Charming 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom with grassy yard and two comfortable porches
About Ashley Cassel
I live and work in Houston, TX and purchased this property on a random whim in the summer of 2013. It's been such a fun project and I've had a great time enjoying it with friends and family.
Ashley Cassel purchased this House in 2013
Why Ashley Cassel chose Galveston
When I walked into this house, it just felt good. There is something about the huge windows, high ceilings, and fresh colors that makes me (and my guests) relaxed and happy.

Perfect place for your get away home from home
Ashley’s house is not only clean and tidy but super adorable. Close to everything and safe neighborhood. We will definitely stay again when in town. Thanks for everything again Ashley.
Enjoyable Stay! Great Owner!
Ashley, the owner, is great! Her response time from the very first contact throughout our stay was fast and amazing. She's polite and easy to work with and very patient too!
The house is located on the periphery of the central historic neighborhood district of Galveston. If you want an upgraded nostalgic cottage-type home for your visit, this is the place! The house is central - about half way between the Strand and the Seawall - easy to get around town from this location. It's a hop, skip and jump from Shrimp and Stuff, one of the islands great seafood restaurants that tends to be less of a tourist spot and a good local gem. The house is safe with an alarm system, its clean, and all the furniture is very comfortable. I would say the online photos don't do the house justice -- it is very cutely decorated, just " beachy" enough but not crazily overdone. I found it to be more spacious than it appears in the online photos. The main living room, kitchen and bathroom are very comfortable. There is 1 bathroom, but it is truly spacious and easily accommodates multiple people in the home. The house is stocked with bath towels, beach towels, comfortable sheets, nice comfortable beds.... The bedroom with 2 double beds was great for the kids. House has a large decently equipped kitchen with a great deck off the back of the house for morning coffee or afternoon snacks! There is a washer and dryer complete with soap which was very useful to us with our kids in tow.
Ashley approved our puppy dog to come along and the yard was great. A good fence allowed us to keep her outside part of our stay. As well, the kitchen is very spacious with 2 ceiling fans, so when we were worried about our pup getting hot outside, we gated off the kitchen area and let her stay inside without roaming the entire house while we were out and about. Bring a baby gate and you can easily create a large cool space inside for your pup if you don't want to use the yard.
The house is located on O street, which is a one way street with moderate traffic. There is a large oak tree out front that you can park your car underneath and escape the summer heat -- this was fantastic. We never had any trouble parking in front of the house as the neighbors all park in front of their own homes and there is no overlap. There are steps to enter the house, just something to know if you have any trouble going up or down stairs.
Home is priced fairly, we loved our stay and we will be back!
Thanks for the thorough review Elizabeth! I'm so glad to hear you and your family enjoyed the house & had fun! Hope to have you stay again soon!!!
Great location and sleeping arrangements
We loved our stay in this home. With four queen beds, everyone slept well. It was close to so many attractions but away from the hustle and bustle of tourists. We enjoyed the space of a home and all the amenities including having a washer and dryer at our disposal. Thanks Ashley!
Escape from city living
Drove down from Houston to stay over the weekend for a little R&R. It was just what I was looking for. The two patios are perfect for coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. It was stocked with the things I needed - beach towels, koozies, coffee, and shower supplies. The backyard was quiet and relaxing and breezy. I'd recommend renting bikes just down the street on the seawall and riding down the seawall to stop for lunch.
Perfect House for a Girls Weekend
A group of us girls from Houston rented this house for Mardi Gras Galveston 2017 and had an absolute blast. I have stayed in several other VRBO properties before and this one was by far the most well stocked. We had everything we needed an more! We loved the porches and that we could bring my dog (even with the fees it was cheaper and better than boarding her).
The beds are comfortable, the decor is adorable, it was clean, spacious and charming!
We will be back again hopefully this summer!
It saddens me to write this when you knew how afraid I was of trying this for the first time. You obviously have not seen the property in awhile. I expected better for the price. Very cheaply decorated and none of the chairs were comfortable. There was no place to unpack in either room. Really ... no closet? Windows look like full of mold. I suffered with allergies even with medications. The stairs did pose a problem for our knee and back issues. I saw no shopping areas in walking distance and no decent views from any direction from your property. The noise from the street can be heard throughout the night.
I differently did not have a beach experience but I tried. Actually I was glad to come home.
Unfortunately after 3 years of owning this property, I guess it's inevitable that I'd receive a bad review.
Letha contacted me a few days before her stay and seemed to have a lot of anxiety about her trip and the automatic check in process. During this conversation she told me the only other beach vacation she'd been on was when she went to Hawaii, stayed in a water front condo and that she was hoping for a similar experience. She also told me that she was having concerns about the stairs into the house because her and her husband had bad knees. This property clearly wasn't the right fit for them (Galveston Island probably wasn't either) and I was concerned about her customer satisfaction from the get go. There is a HUGE walk in closet that Letha must not have discovered. As far as my house, I live in Houston go there quite frequently - this is my one and only VRBO listing and my personal vacation house. I LOVE this house, I love Galveston, and I love spending there. I put a lot of work into the upkeep and maintenance of this 85 year old property. I'm very sad to hear that she didn't enjoy her stay on the Island and I hope she chooses a hotel next time as I think that's a better fit for her.
