I would highly recommend the Vagabond for your next get away. For the price of a nice hotel room you get your own personal houseboat. It was very clean and well appointed. The dock master, George, was great. I cannot wait to visit again.
Perfection in every way. Why stay in a hotel when you can stay on a boat!? Sea air, breezes, rocking motion, views!
Location is right on the river in Kittery ME with Portsmouth NH across the way. Very pictoresque. Walk over the bridge either way for lots of places to eat, shop, etc.
The Marina is small and homey. Access to the grills and picnic tables and bathroom and laundry facilities. Neighbors were so friendly and helpful.
The boat has everything as a hotel would with a gally kitchen. Clean, cozy, and comfortable. Hot water, AC, etc. The top enclosed back deck was a great spot to sit and relax and read a book. Unzip the windows and walah fresh air! The owners made sure everything was labeled and provided. A pleasure to deal with.
I truly appreciated and enjoyed my stay. Will be back again.
We live just 20 minutes away, but this was a true getaway. It is the best view of Portsmouth in town. We stayed on a night when our favorite band was playing at Prescott Park, so we were able to avoid parking downtown and walk right over the bridge to the concert. The location of the boat cannot be beat. The boat is like a mini apartment, with just the right touches of home. Views from the bow, stern, and a 360 view of Portsmouth and Kittery from the upper deck. George makes you feel like family, and the owners of the boat were so hospitable. It was a heat wave when we were there, but the air conditioning kept us cool. When the heat finally broke, we were able to open the windows and enjoy the estuary breeze. We did take out at Warrens and brought it back to eat on the marina deck picnic tables. It was like our own little restaurant. If we had more time, we would have eaten at Morrisons down the street, a favorite of ours. I wish I could live on this boat all summer!
My two friends and I enjoyed a two night stay on the Vagabond. We had a fabulous time even though the weather was mostly rainy. The boat has everything you need including a Keurig and coffee pods. The only thing I would recommend bringing is some plastic wrap if you plan to use some of your own food. It was plenty of space for the three of us. George, the dock master, was so friendly and helpful. One night we walked to nearby Warren's which has an amazing salad bar and excellent food. Don't
miss When Pigs Fly if you want to sample or buy some delicious breads. I would recommend the Vagabond to anyone who wants to relax with water ambiance. I would love to come back again.
At the end of our two weeks of travel we ended up on the Vagabound. It was something fun and different and gave us a different look at things than if we had been in a hotel. We had 4 adults in our party and the space and privacy were perfect. We sat on the top deck and watched the boat traffic. We saw a different side of the city watching the bridge raise for large boats, freighters go through, all the other boat dwellers were very friendly and helpful. The owner was extremely helpful and great to work with. I would stay here again and would highly recommend it to others. A fun few days!
My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed it very much. Our first time renting a houseboat. It was a fun adventure. The boat is docked in a lovely marina on Badger's Island, just across the water from Portsmouth, N.H. We were able to walk into Portsmouth, via the Portsmouth Memorial Bridge bridge just up the street. A couple of miles away were the Kittery Shopping Outlets. We had originally asked another couple to join us, but they couldn't. It's a good thing, 'cause even though it has two bedrooms with queen size beds and 1 1/2 baths, I feel privacy would have been an issue. I think it's perfect for a couple, a girls getaway and a family with teenagers. I say teenagers, 'cause I would have been very nervous if our young grandchildren had been with us. The weather was spectacular and George the Dock Master, along with his wife Dawn, were extremely helpful and friendly.
Enjoy the unique experience of living on a boat and take advantage of all that the Seacoast has to offer.
There are plenty of attractions just across the newly remodeled Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth, NH., including restaurants and village shops.
Prescott Park is just a 10 minute walk away and offers outdoor plays, bands and festivals as well as beautiful flower gardens.
Take a 5 minute drive on Route 1 North and you will be at the famous Kittery Outlet Malls where you can spend some time shopping or eat at Bob's Clam Hut which was featured on Food Networks Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Interested in doing a daytrip? Boston is an hour south, or the beautiful White Mountains of NH are an hour and a half to the north.
A nice drive up the coast of Maine would take you to the quaint coastal villages of York Beach, Ogunquit, Wells and Kennebunkport, which boast gorgeous beaches, shopping and delicious world class cuisine.
