Killin Barn Rental Photos and Description

Lovely Barn with private hot tub, loch frontage & fishing rights

Nestled into the countryside under the foot of the mighty Ben Lawers mountain and overlooking Loch Tay, the Barn is a luxuriously converted holiday cottage with private hot tub, located within a private 40 acre Highland estate with secluded forest walks, orchards, duck pond, loch frontage and fishing rights.

Sleeping six people in three double bedrooms (one king, one double and one twin), the property has very spacious living, dining and kitchen areas, ideal for family breaks. The Barn is luxuriously furnished and offers all the mod cons for the perfect break, with sensational views from the master bedroom and a roaring wood burning stove to keep our guests snug. The property also has a 45 inch flat screen TV, DVD, Hifi with ipod docking station and Xbox 360 for our guests to enjoy. The hot tub is there for guests to enjoy the calm and tranquility of the surroundings, all year round.

About Nina Deakin

We live in Scotland with our two young children and operate a holiday cottage business on the shores of Loch Tay in the Scottish Highlands and a ski chalet business in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

Our properties range in style, age and size - they range from renovated farm steadings to alpine chalets, but all have a great sense of homeliness, and beautiful views, as well as lots of little luxuries to help everyone unwind and enjoy their holidays, no matter how old or young they may be!

Nina Deakin purchased this barn in 2009

Why Nina Deakin chose Scotland

Loch Tay is a fantastic location for holidays and there is so much to do in the area, no matter the time of the year. The Barn at Craggantoul can be reached in just two hours from Glasgow or Edinburgh, but is still tucked away from the buzz of daily life. Whilst refurbishing the property from a former farm steading, we have tried to create a homely feel to the house - the log burning adds cosy feel, and one cannot help being impressed by the lovely views from the glass fronted dining area and hot tub over the surrounding meadows and Loch Tay, which make it a very special place.

What makes this barn unique

Loch Tay offers guests numerous opportunities for fishing (from our shores), climbing (we are located at the foot of the mighty Ben Lawers mountain), boating on the loch, visiting castles, distilleries, golf, and all just on our doorstep! The house itself offers a spacious, homely and peaceful retreat after all of these activities, to relax at the end of the day with a well deserved glass of wine in the garden or the bubbling hot tub.

A Luxury Barn

  • 4 of 5

Despite the fact that the UK weather this year was unusually and continually wet we enjoyed the Barn very much. The only thing that came as more of a disappointment was not being prepared by the fact that the trek down to the edge of the Loch was as tricky as it was. It is unmarked so it ws a guessing game as to which path to take and, partly because of the rain it was a bit slick and we were hesitating as to whether to proceed. We are not young and a bit fearful of taking a fall' of not being able to get back up to the Barn. There didi not appear to be any other places to go for long walks and enjoy the countryside without driving somewhere.

All that said, I would recommend it to anyone.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Barn. We are so sorry that the heavy rain made the walk through our forest difficult for you - as it is protected by it's SSSI status (special site of scientific interest), we are not allowed to put a hard path down and are obliged to use the natural track which winds through the forest. We will recommend that guests use firm footwear or welly boots from now on - so thank you for raising this! We also mow walkways through the meadows of the 40 acre estate to give guests the oportunity to walk elsewhere, not just down to the loch, including around the upper river and orchard, as well as to the Cup Marked rock which dates from the Bronze age. Just above the entrance to Craggantoul lies Ben Lawers, a munro mountain which also has a lovely walk to the summit. We are glad you had a lovely time and thanks for your review.

Our guests are kept warm and snug with a gas fired central heating system and a log burning stove, for which firewood is provided. The furnishings are soft and comfortable to relax into with a glass of wine at the end of the day and the bedrooms are light and bright. The Barn still has the original stone cladding and chimney which adds much character and charm to the property. Glass doors provide stunning views over the surrounding area. Wifi is provided in the property for emails and surfing. The private hot tub is located a few steps from the property and has gorgeous views of the surrounding area for our guests to enjoy. Cots, high chairs and toys are available for our younger visitors. We have recently installed solar panels to contribute to the well being of the environment.
