Chalet des Roues is a recently modernised and refurbished chalet with spacious accommodation uniquely set on 5 demi-levels. It is ideally situated just 5 minutes walk from the village centre.
The entrance hall leads to a large fully equipped kitchen with a table seating 4 people. There is also a large double bedroom on this level.
A small flight of stairs leads up to the living area featuring a large picture window opening on to the balcony which gives the room a light and airy feel. There is a dining area with a table seating 8 people and a relaxation area with sofa and chairs.
Upstairs from here are 2 twin rooms ideal for younger people with a shared shower and WC.
Downstairs from the hall is another double bedroom with en-suite shower and WC.
Another flight of stairs leads down to the large cellar area which features a big TV room with sofa and flat screen TV with British SKY TV Freeview. Skiing: The Portes du Soleil incorporates the resorts of Chatel, Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets, Saint Jean d'Aulpes, Montriond, Abondance, Le Chapelle d'Abondance in France and Morgins, Torgon, Champoussin, Les Crosets, and Champery in Switzerland. It has roughly 200 lifts serving 650 kilometres of piste, providing runs for all abilities with a height range of 950 - 2400 metres. The Portes du Soleil lift pass covers all of these resorts.
The resort of Chatel also provides its own ski area, covered by a local ski pass, with 45 lifts serving 49 individual pistes covering 83 kilometres from 1100 - 2200 metres. This year a new lift and piste will link the Super Chatel area with Linga making skiing from the village centre even more attractive.
There are plenty of ski hire shops and a free bus service taking you to whichever area you want to ski. There is a bus stop right outside the chalet.
Chatel is an 'all year round resort' and the Summer is equally as enjoyable and breathtaking as the winter with open meadows filled with alpine flowers and a host of activities to undertake and sites to see. Chatel is an established centre for mountain biking and bikes may be hired from many of the local 'ski' shops. The chalet however is not really equipped for serious mountain bikers who need to clean bikes and themselves every evening after a long muddy day on the mountain!
Chatel village: Chatel town square is 5 minutes walk from Chalet des Roues. This is a real advantage, especially during high season. You can either walk up the road, or for an even shorter walk take the path from the back of the chalet which emerges higher up the road leading to the village.
The village itself has a wide variety of small shops, many selling local produce and specialities. There is a street market on Wednesday mornings. The two supermarkets are ideal for those holidaying on a self-catered basis and have large selections of basic and the more exotic foods. There is also a large 'Intermarche' store a short drive or bus ride away.
The Haute-Savoie is well known for its cuisine and the twenty or so restaurants and bars in the local area cater for all tastes and budgets.
Chatel has ‘Famille Plus' status, a national tourism distinction awarded to French towns and villages for the hospitality and services they provide for families with children. There is a brand new swimming and hydro-therapy complex in the village ideal for families.

We have owned a property in Chatel since 1988 as it is a really wonderful resort both in winter and in summer. At first we had an apartment but in 2002 sold that and bought our chalet. The property needed modernising but had great potential which we realised in 2008 when we totally rebuilt the chalet and included a large extension both underneath and on the back!
The property is within a short walk of the village centre which is a huge benefit, particularly in high season when parking in the village is at a premium.
We are extremely proud of our chalet, and would live there full time if only we could!
This time we did not hire a car and I must say that with the excellent bus services, we have enjoyed it better without - especially in the morning with New snow on the road! Also different programmes are possible for different members of the party going in different directions.
Magic bus was a great service getting us here much sooner with a quick getaway from the airport, rather than going through all the car hire procedure. Reasonable price too €377 for the 8 of us. Most of all it's better for the driver (that's me, of course,)
I recommend you emphasise the attraction and flexibility of the FREE bus services -great selling point - I'll mention it in my TRIPADVISOR review.
Best wishes from all the party (ages 5 - 70)
This is the second time we were given the chance to stay in Chalet des Routes. The whole family couldn't wait to get there because of the nice chalet! It made our vacation perfect. The Chalet is really fantastic! It's clean, warm, cozy and very well taken care of. Great kitchen with everything you need. Very nice to have 3 bathrooms, the beds and bedrooms are very nice. The location is just perfect, not to far from the centre of Chatel, so its a very nice walk in the morning to get fresh croissants. How nice is it to sit on the balkony and enjoy the beautiful view.
The owner is very helpful, extremely friendly and and welcoming. He wants you to have a nice time in the Chalet, will go out of his way to make that happen.
I absolutely will recommend this property to a friend and actually to everybody.
The chalet was excellent for our party of 7 people,
On a morning the bus journey to the town made life easy however it could easliy be walked.
There were excellent facilities in the chalet for catering and plenty of space for our party of 7.
I would recommend this property for access to the slopes of Super Chatel, Linga & Pre la Joux
Just returned from a 3 week skiing holiday in Chatel, based in Chalet Des Roues and had a brilliant time! The chalet is excellent, clean, tidy and well equipped as well as being convenient for both the village and skiing - it was a real 'home from home', cosy, comfortable and very relaxing. The chalet layout is unusual, interesting and also functional, the bootroom entrance being the only one we used due to the large volumes of snow this season! With a 3 week stay the washing machine and tumble dryer are a boon! The heating works well, never ever felt cold and no shortage of hot water for our group after a full days skiing! The short walk up into the village sharpens the appetite (as if it were needed!) and there is a good selection of eating places, but we also made full use of the well equipped kitchen to prepare meals on occasion and had some great nights in.
Highly recommended and I shall be looking to return!
As a family group of 7 adults we found Chalet des Roues a brilliant place for a weeks skiing.
The Chalet is well positioned for access to the super Chatel gondola and although the free bus stopped right outside we preferred the 10min walk to warm up before skiing.
We wondered if the size of the Chalet would be sufficient for 7 adults - it's hard to see from the photos how all the rooms could fit - but way the property has been designed over several demi-levels there was more space than we expected and with 3 bathrooms it worked really well for us . The heated boot room and the games room were particularly useful our group.
We were very pleased that the local property manager John called to welcome us shortly after our arrival and offered some useful tips on where and when to ski.
The car parking space immediately opposite the Chalet was much appreciated as I can imagine car parking around busy times would otherwise be difficult.
We had a fantastic weeks skiing and the Chalet was a warm and welcoming home during a cold snowy Chrismas week.
We woud have no hesitation in recommending it.
The first step in the "Chalet des Roues" was welcomed by a wonderful smell of pine wood and a cosy homely feel. The lounge has a spectacular panoramic view of the valley and comfortable furniture, what more could you want?! We were two for the stay, the village shops (5 minute walk) and a fully equipped kitchen made every meal easy to prepare , not to mention all the nearby restaurants.
We had a great time there! Thank you!
Everything about “Chalet des Roues” is what you might expect from its Alpine Village location. Upon first entering the property, which incidentally was easy to find, I was struck by the wonderful panoramic view through the large lounge window. Comfortably nestled into one side of the green valley one can relax with ease, in sight of these views. We numbered eight for our short stay during August and were comfortably accommodated in a cosy yet roomy environment. The owner had done everything possible to ensure that our stay was a memorable one. I would not hesitate to go back for a longer “séjour” and would love to see the place in winter. As for the town, Chatel has a wonderful, traditional, post card village feeling about it, with charming artisanal shops and, of course, an excellent selection of cuisine. The town council do what they can to be truly involved in their geographical location and with the help of numerous volunteers had animated the terminus for the annual uphill cycling event from further down the valley. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, well done!!

Chatel is a charming, traditional alpine village. It is situated on the border between France and Switzerland at the junction of two valleys below the Pas de Morgins. Despite being well known as an international ski resort in the Portes du Soleil ski area, the village has retained much of its original charm and development has been sympathetically and tastefully carried out in traditional alpine style, mainly in wood and stone. It is a farming region and is well known for its local cheeses. It has a lot to offer the tourist and the local community go out of their way to make visitors feel most welcome. Chatel is an all year round resort. It has much to offer visitors throughout the year and so as well as skiing in the winter there is mountain biking, walking and hiking, horse riding, paragliding, tennis, golf, rafting, site seeing or just relaxing in the beautiful and peaceful mountain scenery. Chatel has a brand new swimming and hydro-therapy complex which opened in summer 2014.
