Reared south of Cleveland in Independence, Ohio, of ethnic Polish family: two brothers and a twin sister. Attended business school then evening college developing a professional career in business. Moved to Montreal acquiring a love of French culture and cuisine returning to States to begin a family and eventual teaching career. Created a bed and breakfast for many reasons particularly the desire to share my beautiful stone house and extend to many guests the unique hospitality experiences I loved during my adventures in North America and Europe..
Darcy Miller purchased this house in 1987
The location of The Stone House is reminiscent of an historical era combined with the Amish way of life which connects our past to the future and offers a unique experiences. The historic sandstone house is on a hill with rolling fields and pastures surrounded by wooded areas. It is a perfect place to recreate what I love most in life and createe memories for my guests with traditions both old and new..
Over the years the area has become a favorite destination because of it's wineries and ideal growing season near Lake Erie shores. It is the best of both worlds!
Stone architecture of historic Quebec and France made me love this unique post and beam Greek Revival sandstone home with deep 19' window wells; a foundation 2 feet thick; 'bluestone' sandstone indigenous of Ohio's Lake Erie region; chestnut floors and a history of ownership marked by the English gentlemen of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
Truly a blessing to share this with all those who come here.
I stayed at this lovely bed and breakfast on July 26-27, 2013. I was attending my Cardinal High School Class of '67 reunion and wanted to be close to the venue, which was just a few miles away. Since I was raised in the area, I was excited about my trip. Staying at the Old Stone House was icing on the cake. I really had no great expectations when I made the reservation, but on arriving at this beautiful home, I was really happy I made my weekend reservation there. I immediately felt "at home" when I met Darcy. What a great hostess! We sat and talked about the area, and Darcy gave me some information on people that I wanted to try to find from my childhood. Since I was traveling alone, Darcy and her friend even invited me to accompany them to a winery on Saturday evening, and we had a great time! The Old Stone House is a "must" whenever I stay in the area from now on!!!! My room was tastefully decorated, very neat and clean, and quiet (except for the occasional clip-clop of the buggies on the road). Breakfast was great, and I enjoyed talking with the other guests. You won't be sorry you stayed at the Old Stone House,
We have stayed at the Stone House on at least 4 occasions and it is a welcome change from the generic motel options which are NO where close to this destination....My husbands family has an annual reunion nearby and we are usually traveling with upper 80 year old family members. Darcy, the always accomodating owner, makes sure we are properly placed in the home for easy access for the elders. The use of the kitchen and family room are a big bonus as well! The rooms are very clean and have many nice touches.Great history in "Mespo"; check out the commons which is an easy walk from the house and if you like cemetary art this one is not to be missed!
