About Gabe Ferrer
In 2002, Gabe and Marisol Ferrer came to Colorado to spend time with their new grandkids in Denver. They built this beautiful home to spend time with their fast growing family. In stark contrast to their native homes of Cuba and Puerto Rico, Gabe and Marisol quickly learned to drive in the snow, dress for the climate, and hike like they were from the mountains. Marisol, nearing retirement, was able to express herself through designing the layout, furnishings, and landscaping of the cabin you will soon enjoy. Now they share their time in Colorado, with their other grandchildren in Arkansas, and with their family in South Florida. For ease of communication with our foreign or domestic guests that wish to communicate in French or Spanish, Marisol speaks, in addition to English, French and Spanish. Gabe speaks English and Spanish.

Why Gabe Ferrer chose Idaho Springs
This property is less than an hour's drive from Denver, yet it is set at 10,000 feet above sea level. It is a peaceful location that invokes creativity and peace to all who stay there.
What makes this Cabin unique
This is a large home that can sleep eight very comfortably. It is set in a high alpine area. The many windows bring the mountains to you. If you like music, there are speakers on the outside deck, in the master bathroom, as well as in the great room. There are wild raspberries growing alongside the road which are fun to pick and eat when in their season. The lot adjacent and also below are also part of the property and are fun to explore.

Thanksgiving 2019, Nov 27- Dec 1
This is an absolutely beautiful cabin and the views are stunning.
We were caught in the Denver area snow storm during our stay. The wind gusts were very strong at this elevation, bringing down a few trees, and on Day 3 we lost power.
The housekeeper was quick to answer my calls regarding the power company update and I did eventually call the owner but he never returned my call.
Once we lost power, we quickly lost use of the pump and had no water. The wood fireplace could not be used because the insert is electric and to leave the fireplace door open caused the fireplace to smoke, so we were without power, water and heat. There were many lanterns and flashlights, but only one worked.
I think had we only been adults we might have stuck it out and waited for the power to come back on, but we had 2 little ones with us, so we did leave a day early.
The roads were plowed, although the snow plow company told us we could not park in the street, which had no effect on us because even with 4 wheel drive neither vehicle could make it up the drive, everyone is right, it is steep!
Overall, the cabin is beautiful, very artistically decorated, with lots of space. In fact, we put a queen air mattress up in the loft, which freed up space in the bunk room for 2 pak n play sleeping cribs. More than enough room for 5 adults and 2 little ones.
My only suggestion, regardless of the time of year you visit, take a few flashlights, so if the power goes out, at least you will be able to find your way around.
We go to a different cabin each Thanksgiving, so it is unlikely we will return to this one, but even with the problems we faced, it certainly was a wonderful stay!
Just like the pictures! Generous supplies made it easy to feel right at home. Snow on our last night was magical. Loved the location.
Comfortable, Gorgeous and Soothing
We felt right at home instantly upon walking in. The view through the tall windows are stunning and can stop you in your tracks. You immediately know this was worth the price of admission. You just kind of drop your luggage and walk straight out to the balcony to absorb that view of the mountains and forests. I was out there every morning with my cup of tea. And every night. The star gazing available can take your breath away!
Cabin is comfy cozy. Well-appointed with making people feel at home kept in mind. Decorated so neat! You just walk around looking at all the fun stuff on the walls and surfaces. Everything you need for cooking can be found in the kitchen. Extra blankets and pillows available. Good towels and such. Just kind of everything you could want is there. From playing cards to med kit, extra flashlights to binoculars. It is nice to know you don't have to pack the kitchen sink. It is already there.
Some things to bear in mind. 1) The only TV is on the top floor. So, if you have those that need late night viewing or have insomnia and have issues with stairs, you may want to consider this. 2) The two spare rooms are on the bottom floor and the master bedroom is on the middle floor. If you have little ones you want to keep an eye on or are not yet ready for stairs unsupervised or those that have trouble with stairs in general, keep this in mind. There are two entrances and exits on the bottom floor that kiddos could use, and you may not hear them use as you are on another floor. That being said, the full-size bed is comfy and springy, and those bunk beds are awesome! My kids loved them! The master bed is super comfortable and having a fireplace in the master is just epic!
3) The steepness of the driveway. The driveway is gravel and goes up a kind of strict angle. We did not make it up the first time. Luckily the awesome and super friendly caretaker was there and gave us a tip. Get a running start and do not hesitate at the top. Lol! That is what we did and had no problems after that. If others can do it, then so could we and we did it every day. The driveway could be an issue if it snows. It is probably impossible on ice even with a 4X4.
Still worth it. 100% worth it. This cabin is just relaxing and soothing to be in and around. We were able to find a Zen and peace there.
5 stars all the way. We are looking to see when we can come back and stay again. Because we actually really want to.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The cabin looked as beautiful as the pictures and the setting was amazing. Beautiful sunrises from the deck every morning with views of the surrounding mountains. There was everything you could possibly need provided, down to board games, binoculars, walking sticks, you name it. Our whole family enjoyed it very much, I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking to get away in the mountains of Colorado.
Thank you for your kind comments! It is our goal to have others enjoy this cabin as much as we have! So glad you had a good time, hope you can return some time.

A very nice cabin with amazing views
Loved our experience here. Cabin is beautifully designed and decorated with wood panels and large windows to enjoy the view. Loved the large deck and great room. Gabe was very accommodating in allowing us in early to dress for our nephews wedding. Highly recommend
We had such a great week at the cabin. Location was perfect, and you just can’t beat the views. Hiking St Mary’s glacier was one of our highlights, and it was so close. The other thing we’ll never forget is the moose that walked through the front yard on our first day. The house was very comfortable for our party of 6. The kids loved the bunk beds and the upstairs loft. It had every necessity you could think of. The owner was also great with corresponding. The only “concern” we had was the driveway... it is steep! Took us a few times to get up the first day with our minivan, but by the end of the week we definitely got the hang of it. Just can’t imagine having anything other than a 4 wheel drive vehicle if there was any amount of snow or ice. But dealing with the rough roads and driveway was more than worth it to get to this place! I would strongly recommend it for a great vacation!
St Mary's Glacier, the southernmost glacier in the United States is about 1 mile from the cabin.
It's a 3/4 mile hike which ends at the base of the glacier which empties into a lake. Beautiful area.
