come in on the one rainy day we had. One of the main reasons we chose this house was that it made for easy access to the natural wonders this side of the island offers - Volanoes Nat'l Park, several waterfalls and a couple of botanical gardens. All are within a 40 minute drive. Better than driving a couple hours from the Kona side for day trips, trust me. We hope to get back soon - because we didn't stay long enough!
I reviewed some of our favorite local attractions on gogobot so you can check those out and you can see what other people are saying about them. Locally, I think Kolekole Beach Park, the little town of Honomu, and Akaka falls are must sees (and all located in or on the way to Honomu, 2 miles from our house). If you want to do something adventurous try ziplining (we recommend Skyline Akaka Falls - also located in Honomu). Downtown Hilo is 13 miles away and has just about everything you'll need in the way of restaurants, grocery stores, museums, and other outdoor activities. The nearest airport is 15 miles away, also in Hilo.
