We just completed a full renovation. It's all new and improved (renovation completion Aug. 2013) but we've kept it's simple charm and original character. Go back in time and enjoy sculptured archways, glass door knobs, crown molding, built ins, granite and hardwood floors through out.
The cottage has several outdoor sitting areas. There is a cozy seating area out front... where you can sit and look out to a beautiful park-like setting. Additionally, there is a large paver patio and another out door space that is screened in. Relax on the rocking chairs, turn on the porch lamp and listen to the crickets.
The cottage has a well stocked kitchen. There is no need to leave the cottage for morning coffee. A coffee/ espresso maker has been provided for your pleasure. The eating area can sit 6 to 8 comfortably.
The family room has comfy seating. There is a sixty inch HDTV that provides Apple TV and all of your favorite cable channels.
The cottage is Wifi equipped with a printer/scanner.
A library is situated at the other end of the cottage that provides additional relaxation space. It's the perfect getaway to sit and read your favorite book and it overlooks a park-like setting. There is a full size sofa bed that can be used for additional sleeping.
Each bedroom has a queen sized bed, closet, 2 dressers and a TV. There is a full bathroom connected to one of the bedrooms and another full bathroom in the hallway adjacent to the other bedroom.
A laundry room is equipped with a washer and dryer, iron and ironing board.

My husband and I fell in love with Pinehurst because of it's outstanding golf but also for it's beauty, history and small town charm. We concluded that this would be a great place to retire so we bought a small cottage that was built in 1919 and renovated it. Everything is brand new. Except for some antique wood pieces. We'd like to share it's charm with you until it's time for us to retire.
Amy purchased this cottage in 2012
The location of the cottage is perfect if you like to be in walking distance to all that downtown Pinehurst has to offer.
A nice getaway experience in a lovely house in Pinehurst. Walking distance to the shopping district. Quiet and relaxing.
We feel very fortunate to have stayed at the Merrimac in late July! The close proximity to the village shops and restaurants was even better than expected. Very close driving proximity to all golf courses and to the resort locations where our friends stayed was also a very welcome convenience. All of the cottage's amenities and appliances were updated/upscale and user friendly. The layout allows for anyone to have their own space when desired, and is also well set up for entertaining and for together-time. Our stay was very relaxing and quiet, just as we wanted it. There were no noisy people going up and down hotel hallways at odd hours, no noisy neighbors waking early or coming back to their rooms late, and we were afforded the very peaceful and comfortable sleeping conditions we hoped for and needed to handle 9 straight days of summer golf (our son competed). The Merrimac far exceeded our expectations, and we look forward to returning!
My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Merrimac after a family event in Charlotte. The Merrimac was perfect for the R & R we needed. The home was extremely well maintained and spotlessly clean. The furnishings and decor were beautiful-very warm and inviting. The home is situated in a quiet neighborhood which is close enough for an easy walk into Pinehurst. Hurricane Matthew hit on the 2nd day we were there. We were happy to hunker down and read, and the house was perfect for that. We had a couple of questions during our stay and Amy responded extremely fast via email. The VRBO description was very accurate.
We had 3 great meals in the area: Ashten's in Southern Pines was our favorite. We also enjoyed Elliot's on Linden and the Carolina Inn. Reservations are recommended at Ashten's and Elliot's.
I highly recommend the Merrimac!
We were here for my Goddaughter's Wedding. It was the perfect place to relax between festivities. It was the best of places to sit and reflect upon the poignant beauty of life.
We look forward to returning many times in the future.
We are located in Old Town Pinehurst. The cottage is walking distance to all that downtown Pinehurst has to offer.
