Overview

Sleeping Bear Dunes Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 BDRM, 1 Bath With Lake Views and 150 Feet of Private Shoreline Near SB Dunes

Relax at our recently remodeled family cottage near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The cottage is located on Little Platte Lake, ideal for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. We are located on a private bay, directly across from The Medenbrook Nature Preserve where you have unobstructed views of the tree line.

The cottage is located on a private road in a quiet community, but close enough to all that northwestern Michigan has to offer (M-22 & Saffron Road, Honor). Explore the beaches and hiking trails of the National Park, or take a trip up to Traverse City for shopping, restaurants, art, and music. The charming towns of Beulah, Empire, Frankfort, and Glen Arbor are within 10-20 minutes of the cottage.

If you enjoy fishing and boating, the Little Platte Lake boat launch is a few minutes out the drive on Saffron Road. You can also launch at nearby Platte Point to access Lake Michigan. Launch a kayak or stand up paddle board directly from our 100 feet of private shore line. We've added a small dock, which we hope to extend for the summer of 2016.

With 3 new beds and a queen sleeper sofa, there are a variety of sleeping options. If you like to cook, a gas range and charcoal barbecue are available for your use. You can also try your open fire cooking skills over a bonfire near the lake. The kitchen is well equipped with a coffee maker, tea kettle, toaster, and microwave.

If you want to unplug during your time away, we keep a variety of board games and books in the cupboards. The spacious yard is great for outdoor games.

Please note that we strive to use environmentally friendly cleaning products and encourage our guests to do the same in order to preserve our lakeside habitat.

-Dish soap, hand soap, body soap & shampoo, lotion

-Sponge, starter trash bag, and a roll of starter toilet paper

About Renee & David

David and I are originally from metro Detroit, but we now call Mendocino, California our home. As a couple, we enjoy gardening, hiking, cooking, discovering new music, and the company of good friends. David loves to surf and disk golf. I enjoy backpacking, reading, and tuning into nature. We both work with youth and families.

Renee & David purchased this cottage in 1989

Why Renee & David chose Sleeping Bear Dunes

We inherited the property from my father in 2011 (who inherited it from his father) and have made numerous updates. We've been putting a lot of tlc into the space the last few years. Both David and I share warm memories of traveling to the Great Lakes as kids. It is our intention to make the cottage a warm and inviting place where others can explore the bounty of Northwestern Michigan.

What makes this cottage unique

In addition to the dunes, the cottage is a terrific jumping off point to exploring the charm of the nearby towns of Beulah, Frankfort, Empire, and Glen Arbor. Traverse City is 30 minutes north where you can take a break from the beach and access movie theaters, fine dining, galleries, breweries, and shops.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I can't say enough about my experience at Renee's cabin. First of all, Renee was so easy to communicate with, she gave me so many recommendations of things to do in the area, and was so accommodating. Actually, after the first day, I realized that the two nights I had scheduled wasn't going to be enough to soak in all that the area had to offer or fullness of the relaxation that the cabin provided, so I ended up emailing her to see about staying an extra night. She responded quickly and graciously extended my reservation. Secondly, the cabin is so great. It's right on a small lake near Sleeping Bear Dunes. It's evident that the interior was recently renovated, it was exceptionally clean and so comfortable. And the stillness of the small area it's located in was so refreshing. If you're looking for a quiet place to unwind and get refreshed this is it.

Very Nice

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was very cute and well decorated. It had a large backyard and there were no properties in view across the lake so it seemed more remote. We visited before there were leaves on the trees, but it seemed like it would be very private when there is foliage. Overall very nice and the owner was very nice to work with, also.

Great Rental!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancée and I stayed at the cottage for two nights and had a great stay! Very clean, updated, and comfortable cottage. Really beautiful area and nice to look out on the lake. It's close enough to stores that it's not difficult to pick up supplies but far enough away that you have plenty of privacy and quiet. We'll most likely be back in the Summer and would highly recommend this rental!

Cozy Cottage- Perfect for Northern MI Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have stayed at David and Renee's cottage. Renee is wonderful to work with- she was prompt in responding to messages and setting up our stay at the cottage. The cottage itself is welcoming and cozy and the lake view didn't hurt either! The cottage is close to any of the surrounding attractions (Sleeping Bear Dunes, Downtown Traverse, Old Mission Peninsula, etc.), making it convenient to drive to our destinations.

beautiful house in an idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful 11-day vacation at this cottage, which felt like home. It was perfect - great kitchen, comfortable living room, nice bathroom with a stand-up shower, and 2 attractive bedrooms with good beds. I love how thoughtful the owners are in providing things like extra chairs, binoculars, even some seasonal vegetables on the table. The setting is so tranquil - the view out the generous windows is of a lovely lake, over which the sun rises. Often there are loons and other cool birds floating by. Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park are just a short bike ride away through the forest, over beautiful country roads. The house was very clean and the kitchen was great to cook in. The cottage is cozy and well-designed - good for a person staying alone as I was, small family groups, or close friends. Very convenient to the cute towns of Empire, Frankfort, Glen Arbor, and more, and to all the wonderful hiking, biking, swimming, and cross country skiing that Sleeping Bear has to offer.

Honeymoon getaway

  • 5 of 5

We came to this wonderful getaway for our honeymoon, it was everything we were expecting and more. Waking up and looking out the living room window is beautiful. Everything was clean and very tidy. Location was perfect for us since we went to Ludington, Frankfort, Empire, Sleeping Bear, Leland, Northport, Traverse city and Beulah and never felt like it took forever (maybe it was the beautiful road of M22). Our stay was wonderful and we would definitely stay again.
