Caprie is a small and quiet village with rural architectural features, located on the orographic left side of the Dora Riparia, composed of the hamlets of Novaretto, Celle, Campambiardo and Peroldrado. The story of Caprie has its roots in the most remote times. The 1942 pile-dwelling discovery in the Novaretto lake region (presumably from the Bronze Age) is noteworthy. After the probable first Ligurian settlements, the Celts arrived, then the Romans. Formerly called Caurum, then Chiavrie and finally Caprie. It is logical to think that this name derives from the abundance of flocks that grazed freely in the area, especially on the slopes of Mount Civrari. From the dialect 'cevra = goat' so called by analogy, as well as Mount Caprasio which dominates Caprie. On its territory passed the ancient road of the Gauls which supports the hypothesis of recognizing in Caprie the ancient Ocelum, remembered by Caesar in his De Bello Gallico.
