Beautiful secluded cottage
We had a lovely stay in Penny's beautiful cottage. Plenty of room for 6 adults, 2 littles and 2 dogs. Wonderful garden, lots of lovely touches inside. We'll be back!
Family bank holiday
We had a fantastic stay at Elm Cottage. There was plenty of room for 2 families of 4. The children loved playing in the garden and going on the rocking horse. Penny was very friendly and helpful and left us some lovely goodies on our first evening. The location was great and close by to local shops and pubs. We would definitely stay again and recommend.
Delightful cottage, very comfortable
Hidden away from the main road, but easily accessible, this lovely property is a delight. With a large range cooler, the kitchen is well set up for cooking. The two sitting areas are comfortable with armchairs and settees. The three bedrooms are furnished attractively with very comfortable beds. Heating is more than adequate especially the bathroom which is like Bali. The pellet stove is very efficient and easy to manage. The stairs are not steep so anyone who has mobility difficulties can manage them as there is a good handrail. Waiting for knee surgery, I came down backwards very safely. The owners are most supportive and very welcoming. The kitchen and household basics are provided and clear instructions are sent by the owner before you arrive. I recommend this cottage if you wish to explore the River Orwell area.
The cottage was very comfortable with everything we needed. We found plenty to do: garden visits to Beth Chatto and Hyde Hall, to Sutton Hoo and Woodbridge, Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh, plus two lovely walks when I was pleased to see that the footpaths were well marked.
And thank you for the "welcome pack" which we consumed very quickly!
Great to hear you enjoyed your stay. There are so many things to do near us. We are very lucky to be surrounded by wonderful walks, historic sites and beautiful villages. Never enough time to do it all.
Just what we wanted- nice and clean and purposeful
Cottage, easy to find, ideally placed and just what we required for our stay. Everything was catered for and all worked to plan.
Made to feel welcome and encouraged to come back
Lovely quiet getaway
Property was really comfortable and had everything you need. Lovely welcome package of wine, juice and chocolate biscuits. Penny was great at communication and answered any questions really quickly. We loved the area, roads so quiet so easy to get all around the peninsula. Recommend The Butt and Oyster pub and also The Red Lion - don't be put off by the exterior, inside is contemporary with excellent service and food. The shop on the corner is well stocked with any last minute things. Visit The Suffolk Food Hall for a vast range of delicious fayre - a bit pricey, but it's quality stuff. We thoroughly enjoyed our few days away in Suffolk and would recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of life.
Elm Cottage lies at the heart of the beautiful and thriving village of Chelmondiston in the south east corner of Suffolk. The village has a butcher and general store, a post office, a newsagents and a pub. Ten minutes walk away is the hamlet of Pin Mill on the River Orwell estuary. At this famous picturesque spot there are boat yards, a sailing club, an art gallery and the Butt and Oyster Pub. This is Arthur Ransome and John Constable country and there are dozens of walks from the front door of Elm Cottage, with fabulous opportunities for bird watching, sailing and just relaxing. The County Town of Ipswich is five miles away, with its docks and waterfront , restaurants, dance centre, theatre and cinemas.
