About Renee & David
David and I are originally from metro Detroit, but we now call Mendocino, California our home. As a couple, we enjoy gardening, hiking, cooking, discovering new music, and the company of good friends. David loves to surf and disk golf. I enjoy backpacking, reading, and tuning into nature. We both work with youth and families.
Renee & David purchased this Cottage in 1989
Why Renee & David chose Honor
My grandfather bought the property in 89, and we inherited the property from my father in 2011. We've been putting a lot of tlc into the space the last few years. Both David and I share warm memories of traveling to the Great Lakes as kids. It is our intention to make the cottage a warm and inviting place where others can explore the bounty of Northwestern Michigan.
What makes this Cottage unique
In addition to the dunes, the cottage is a terrific jumping off point to exploring the charm of the nearby towns of Beulah, Frankfort, Empire, and Glen Arbor. Traverse City is 30 minutes north where you can take a break from the beach and access movie theaters, fine dining, galleries, breweries, and shops.

My dog and I had an amazing time at the cottage. The location was perfect, the cottage was tidy and clean, and the view was outstanding. Will definitely be staying here again!
Great cabin getaway
This was a great experience! The cabin was clean, updated and had everything we needed. It was peaceful and the setting was great.
Great winter retreat
My hubby and I spent 6 nights and enjoyed the location and the cabin. It is very spacious for 2 people and nicely updated. The bed was comfy. We snow-shoed, cross country skied and hiked out on the lake and locally - the dogs had a blast. VERY QUIET. Lovely view. The kitchen had every thing we needed - perhaps the best stocked of all cabins we have rented. Interested in returning in the summer. Thanks for sharing your place, your TLC shows.
Quiet location, beautiful view!
This cottage was perfect for my husband, myself and our dog. It was spacious, clean, nicely decorated and furnished, and very comfortable. The yard and view of the lake are fantastic and we loved listening to the loons at night. We stayed in September and it was very quiet and peaceful. We have been to the Sleeping Bear dunes area many times and this cottage was in a great location for us to return to all of our favorite spots. The owners were very nice and responsive to any questions we had. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Updated house close to sleeping bear!
This was just the right size for our 3 small boys, my husband and I, and our pup. The lake was very quiet and calm and we enjoyed doing a bonfire at night. The boys enjoyed the giant backyard to run around in. The house is very tastefully updated and decorated and well stocked with everything we needed. The water did have a pretty distinct taste that Im sure we would have gotten used to after a few days but we ended up getting a case of water for the weekend. Peterson beach is about a mile from the house and was the perfect morning beach trip. We had the whole beach to ourselves and it allows dogs! We also did the Empire trail which was an easy 3 mile roundtrip hike with amazing views. We will be back as this place is very close to everything we wanted to do in sleeping bear! Tip: you need a national park pass to do anything in sleeping bear but you can buy one for $20 at the ranger station by the campground.
The property was perfect. The cottage was beautiful, well-furnished and just the right size.
The property surrounding the cabin was spacious and close to the lake...lots of wild life. We will visit again.
Northwest Michigan has world class kite surfing, or if disc golf is more your hobby, there are courses nearby.
