Elk Meadow Cottage was recently chosen as one of VRBO's Top 10 Cool Places to Stay Warm! In fact, it was #2!!

In the middle of it all, yet away from it all... Elk Meadow Cottage is the best of both worlds. Our house is just 5 miles off of I-40 and bordered on 3 sides by the Kaibab National Forest, giving you privacy, peace, and quiet. Yet, it is also conveniently located just 20 minutes from Flagstaff and Williams/Polar Express, and just over an hour from the Grand Canyon and Sedona! There is so much to do and see in Northern Arizona and Elk Meadow Cottage is the perfect home base for your adventures.

Our Cottage is nicely furnished, has new, top quality linens, and is kept in immaculate condition. We recently added a relaxing hammock and a super fun zipline for our younger guests!

The master bedroom features a king bed and adjoining bath with jetted soaking tub. Upstairs are 3 more bedrooms plus a 2nd full bath. Kids love sleeping and playing in the inviting loft space.

Perfect location for your base camp for all the attractions and natural wonders that Northern Arizona has to offer. Access to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Slide Rock Park, Polar Express & North Pole Experience, Grand Canyon Railway, 5 area fishing lakes, and several golf courses.

Relax by the fireplace with a book or enjoy one of the many family friendly movies and games provided. BBQ and dine on the deck under the pines. Cool, fresh, pine scented mountain air in this wooded setting in the Kaibab Nat'l Forest at 7500 ft. The home is located in an area known for wildlife viewing, views of the San Francisco peaks, and access to miles and miles of hiking / biking / cross country skiing trails.

All the creature comforts you expect in a fine vacation home are here for you.

About Emily Locke

Hi :-) I grew up in Southern California, then lived in NYC for a few years (where I met my husband) before settling in Anthem, AZ and starting our family! My husband and I have lived in Anthem for 12 years and have four young children. The Flagstaff/Williams area is a perfect escape from the heat of the Valley during the summer, a gorgeous place to see the leaves changing in the Fall, and a wonderful place to experience a 'real winter' and give our kids a chance to sled and build snowmen!! :-)

Emily Locke purchased this house in 2013

Why Emily Locke chose Grand Canyon

This place is amazing! We fell in love the first time we saw it. The Parks area is the perfect location, halfway between Flagstaff and Williams. We love the feel of being in the forest rather than in a neighborhood. It really makes us feel like we are "getting away" :-)

What makes this house unique

One of my favorite things about the cottage is the 'Loft', which is a kid-sized play area above one of the upstairs bedrooms. It is such a unique and fun place!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Everything was great! I really can't think of anything about the house that we didn't like. We loved the wood burning stove, and that there were toys to keep our kids busy. The location was perfect, we loved how secluded it was.

Tranquil Escape

  • 5 of 5

We chose this cabin because it was located midpoint to Sedona & Grand Canyon. The cabin was very remote and that is exactly what we wanted. The disconnect from cities, traffic and noise was extremely relaxing. As a family with two boys (5 & 7), the place had all the amenities to keep them occupied inside & outside. They squealed with delight about the "secret" loft.

The place was very large, clean and well equipped. Make sure you have the alarm security code handy when you first enter the place. We arrived at night and phone/internet connections are practically non-existent. Luckily after a few minutes of scrounging around, I found the code to shut off the ear piercing alarm.

A great house to roam in!

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect sprawling house in the woods, with every comfort thought through. Our kids LOVED the attic, the see-saws and the zip-line, and honestly, would have preferred to stay in the house rather than going to the Grand Canyon! The kitchen is very well-stocked, and so is the movie collection and the board game collection. It would be a great place to stay for a family get-together! We ended up going to the Grand Canyon on 3 of the days we stayed there, but be aware that it takes about 1hr 20 minutes to get to GC, so if you are planning to use it as a base, factor in the driving time. Emily was a perfect host, very responsive and easy to deal with. Would definitely stay here again when we come back to AZ.

Great for a family

  • 4 of 5

This is a great place to gather family. Large living/kitchen/dining. Three generations. Some playing cards at the dining table while others cooking in kitchen and still others enjoying the wood stove. And yet everyone together. Great mix of activities. Grand Canyon one day, hiking out the back door the next. And gathered on the couch with popcorn for some movies in the evening. Loved the general store on Route 66 at the end of the road. Perfect "unique" addition to our stay. Convenient for the things we forgot and enjoyed breakfast there the last morning.

Wonderful cottage in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Emily has thought of everything to make guests comfortable and welcome. Great location for families to explore the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and the surrounding area. Kids of all ages will have a great time here. The limited WiFi is a blessing because it forces your teens to unplug. You really feel like you are coming home at the end of the day due to all of the care and attention Emily has put into the cottage. She was very gracious and responsive during our stay. I have booked many places through VRBO for my family's vacations, and this is one of the best places my family has stayed.

A welcoming home in an amazing setting!

  • 5 of 5

This property is amazing! Three generations of us vacationed here; 7 people with the youngest being 16 years old. There was plenty of space for sleeping, eating, and just relaxing. And the home was so welcoming! Books, games, movies, comfy pillows, a birdbook/binoculars/birdseed (really nice touch!), snowball makers, fireplace, a Keurig, PLENTY of cookware... you name it, this place has it. It really felt like we were visiting friends instead of renting. We saw a herd of elk and a coyote upslope, and enjoyed the birds at the feeder. If you love to cook, this kitchen will make you happy (everything I looked for, I found). We were an hour from the Grand Canyon and an hour from Sedona. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Truly Phenomenal Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (total 8) had an absolutely amazing stay! All the amenities, from the grill to the fire place to the comfortable bedrooms, had heartwarming touches that allowed us to make priceless memories that we can cherish forever. I would highly recommend this cottage for those looking for a great place within relatively short distance to Grand Canyon.
